A similar incident happened with me too. I was along with 3 friends in the city of Esfahan. The taxi driver dropped us exactly on the roundabout next to 33 Bridge (See o Sey Pul), a popular tourist place. Unfortunately, right at that time a protest was going on and we didn’t realize the situation. The taxi driver didn’t had the change money and our friend entered the nearby market for change while we waited outside the taxi. We were carrying DSLR camera and phones. Suddenly 2 men in private clothes came and dragged us in a corner to investigate why were there. We were nearly getting in the wrong hands as they were trying to take us in and put a fake case on us. Luckily, we tried approaching the local police standing in the middle of the roundabout who intervened and got us out upon confirming that we are tourist. That one incident made me decide never to go back to Iran and never suggest the same to anyone else. Incident happened in August 2018.

I am unsure of Iranian laws but going through what you narrated it seems you were simply detained on suspicion of any wrongdoing but was not arrested ALHAMDULILLAH, and charged; it is good to learn that despite your harassment, which was avoidable and apparently uncalled for ,you were not sore with the Iranian authorities and more importantly with the Iranian people. Irani government must ensure prevention of such unwanted incidents. Foreigner tourists should be encouraged and respected if Irani wants to promote tourism. Stay blessed and safe. amen

Was very anxious to hear your police episode. Glad it all went well and I am sure during those moments you could have heard your heart beat like a jackhammer! Great you are back on the road Alhamdulillah. Your are indeed a true traveler. One unexpected incident does not make you change your opinion on the whole country. Thanks for sharing this insight with your YT family for benefit of other travellers.

glad to hear you made out safe. You have inspired me to visit Iran. Really a beautiful country with friendly people. You had a close call, stay safe and I know you will not do anything that is not permitted. Also appreciate your positive spirit despite this experience. Take care, all the best

I would like to say that if you go to our neighbor India, Your experience won't be that bad even we know that political situation between two countries is so bad.

. Iran is very CONTROLLED. So too are the Central Asian states.I mean the Azaan has been banned in Uzbekistan :-0. They have gone in the other direction to Iran where religion is used to control and scare people into saying " Yes sir whatever you say / jo hukm Huzoor !". India and Pak. are chaotic.South Asian Indian Sub cont. countries are where everyone just does what they want !

Your mistake was to say you have German citizenship. If you said you were Pakistani and came to visit the shrine, they would probably give you free food.

Thank God you came out unharmed. Iran is a police state. Even in 1978, all countries allow Visa on arrival if you are in transit. Police in Iran make us sit at airport for 2 days with 3 month old baby.

Germany embassy could have helped you, it does not matter if you are ex pakistani or anyone. I had twice this experience not exactly the same but for me both were a very difficult situation and embassy helped a lot. These type of laws are not only in Iran but in many countries KSA Singapore etc. One of my colleague was arrested in KSA for taking photos of some mosque. Any great vlog and keep it up.
