Back in the day I did the Aravis (easy) with a couple of American's, and then we raced up the Colombiere and I won. Nowadays I'm a one col a day, helps you work rest and play kind of chap and I like to go hiking/swimming as well.
Your channel is motivating me. I am post injury recovery and pushing slow. I am older now so the recovery needs to be slow. Watching you grow in strength and endurance had been inspiring. Thanks
Nice one Katie my friend was there with the Skoda lads and loved it. I will share your video with him as I’m sure he’s gonna want to relive this ride 😃👍
Ah! Miss this event sooo much- what a weekend! Great fun riding with you Katie! It's only 10 months until next time! Not that we're counting down or anything! :)
4694m elevation gain!? That's impressive. Well done. In Australia that heat is normal in summer, but those metres of climbing are hard to get here unless you do repeats. Awesome ride.
Thumbs up from me Katie Glad you are having a great time and sharing it here . I have been trying to think of different words to describe the views just have to go for Awesome , incredible, amazing, fantastic, etc Thanks !!
Ahh sunny days! Loved the guy with his hose pipe cooling everyone down! Not many smiles on those climbs from the other riders! Looks hard work, well done!! :)
Very nice video, it gave us spectators a rough view how it look like from a bike seat. Well done to all of you (especial my bro) you are all heroes in my eyes. And wow girl you can ride ;o)
After the race was over what did you do? I mean you cycled back to the hotel for others XX Km? I know it sounds like a silly question but I'm curious how these things work. Anyway, what an amazing experience !
Chapeau Katie Awesome day not my hardest etape we rode to the start and back from finish as we stayed in Thones sadly 3 people passed away we found out later
Hi Katie, another excellent video! Understanding that you were given the place by a sponsor, do you know how much a place costs to enter l’Etape? I’m super keen to enter next year and just want to work out coatings etc for it.
Hi Tony. Happy to get you sorted for 2019 Etape du Tour. Ping me an email at m.tuach@allthingsride.com and we can get entry & costings information over to you next year.
Ahhh well our hotel was literally few kms from the end of the race. But my friend Darius had to ride the 30km back to Annecy! It was all downhill though :)
Hey Katie, enjoying your videos since I found your channel a few days ago. Out of interest, does everyone stop at the top of every climb, or do people ride it all as if it were the TDF? I’d love to do this one day!
Thanks Jack, glad you're enjoying the vids and glad you're part of the Kooky family :) Loads of people stopped at the top but I know a lot of others also carried on as fast as they could. But it's whatever works for you! :)
Awesome video. You really rocked l'etape. Such wonderful scenary. You have inspired me to try and ride next years event. Can we see your stats for the ride. Congratulations and well done.
Yes James do it!! I would love to go back and do it again. The beauty of it is that the stage changes every year so it never gets boring. Yep my Strava ride is here: www.strava.com/activities/1689778418
Wooo! I may not have needed my base layer for this one.. What a ride - great average speed on your Strava - I reckon you were going full Kookaburra on some of them climbs :) Hope Frank has stopped spamming you now.. ;p
Haha yeah think you could just have about lost the base layer..... haha. I think it was the descents that brought that back up, clocked 75kph!!!! Glad I didn't see that until afterwards 😝
Got that wrong, bib 3463... 4865 was my finish place... Yeah did 2015 and 2016. Every one of them was amazing! I live in Geneva. Makes it easy logistically, and for training too. I enjoy your videos very much. Keep it up!
Sorry if this is a silly question, but can anyone ride the stages and if so how does that work exactly? Is it after the peloton goes? I'm super curious!
Hiya Jordan, I had the exact same question. We ride it before the Tour goes through. We rode Stage 10 which the pros do next week 😊 Are you thinking of doing it next year?
So amazing!! Looks beautiful!! All those people walking up the hill though. You would think in 2018 that people would get proper gearing to reflect their climbing ability.
Nicole, of course gearing is important and most people probably had the correct gearing. However, riding for 9hrs (my on bike time) in 30c is a tough proposition especially if you get your fuelling wrong. People were falling off and throwing up! '000's didn't even finish and the slowest official time was 13 1/4 hrs! Chapeau to everyone who completed the ride.
You do get used to the heat. Toulouse used to be about 34C many days in summer: the one day I hesitated on it was 38C & a small voice in my head was saying "That's hotter than my body; how do I get rid of heat?"
A 32 big gear on the back and 34 on the front, then drop to 28 and stand on the pedals now and again did the job for me, but I was also surprised how many walked up
Yeah, I won a second place, but my friend couldn't come, so i rode it alone. I didn't got information/invitation about possibility to ride with other people from ATR/winner contest/you, i was feeling, if I don't paid the full pack (hotel/transfer...) I'm not part of the group. Well at least I could come and train in the mountain for my next transcontinental race, the brutal way.
Hi Stephane - I think Al has contacted you already about the event and the emails going straight to your spam. Let me know if we can help out with any future events. Glad you enjoyed the Etape. Muz, All Things Ride

It was epic!! Beautiful video 😍 can't wait to ride with you again :)))
Your channel is motivating me. I am post injury recovery and pushing slow. I am older now so the recovery needs to be slow. Watching you grow in strength and endurance had been inspiring. Thanks
Wishing you a speedy recovery! :)
I am well on my way. Thanks for the motivation.
Beautiful and challenging ride! So inspirational and lovely seeing the winners too!
4694m elevation gain!? That's impressive. Well done. In Australia that heat is normal in summer, but those metres of climbing are hard to get here unless you do repeats. Awesome ride.
I think it was just under 4000m to be fair. I know I don't know how you cope with the heat!! My English blood and skin just can't take it haha.
Thumbs up from me Katie Glad you are having a great time and sharing it here . I have been trying to think of different words to describe the views just have to go for Awesome , incredible, amazing, fantastic, etc Thanks !!
Thanks Barry.... I combine them all into one phrase... THE VIEWS!! haha
Ahh sunny days! Loved the guy with his hose pipe cooling everyone down! Not many smiles on those climbs from the other riders! Looks hard work, well done!! :)
Impessive ride and indeed beautiful scenery! And good luck on that exam to Miriam!
The Berlinickerin thank you :D
Great to see the entry tickets went to people who took full advantage 👍
Great challenge. you inspire many people. I hope this experience in L'etape has been wonderful.
Greetings from Brazil.
I did the Marmotte and temperature wasn't so hot except in bottom of the Alpe d'Huez climb, good job to you completing l'étape !
Well done Katie...Love watching you getting up those climbs #likeaboss ☺💪
Loved the post. I think you just gave me one more thing to add to my bucket list. Thanks Katie :)
Surprised to see so many walkers.....conditions must have been brutal....Well done Katie.....
You're are awesome Katie ,you so amazing and beautiful scenery
Very nice video, it gave us spectators a rough view how it look like from a bike seat. Well done to all of you (especial my bro) you are all heroes in my eyes. And wow girl you can ride ;o)
Thanks so much Maria! And well done to your brother for doing it too. It was so hot! Kudos to everyone who gave it a go x
Those climbs are just missing some fresh character-building northern British weather. Well done.
After the race was over what did you do? I mean you cycled back to the hotel for others XX Km? I know it sounds like a silly question but I'm curious how these things work. Anyway, what an amazing experience !
Hey Lukanyan - happy to chat through how arrangements worked at Etape. Drop me a line - m.tuach@allthingsride.com
Cracking ride. We did the Marmotte the same time as you were doing the Etape Du Tour.
Wow well done for doing that beast. So hot wasn't it. Did Galibier cool you down?
Katie Kookaburra it was 38 degrees C at the bottom of Telegraphe until the summit of Galibier. Drank 8 litres all day.
Chapeau Katie Awesome day not my hardest etape we rode to the start and back from finish as we stayed in Thones sadly 3 people passed away we found out later
Awesome performance Katie, you made it look easy. How long did it take and what was the gravel section like ?
Well done Katie, very inspirational.
Hi Katie, another excellent video! Understanding that you were given the place by a sponsor, do you know how much a place costs to enter l’Etape? I’m super keen to enter next year and just want to work out coatings etc for it.
120 EUR to enter. Be quick when signup starts. Usually a few days after official tour itinerary announcement! I did it. It was epic!
Hi Tony. Happy to get you sorted for 2019 Etape du Tour. Ping me an email at m.tuach@allthingsride.com and we can get entry & costings information over to you next year.
Good job and nice video! Thanks for sharing this.
Congratulation! :-) Just one question. If participant finished in Le Grand Bornand, was there provided any transport back to Annecy ?
Ahhh well our hotel was literally few kms from the end of the race. But my friend Darius had to ride the 30km back to Annecy! It was all downhill though :)
Awesome just Awesome Katie excellent ride
That looks like that’s a lot of fun and a lot of Hardwork good job amazing ride
Thank you x
Bravo. It goes without saying.
WOW. Congratulations Katie on having such a great ride. You looked gorgeous BTW. Once again congratulations.

Katie Kookaburra Crikey! 'Our' little bike must've thought it was gonna explode.. Sad that our front mech repair didn't hold up..
Hi :) In which country did the race take place? Maybe you know how the mountains are called? Very beautiful places:)
it's in France, Around the city of ANNECY, it's mainly in the "Massif des Aravis" .
she put the link of the map : www.strava.com/activities/1689778418
Thanks for the info:)

Amazing effort. Well done!
Bucket list!!! But it's a loooong way from Australia :-(
1:50 Peter Sagan walks past.
Nice job!! I was there too and had an epic day. Bib 4865. Rock on!
Ahhhh 4865!!! You would have been right up the front then. Such a great ride out wasn't it. Have you done it before?
Got that wrong, bib 3463... 4865 was my finish place... Yeah did 2015 and 2016. Every one of them was amazing! I live in Geneva. Makes it easy logistically, and for training too. I enjoy your videos very much. Keep it up!

It was unbelievably hot! I'm used to loooong days in the saddle and I had to stop in the shade for a while. Well done to everyone had a bash!
You do get used to the heat. Toulouse used to be about 34C many days in summer: the one day I hesitated on it was 38C & a small voice in my head was saying "That's hotter than my body; how do I get rid of heat?"
Granny ring for the win!
A 32 big gear on the back and 34 on the front, then drop to 28 and stand on the pedals now and again did the job for me, but I was also surprised how many walked up

Well done , enjoy your hair day ✅
"yeah, but it's not Hard Knot" :-) :-) [thumbs up]
Haha I always think that on steep climbs now ha, Hardknott is a BEAST!
I am so glad that i have not won a start place. Heat ist for my body what Boris Johnson is for diplomacy ;-) But nice video :-)
I won a place from all things ride too ; but i was alone in sas5 :(
You were alone where? Ahhh you should have come and ridden with us! :)
Yeah, I won a second place, but my friend couldn't come, so i rode it alone. I didn't got information/invitation about possibility to ride with other people from ATR/winner contest/you, i was feeling, if I don't paid the full pack (hotel/transfer...) Hi Stephane - I think Al has contacted you already about the event and the emails going straight to your spam. Let me know if we can help out with any future events. Glad you enjoyed the Etape. Muz, All Things Ride
