"I'll just play a couple of lines, Blink 182 songs 'cause I'm pretty sure that's what people wanna hear" Damn right!!
Just found out about Warmoths Custom Shop and I'm hooked!
I recommend Ernie ball super slinky strings, that's the ones he uses
You nailed the tone bro it’s spot on
Check my other video where I use the VT Bass pedal
In love with the color! thinking of a seafoam green though, thanks for the video. Started to checkout warmoth again.
i did a surf green and its just beautiful!
Sounds great!
Beautiful color and well done. Looks beautiful. For anyone else looking to have one made....Marks signature is the reverse quarter pounder pick ups. This one doesn’t have it. It will give your bass a punchier sound. Watch the video of mark tuning through his top 4 bases. He is also currently using the jaguar body style over the P bass but completely up to you.
Noted, but his original signature had the pickups in the normal position.
@@bassplyr13 your right. I was wrong. I forgot to come back and take back my comment. All good!! Beautiful bass!
Fairplay this sounds really good. Might have a go at building one myself
Thanks!
what a baby :D and this color, i love it
+Walli182
Thanks!
I got this bass custom made from somewhere near China way, as everything is good on it I wasn't happy with the colour so I am in need of a re-spray at some point.
rareelectricguitars.com ?
Hey hey! Back again looking at your bass! Question - top rout or rear rout? Is your knob/pot concentric with a tone as well?
+Dan Piper
I wired it using this diagram with a 250k pot support.fender.com/service_diagrams/bass_guitars/013-8300A_SISD.pdf
Top Rout
How did you get that tone it's awesome!!
Also you are one of the few people that plays feeling this right.
Austin Oneil Haha thanks man. Actually, the album recording is a lot more complicated. That's the live version Mark plays because it's simpler. You can hear the album version here: ruclips.net/video/moIonsZMFKE/видео.html
If you watch my video towards the end, I give you a rundown of the tone settings. If you want, I can let you know the settings on the Digitech unit. It's really just a lot of mids and high mids and a single coil pickup boost.
I know you kinda showed it at the end, but could you make a In depth tutorial in how you get that tone? :D
If you look down in the past comments, I have the settings listed for the gear
I'm very interested in building a lefty version of this, One thing I can't seem to figure out is the bridge rout. I saw you put an american fender string through on it( and from the comments you've changed it) but is the badass iii the same rout as the american fender? I just dont want to order it and it doesn't work out.
It’s ever so slightly different. It’s drilled for the badass iii and I actually had to drill out one or two of the string holes for the fender one to line up. My advice would be to choose one or the other and stick with that particular bridge.
Wow! Nice bass! Could I get the body with a contoured heel, to get to the higher frets?
Thanks! I'm pretty sure they offer that option.
I know you can get the seymour duncan pickups just about anywhere, but how did you go about getting it wired with just the volume knob?
www.manualslib.com/manual/269740/Fender-Mark-Hoppus-Jazz-Bass.html
ever thought about doing Marks new layout with the reversed pickups and moved up more?
I have indeed....I have too many guitars and basses now though! If anything, I'd purchase the new style pickguard with the reverse pickup routing, take it to my local luthier, and have him rout out the pickup cavity to accommodate both styles of pickups.
Well done bud...i would mount the P pickup not reversed but 'E' & 'A' sensor stays in original place & 'D' & 'G' sensor goes on opposite neck side...should measure 2.5" exact from end of neck to 'D' & 'G' sensor edge closest to neck...i have seen them mounted like yours but Mark has had his Seymour Duncan QP P pickup reverse mounted on his last few Jaguar bass's,10+ yrs...very neat colour yours... swapping the 'D' & 'G' sensor to the neck side of the bass produces a more balanced fuller bass tone...no jump from 'A' to 'D' string but still has that 'E' & 'A' string P pickup growl .....good job...
I know.
This looks awesome! Where can I get one now a days? Thanks in advance
Warmoth.com
Nice color and tone, also i have two questions. were the holes for the strap holders and pickgaurd already drilled or did u do it yourself?
I had to drill them all myself.
bassplyr13 alright, thanks for replying
Great build, but on the Fender Mark Hoppus basses, the pickup route is reversed (the "up part of the pickup is down, and the "down" part of the pickup is up).
UnsettlingSpaghetti On the 2011+ models, yes. The older models had the standard configuration.
I want to build this with a reverse headstock and different color. maybe a light yellow
Warmoth has a pretty sweet graffiti yellow you can get.
Did you order the body with the pickup cut & pickguard like that or did you cut it yourself?
If you listen in the video, the pickguard is made for a Mark Hoppus signature bass, and Warmoth routed the body to accommodate the pickup.
how was the contact with the warmoth, because this bass is very unique, and how much did you spend?
+Tiago Feijó
They were great. My CSR was Patrick Koenig. The body was $405 painted and an additional $45 for the custom pickup routing (not including shipping and tax).
Dude, sick sound!!. What is the configuration you usda with the Digitech rp250, DOD, Crate and Fender Frontman to get it!?
You can see the dod pedal is scooped at 5:35. The Crate had gain at about 3/4, active switch on, contor knob at 12 o'clock. Bass all the way, mids and highs were cut. The frontman had bass rolled off, mids and highs about halfway. I'll get you the digitech settings soon.
Thanks a lot!!!

Hey bro, where did you bought the pink body? Its amazing your bass i want one too!
aharon kilmister Warmoth.com. Thanks!
what are the measurements for the neck to the center of the pickups?
It's about 4 and 1/16"
Love this. What finish color from Warmoth is the body?
Thanks! It's neon pink, but I think they discontinued the neon colors. I'd suggest checking out Thalassa Custom Basses.
Any chance of the links to the body, pickguard and neck you used please?
andrew Edwards any fender neck will work. I recommend contacting warmoth via email or phone to place your order. They have great service and will walk you through it.
Hey could you give me the exact way you made this so I can make it, you would be a great help if you could
+Diego Torres
Contact customer service first so a salesperson can keep an eye out for your order. Go through the custom builder with a jazz bass body, select all the options you want, and be sure to select the p-bass pickup in the neck position. Be sure to let the salesperson know you want it custom routed. The measurement to center is roughly 4 1/16". There is a $40 upcharge to do this. Once you submit your order, let the salesperson know so he can relay the information to the guys in the shop.
Good luck!
+bassplyr13 thank you so much
If I order it with the standard split set will it fit the pick guard? I’m guessing not because you had to get it custom, but I guess I should still ask. Also, when I was trying to order the bass, I didn’t see any options for a conventional fender string through bridge, just a bunch of weird bridges that need special attention. What do I pick?
Warmoth's standard route will not fit this pickguard. Make sure to tell them you want the pickup routed 4 and 1/16 inches from center.
If you want the string-thru option, I recommend ordering a Badass III bridge if you can find one. I recently purchased one through ebay and the fit, tone, and sustain are much better.
bassplyr13 I have a fender high mass just lying around. If it is possible I’d like to use that and save some cash. Do you know how I could do that?
The Gotoh 201 option should accommodate a Fender bridge.
bassplyr13 does it cost extra to tell them about the pickup route since the pickguard is different? And how do I request them to do that because I don't see a comment section
It does cost extra. I'd email them first, and have a rep keep an eye out for your order. Let them know when you submit your build online, and your rep will tell the shop about the custom placement. You can call them if you'd feel more comfortable.
nice looking bass! what ferrules did you use?
+freedomnowmedical Thanks! Pretty sure they were the 3/8" gotoh nickel ones. I had to press them in with a soldering iron.
Dude how much did this cost? So I can start saving up. I've been looking everywhere for a pink mark hoppus bass and nothing
+MACCldrn It was about $450
Where can i buy this one?
I noticed the pickup are oriented "normally" instead of upside down. Is there a reason for that? I know Hoppus "flipped" the pickups on some models.
+bmxxxxxxxx His original model had the normal pickup configuration. See here: www.themusiczoo.com/product/3531/2002-Fender-Mark-Hoppus-Jazz-Bass-Shell-Pink/
Mark didn't start flipping the pickups until somewhat recently but back in 1999 through 2003 he was just using the normal configuration during the enema and toypj era.
What value pot did you use for the volume control?
Thirdgen83 CTS 250k
Damn what a beauty !!! I don't remember if I asked you but do you have the list of your build or what your ordered from Warmoth.
Thanks man! I don't think Warmoth does neon colors anymore, but I recommend checking out Thalassa Custom Basses. He does Hoppus Jaguars, too!
@@bassplyr13 thanks so much
Doesn’t he have the pickups flipped?
On his latest models, yes. His original sig had them in the traditional position.
I wish they still had this color :(
Robert Murray check out Thalassa Custom Basses on Facebook. I’m close to ordering another one.
What was the measurement for the route?
It was roughly 4" from the base of the neck joint to the center of the two pickups. This will likely vary depending on the neck you place in the body and where the pickguard touches the heel. I had to use a dremel to enlarge the pickup cavity, but it wasn't anything drastic.
I know it was forever ago but do you remember the measurement?
It’s about 4” from the base of the neck to center pickups.
No inverted pickups?
Not on this one. I may build a new one eventually through Thalassa Basses.
What wood did you choose from Warmoth?
Alder
How would I get this tone if on my amp I have DEPTH, TREBLE, MIDDLE, BASS
Couldn't tell you, buddy. I'd set everything flat and use an EQ pedal to boost your high mids.
@@bassplyr13 okay ill ask for one for Christmas, thanks for the help
Anonymous Electricity the Tech21 VT Bass DI Pedal is a good choice, too.
how much was this?
at least 2 dollars i think
What options do i pick to get this body? I try to edit it but warmoth won’t let me edit the controls...
I’d recommend using Thalassa Custom Basses over Warmoth at this point.
@@bassplyr13 isn’t warmoth owned by fender tho? i should be able to get something close
@@bassplyr13 oh wait they make direct replicas?
They are licensed by Fender. I don’t think they offer the neon paint anymore.
@@bassplyr13 yea they don’t. i checked out thalassa and i’m 100% going that way
Dude, I've thought about doing this exact thing! Where did you get the pickguard from?
Now you just need an octopus sticker
Dan Piper I ordered the pickguard from ebay. WDMusic sells them, too. I thought about the octopus sticker idea...I'd probably build another one with the reverse pickup configuration and slap it on there.
How many mm is your pick that you are using in the video?
+fouried96 Tortex Orange .60
+bassplyr13 thanks! what were your settings on your amp for low(bass), mid, high(treble)?
+fouried96 The Crate had gain at about 3/4, active switch on, contor knob at 12
o'clock. Bass all the way, mids and highs were cut. The frontman had
bass rolled off, mids and highs about halfway.

Is it expensive to get a custom built bass from walmorth?
It depends on what you consider expensive. The way the prices of American Fenders are going these days, it's definitely worth it to me to build your own custom instrument.
bassplyr13 Ok thanks for replying
you learn how expensive your tastes are xD
How did you get Warmoth to do the string thru bridge? Or what bridge route did you choose
Joe Prohaska it’s the badass iii route. I stopped doing the string thru option though. I have a badass iii mounted one there now and use the top load function.
bassplyr13 thank you, I am going make a Mark Hoppus Jaguar
Joe Prohaska sweet! Please share when it’s finished. I’d love to see it!
bassplyr13 it won’t be for a while
Joe Prohaska that’s ok. Just don’t forget about us
going to try and recreate this myself.... did you assemble the bass yourself?
I did. Just a little light sanding around the neck pocket and pickup rout was needed. You may want to get a dremel if you need to sand. If you go string-thru, I pushed the ferrules in with a hot soldering iron.
bassplyr13 right on man. i really have no experience in custom builds nor do i have the tools unfortunately. would be an awesome project though!
You can do it! Those items aren't a necessity. I'd probably go hardtail bridge if I did another one. String-thru doesn't make a damn bit of difference!
bassplyr13 awesome, thanks for the response! going to get in touch with the guys at warmoth and get the ball rolling a bit
bassplyr13 i'm guessing you mounted the bridge and everything yourself?
Man this is stunning! Would you ever consider selling it?
Not a chance. Warmoth doesn’t offer this color anymore.
@@bassplyr13 My sentiments exactly. LOL
Matous Mark had standard P bass pickups during 1999 - 2004 did you not know
Yeah that's not true at all. He used the quarter pound sp3 Seymour Duncan.
@@rebd00mer93 I know that what I meant was that the pickup positions were in the normal position that p bass pickups would normally be in except they were on a jazz bass body.
@@alexzemaitis1207 oh my bad. I thought you meant the actual make of the pickups. Ya that's totally correct. It amazes me how many people think he's always done the reverse pickup thing. That just recently started, mark always used to play with the pickups in the normal positions.
Those are called not Blink fans!
Jazz bass body??
NON augmented yes
How do you get that tone man

dude please send me the full spec list so i can make one of these
I’d recommend looking up Thalassa Custom Basses on Facebook or Google
@@bassplyr13 oh word, much appreciated response homie.
@@bassplyr13 Would it be about the same price through warmoth? that’s a lot more than i assumed
@@floppaturnt Mine was about $450. The good thing about Thalassa is he routes the bodies with a huge pickup cavity, so you can do the traditional or reverse pickup layout.
Pickups are backwards lol
I do want to build another one with the reverse pickups....this is more of a throwback to Mark's first model.
looks almost orange...
Great, but Mark has reverse P pickups not standard
On his original signature, they were in the standard configuration.
The earlier models of the mark hoppus signature basses had the standard pickup configuration before Mark makes the modifications on the reverse pickups which were his later days models from his brief time with +44 onwards to Blink’s reunion
Yeah if you’re a noob!
