You have a level of maturity far beyond your age. I think that these relations that you are experiencing and realizing would have occurred to you whether you were an exchange student or not. You quite simply are an open-minded and very self aware person. Americans span the entire spectrum, from open minded and tolerant to biased and prejudiced. But I think that most of us will ultimately take to position that allows for individuals to pursue their right to freedom and personal happiness. Remember this is a big, big country and no single opinion on any issue applies to everyone. We very often disagree with our government policies, on both domestic and foreign issues. Everyone is allowed their opinion. I like that and as long as we treat others with respect and not do them any harm we are good global citizens. Remember though that sometimes it is necessary to take a stand against tyranny.

Sometimes a way of doing something is not better or worse. Right or wrong. Sometimes it is just different.
Yes! I never consider my culture better, I just consider the differences and what they imply :)
