In this episode, I begin from the Sulphur Spring Campground at Byng Island Conservation Area and paddle downstream to the Port Maitland lighthouse on Lake Erie. My total paddling distance was 11.7 km. The only bridge I paddled under today was Rainham Rd. I before reaching the mouth of the river, I took a short detour to visit the old Port Maitland Lock. I spent the entire day in the single-tier municipality of Haldimand County.

The canoe is an Old Town Penobscot 16', made of Royalex, which I rented from Element Canoes in Hamilton: www.elementcan... I filmed this video using a Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone. The drone shots were filmed using a DJI Mine SE. The GPS I used for the trip is a Garmin eTrex 30.

Another great trip to follow. While around where I grew up, I knew little about these communities so this was very interesting.
Look forward to the next adventure!

The cup survived the journey back to Toronto and I had several sprouts come up in the following weeks! I successfully transplanted 4 of them to their own pots and they've been growing next to my window ever since. While I initially thought they were willow trees, the leaves now look a lot more like Cottonwood.

Awesome trip! Just realized what made this series feel different than others were the aerial drone shots! (I assume that’s what you used for that). Im looking forward to all the new ways you can start capturing future trips like this!

I paddle the Grand river on any navigable day I can, but limited to sections between Elmira to Glen Morris. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing sections I'm familiar with, but also sections I've not yet been. This series had such an unintentional humour and good feel to it, watching the disparity in commercial traffic between downtown Paris (Brant) to downtown Brantford, for instance. Or the visit to the bingo hall for the anemic looking hotdog, going from that scene to, "Well having never spent any time inside a bingo hall before, I found that experience really interesting." I can't even tell you why, but I was busting a gut. Anyhow, you've given me a glimpse of all the sections I've never been and would like to go, thanks for that.

Thanks CJ for another great video series of an amazing adventure. What I don't get is how you can ride over water for 8 days and never jump in for a swim like you normally do on the bicycle tours. Ha .. thanks again for sharing. Best part was the French speaking raccoon who stole your bread

Funny you should mention the lack of swimming! My plan had actually been to go for a swim in Lake Erie at Port Maitland to mark the completion of my trip on the final day. However, when I arrived there and scoped out the beach I found that it was very unappealing for swimming. The first 3 meters of water was very thick with seaweed and other debris, so I decided against it.
