Omg yes. Her eyes made me melt, I had to avoid eye contact so my jaw wouldn't drop. Speaking of which, my jaw dropped several times during her performance last night. ESPECIALLY during Movie Screen because she looped her voice at the beginning like she does on the album and it was so intimate and enchanting, the entire audience was standing so still like in a catatonic state, I think everyone was floating outside of their minds when listening to her. I hope she tours near your city soon!
I've used this video to start people on their road to being desperately in love with her music. When I want to hear this song, I usually come find this recording. Full body goosebumps everytime. 11/10
This song is about a car wreck I believe, the lyrics are dark af All the parts of me that lived inside Are drowning in the sea of waking life They don't know their colours don't belong on the outside They don't know their colours don't belong Til they're spread across the open road Til they're spread across the asphalt on the open road Til they're streaming in the wind like cassette tape or jellyfish Long dark veins and records playing memories All the things we yell don't mean a thing When we're spinning out of darkened meadow wind When we're flying like we're Mary's angels through the shattered glass When we find that tall dark shadow waiting there with outstretched hands He has given me a dress of red and you a skin of gray We'll be twisting here for hours 'til the light will bring us day And we're spread across the open road And we're spread across the asphalt on the open road And we're streaming in the wind like cassette tape or jellyfish Long dark veins and records playing memories
I love when she messes up It brings a wonderful human quality to it. It already doesn't feel real so it brings you back for a moment to let you know Youre carried away..
@hkim927 Tuning is Db standard from what I can tell. Chords seem to be (relative to the Db standard tuning) Em and Gmaj for the first verse and Am and Cmaj for the second verse. There are some variations, though. If you look up "Halfsleeper cover" on RUclips, there is a guy that covers this and you can see him/hear him do the correct changes.
I listened to The Grime and the Glow. It had some good songs, but felt a little rough and unfinished. I love [Apokalypsis], one of this year's best. Having said that, 'Halfsleeper' might be her best song.
@ThisPoisonTree agreed, wholeheartedly. it's depressing people who portray themselves "music lovers" who look down upon people who maybe just haven't been lucky enough to be exposed to such great things as this. not that everyone would appreciate it if given the opportunity, but that doesn't mean they should be denied that chance in the first place. judge the music if you want, not the people who may or may not enjoy it.

@TheVizianGroup Hahaha nice. I like how you channel a vacuous typically shallow A&R guy. Love the way you spout the obvious formula-obsessed vanilla-flavored approach to 'muzak'. Also dig the feined conviction with which you vomit your 'opinion'. So damn cute.
It's hard to decipher the lyrics, I got everything, but I'm unsure on "Until they're streaming in the wind like cursed tape or jellyfish" is anyone else hearing that? that's all I could understand... xD Anyways, excellent song! I'm pretty stoked that I found this girl, she has some great music :)
According to other videos with her head, white eyes and this gold thing on her forhead.. I thought she is coptic.. because of the greek letters I read saw on one video.
@pooscooper I actually had a feeling you were going to say she was from here. Yeah, everyone moves out there and I don't blame them. More exposure down there.
Sounds real indie chicky. But like that darker kinda bjork thing, meets feist. Not the other route, which is that cutesier old timey jazz vocal tone with the exaggerated vibrato that SO MANY of them do. It's unfortunate how there's definitely talent here, you just wish it wasn't so stylized in that pseudo dark jazzy accented pronunciations of things that's becoming the "deep dark" alternative to the cutesy thing. All the great singers take influences yet are totally unique. Why so hard today?
Read somewhere it was inspired by her seeing some roadkill while driving at night. At least I think it was something along those lines. So it's not as horrible as it could be.
You are correct- it inspired her to write about a couple who were fighting and die at that moment in a car accident. At the time of impact they realize the shit they’ve been griping about was so minuscule in the grand scheme of it all
First thing i heard from her 4-5 years ago, and still the most powerfull! This must never be forgotten. Love you Chelsea
+anko85 This was my introduction some years back as well. Still so very potent.

How can 10 people dislike this? I mean, why would someone voluntarily dislike this? It's heavenly. It is pure heaven.
Maybe someone from hell then.
Been looking for this version for years!
She, and this song, is perfect.
I have had this on repeat for like 30 minutes. It's so good.
dark, beautiful, sad, lonely, beautiful. chelsea gives me goosebumps
So beautiful that I could cry...
I actually broke down to this song the other night...
the music is pretty good too :p
I thinks this is now my favourite song by Chelsea Wolfe. Very moving!
My favorite version of this song.
Stunning! I adore Chelsea’s work and the epic drums and guitars, still, it’s gorgeous just listening to nothing but Chelsea and the guitar. 🖤
So So beautiful! Bravo :) What gorgeous sounds.

I can only dream of writing a song this beautiful someday
I love her so much, she makes me feel so comfortable with myself . What a beautiful angel from a beautiful hell.
I can watch this over and over, beautiful.

All the parts of me that lived inside
Are drowning in the sea of waking life
They don't know their colours don't belong on the outside
They don't know their colours don't belong
Til they're spread across the open road
Til they're spread across the asphalt on the open road
Til they're streaming in the wind like cassette tape or jellyfish
Long dark veins and records playing memories
All the things we yell don't mean a thing
When we're spinning out of darkened meadow wind
When we're flying like we're Mary's angels through the shattered glass
When we find that tall dark shadow waiting there with outstretched hands
He has given me a dress of red and you a skin of gray
We'll be twisting here for hours 'til the light will bring us day
And we're spread across the open road
And we're spread across the asphalt on the open road
And we're streaming in the wind like cassette tape or jellyfish
Long dark veins and records playing memories
Ballard would be proud
greatest song ever written
This makes me miss someone every time I hear it. I hope she feels the same.
This is more than music
so beautiful. she needs to keep going... such a talent.
this lady is fucking aweeeesome. all her stuff is so hauntingly beautiful, and what a voice. so glad i stumbled across this one
I love when she messes up
It brings a wonderful human quality to it.
It already doesn't feel real so it brings you back for a moment to let you know Youre carried away..

@warmsparrow1 yes sir! - I think there are some parallels and she would be a brilliant addition (for a project or some new tracks maybe)
Wow
uggggggggggggh. it's beautiful.
This is the greatest video TerrorEyes has ever posted.
More like an Angel who has a dark side. I talked to her tonight after her show, she's really sweet and nice, made me feel comfortable talking to her.
Perfection
I Love Her
lovelovelovelovelove
This is the video that made me fall in love.
WOW!!!
I knew I loved her already... but wow.
I would love love to find the tabs to this song. Perfect song to sing to.
Beautiful!! So haunting and well done!! Love!!
I looked her up cause she's playing with WITTR.. Now I'm excited to see her (:
This song brings a strange comfort, rough.
This is great
это прекрасно.
Настолько, что плачу каждый раз.
Haunting.
i believe this song is halfsleeper. its also crushing. her music hurts me the same way certain elliott smith songs do
Where do I buy this... now!!?!?
Amazing song and performance. How about writing the title (Halfsleeper) in the video title though, huh?
Im in love
Man, this is amazing! Does anyone know the name of the song?
Halfsleeper
she's so pretty :o

Diaz has the best taste in music.
@Phabulouso haha, thank you! - it's hard to find a name here which isn't in use but still personal.. so i formulated a short statement :3
i think im in love
@TheDirrrtybird47 could be an audix..
@pooscooper She came to Sac? No one comes here D:
@mrbelmont2000 what makes you think she is an actual demon in human form?
what the name of this songg?
Incrível!!
Hey! Her voice sounds pretty good when its not reverbed to all hell.

It's "cassette tape" ;)
yeah, but she said it's about dying in a car accident with the person you love as well. Pretty morbid.
Why does she play shows with ceremony? I don't get it.
what song?
i fucking love her fuuuck
..and here I was.
Its called Halfsleeping
I bet a fire marshal would give her a ticket for that cluster fuck of electronics plugged in there.
According to other videos with her head, white eyes and this gold thing on her forhead.. I thought she is coptic.. because of the greek letters I read saw on one video.
It does get out of the minor scale during the chorus.
Is she egyptian?
How?
I could have seen her live, missed it...poop!
@winonaryder92 "Halfsleeper"
@danblaze83 Well said. Very well said.

@WaldoTheApache a bit overkill

Or something like that
