- West Virginia is a state in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains that carries its fair share of stigmas; some well earned, others less so. As beautiful as the landscape is, and with no shortage of natural resources to explore and enjoy, it's also a state that has seen a steady decline in population over the years.
There is, however, one county bucking that trend: Tucker County, WV. Davis is a very small town in the middle of Tucker County with a well-earned sense of optimism that permeates throughout the region, and mountain bikes have played a rather large role in that.
Maxxis athlete Brice Shirbach heads to the heart of West Virginia's highlands to get a taste of these good vibes for himself, and to sample some of the less-than-purpose-built glory that awaits him in the forests surrounding town.
Riders: Brice Shirbach, Jason Cyr, Susan Haywood, and Brian Sarfino
One of my favorite get away places
Thank you Maxxis Tires and Brice for the opportunity to be a part of the Intersections series. We love the content and edit, super creative!
Thanks! We're stoked to be a part of it!
Lots of great trail memories of Davis. Plantation Trail, Dolly Sods, Blackbird Knob. Haven’t been there in about 20 years, can’t imagine they change much.
Great video of a beautiful place many of us love and love to ride. WV's Interscholastic Cycling League will be near Davis next weekend for a race at Canaan Valley Resort with about 200 middle and high school athletes competing there.
We are excited about the positive movement for mountain biking in Tucker County.
I would not be the person I am today without Davis WV.
Beautiful sentiment
Amazing
Thank you! Really great people there!
Awesome! Davis (Moon) Rocks!
Such a unique and beautiful spot!
Great work!
Thanks pal!
Just fantastic!
Will those tires go up the bank at the highway 93 river crossing?
Shame we didn’t get to see nate lay down some lines
True story: he forgot to put his cell phone on silence during our interviews. Great kid, excited to get back and shred with him sometime!
I live in Ohio but my soul resides in Davis.
Its really cool to see people I've know my whole life represented here
At 12:00 "Spend some time in these woods; make sure that you do that on your bicycle, and your soul will thank you". I would say that being on your bike is just one way to get that spiritual ("soul') feeling; in other words, speaking only for myself (and realizing I'll be criticized for saying this), I don't need to "make sure" I'm on my bike to experience transcendence, thank God. As much as I love to ride, I find that when I'm riding around Davis I'm so focused on the trail I don't get much of a chance to think deeper thoughts (I'm mentally challenged!). My soul thanks me much more when I'm walking, trail running, or XC skiing. I see more, hear more, smell more, and think more deeply about life, and thus get a little deeper into the spirit, man.
Was this part of the blackwater 100 course way back then?
We have been told that some of the trails do cross paths with the old Blackwater 100 course.
Part of it, yes. If you search RUclips you can find footage of the 100 crossing the Moon Rocks.
woohoo isabelle
hahaha she killed it
Please stop telling people to come here. Ki ind of joking.
