Can shoot 223, 45, 40, and 9mm casings off a target at 50 yards. Both the 980s and 10/22 are great guns. Can imagine the 60 is a blast to shoot as well.

Got my 60 in 1980 at K Mart for $49.95. Over the years I replaced the cheap Tasco 4x scope that came with the rifle with a Simmons 3x9. Mine has the longer barrel and magazine tube so it holds 18 rounds. It has the cool Squirrel embossed on the stock. Still shoots great after all these years.
I recently got the 1978 Diamond Centennial Model 6060 Marlin, just a varietal of the Model 60. And considering squirrels, it is one of the best out there for the practical hunter! Mine even has the squirrel stock! Ha ha. And these guns love CCI mini mag LR! Gun stays cleaner, less fouling and better accuracy. Got to love it and thanks for your video!
I own a Marlin Model 60 & a Ruger 10/22 & I prefer the Ruger 10/22.I own several other .22 rifles but when I go hunting small game my go to is the Ruger.Just my personal preference.
I have a Glenfield Model 60 1978 . I bought it in 1992. Need to replace throat, sear and extraction spring is probably worn out, it jams pretty bad now. Just a great rifle. I paid $60 dollars for mine and it came with a Bushnell 4x32 scope.
You are quite entertaining. Thanks for the great content.I love my Model 60, it was my first 22 LR rifle. Got it when I was a young teenager and now I am a middle aged man. It's still my rifle of choice for rabbit and farm pest eradication.
I use a Ruger 10/22 (sending CCI stingers) and a Ruger All American in 17 HMR (it sends everything well). The 17 is a tack driver. Thumbs up for squirrel hunting and cooking
I got a model 60 when I was 13 for Christmas, I am 46 now, I have pumped 1000's of rounds through it, I just dismantled it and cleaned it, hardly any ware on anything, never replaced a part..great rifle, I want one in stainless now.
My absolute favorite is the model 60 22LR. Some A hat stole mine had belonged to my father before he passed it to me, There was no doubt the replacement rifle was going to be another model 60 22LR. Only stainless steel this time and I love it.
I have a new marlin 60, my stepson has a new ruger 10/22 I think both guns are equally dependable and very accurate. the biggest difference is all the options you can get for the 10/22.
I have a Marlin Model 70 I picked up at a yard sale for $40. It is probably the best .22 LR I’ve ever owned and I currently have roughly 15 22s. I put a $80 scope on it. The gun has killed countless raccoons (chicken killers) and squirrels. I don’t kill things for fun. I only dispatch them if they are a problem. The squirrels eat holes in all of my shrimp gear (I’m a commercial fisherman). The only complaint I have is the magazine falls out all of the time. Can’t find a catch anywhere. Good video.
I always had a Model 60. I sold a couple, but always went back to them. The one I have now I will have when I die. Everyone brags on the Ruger 10-22. I have had those as well. I always maintained that the Model 60 was the better rifle.
Winchester 1200 1965 model, Marlin model 80 bolt (short, Long,& Long rifle) with weaver 4B scope 1941, Ruger 10/22 3x9x40 Bushnell scope, working on Glenfield 75C long rifle only.
The model 60, last I heard, had produced over 11 million rifles. And, that was decades ago. They have also produced rifles for Sears, Wards, and tons of other companies. The number is probably near 15 million by now. My daughters learned to shoot on one. If you don’t need modularity, and you need a solid small game 22 rifle, they are a great value.
Ruger now owns Marlin---does that make it a Model 60 Ruger ? LOL My mother has an older model 60 that has 18 round tube and My Ruger 10-22 has a 25 round mag . I shoot them and lean a little to the Ruger , but love shooting them. Marlin sighted at 50 yards and Ruger at 100 yards and my model 61 Winchester at 100 yards.
I had a friend give me that same one. He fried/melted the plastic trigger/guard somehow years ago with the “wrong cleaning solvent”🤷♂️ So I replaced the trigger group with an aftermarket aluminum one and set it in a badger bullpup stock. I love it.
One of the greats! I have a model 60 1965 vintage holds more ammo than the new one's 18 and one in the pipe vs14 and it is a nail driver. I was out shooting minnie clay pigeons at 150 yards with scope 18 out of 19 I got. And that's only because one fell down the hill at the gravel pit we were at. Such a great rifle 👍
Notice where your holding the rifle most of this video, right at the front receiver screw. It balances perfectly where it needs to, right in the center, which is also a testament to the thickness of the barrel. The barrel weighs as much as the scope/mount, receiver/internals, and buttstock. It's high cap yet slick and slender, making it a joy to carry in the field. I just stripped and refinished an older 80's 'orange' ebay stock like yours. Dark Walnut and Boiled Linseed Oil. Turned out beautiful. You should try it.
Yak, Awesome video. I agree across the board. You should do a review video of that scope! I keep seeing them among the piles of millions of available scopes but don't know what to spend my cash on. Does the dusk to dawn stuff work? You're the only person I know that's actually used that scope. Let us know.
Thunderbolt ammo is really not good. Last time we used it was 12 or 15 years ago. Never again. Had to clean the gun 3 times while shooting one day at the range. Buy better ammo. He is correct.
I knew I wasn't that crazy,I remember having problems with thunderbolt also 10-15 years ago and pretty much stuck with mini mags in recent years BUT in 2018 a local place had a pallet of thunderbolt's 500ct boxes for $15 if you buy in 3 box and multiples of 3 , my kids had a heritage and Henry I figured wth long story short I shot ALOT of those since 2020 in my Marlin 60 and savage64 and this time had no issues what soever, the savage is worn slap out and isn't 100% on anything including minimags but it didn't have anymore issues than before, the 60 has been 100% no problem so idk what they changed between the early 00's and 2018 but back in the day I was having duds in bolt actions let alone trying to run in a semiauto it was pretty bad.
@@drackxman if you can find any at this point go for it, I got a rather significant amount back in late 2018 when that deal was going on and didn't really mess with them, the kids plinked around a bit I continued to use minimags until the shortage so I have defaulted to my stock of thunderbolt's and so far so good,it does seem to leave more residue possibly than cci ( or that could just be me having a bad taste in my mouth from years ago) but it runs and the way things are today we can't be that picky if it works😉
Hey Yak. I've got a 1975 production Marlin 'Glenfield' model 60 with the 22" barrel and the 18 round capacity. sweetest little 22 I've ever owned. It's a good shooter. I had a Remington 22 pump 1976 years ago it was accurate but not as this old girl. All the best to you.
That must be a really bad boy. After owning a model 60, I switched through a ruger and never looked back. Less maintenance to keep it running and the magazines are super handy.
Very accurate rifle for me . I like all of them . Savage , Ruger , mossberg , Remington . I like cz s , tikkas and anythjng thst hits the what I m aiming at and works every time . Actually savage needs cleaned more often for some reason and doesn’t feed regular lead well but likes hollow point coated or cci
Nope. Not gonna try. My 19 round, 1987 model 60 has about 30k rounds thru it. I'm the original owner. No parts replaced. The barrel is considered a "bull" these days. CCI Mini-Mags are what you shoot thru it. No question. Solid, well-proven design that is widely available.
I bought mine in 1972 with a walnut stock. It is still in excellent condition and it out shoots my 10-22 hands down until I built the 10-22. I will never sell it because it cost 31.97 at a furniture store that sold sporting goods.
Keep it clean an they won’t jam! I bought a Marlin model 75 in 1965 for 34.00 brand new shot tons of squirrels rabbits grouse an dump rats woodchucks fox and other assorted vermin targets tin cans bottles an empty 22 cartridges for practice how many thousands of 22 rounds that have gone through that rifle only God knows only had change the nylon buffer at the back of the receiver once!
I believe that your drill Sargent will always be proud of you and the man you have become. My father gave me a model 60 when I was 10 year's old and spending my summer's on a farm in Tennessee. I cannot tell you how many groundhogs died by a 22lr, I carried that gun every where I went in those day's did not know what a scope was and never put one on the gun. I will hunt squirrel with my Glenfield bolt action which is also manufactured by marlin, I have the 10/22 and with a scope thunderbolts and a sand bag I was able to put 10 bullets in a dime at 50yards. I'm not going to say which gun is more accurate, it will always be one of my favorite 22, the one you shot was newer model mine does not have the bolt open on last shot and I believe it holds 18 rounds your's looks like an anniversary edition. I will bring my 22 when the shtf,, maybe we should start a 22 shtf club just remember how much ammo we could carry
have been looking for over a year for a wood stock 60,, have had a synthetic for a long while now,,, was my first rifle i bought back in the 70s,,, i wanted another 1 and got a new 1 today
My Dad, a Vietnam veteran Marine, gave me a Marlin Model 60 for my birthday when I was a kid and told me if he could only have one rifle for a shtf situation, he would choose the .22 rifle. He said the rounds are plentiful all over the country and you can easily carry thousands of rounds. I still have it. Will always be my favorite rifle.
My dad gave me his, has clean it when he bought it, he gave it to me when I hit age 19, he don't trust me for some reason, I cleaned it, bought a tasco 22mag scope and the grouping impress me so much I love it, keyhole grouping at 30 yard, took so many small game from 10 to 25 yard, eats cci Stanger like breakfast, love it will never trade for any other 22
Also with the 10/22 you can't go wrong with it because if you got a jam or something very easy to clear the jam they're easier to take apart to just 10/22 all the way
I have two model 60 marlins, old ones from the 70's and I do believe they're the best 22 rifle ever made. I shoot stingers through them and have had an issue.
On common scopes, 1 click is .25 inch at 100 yards, so 4 clicks is .25 inch at 25 yards. To move point of impact 1 inch at 25 yards requires 16 clicks.
In my experience having had easily half a dozen of each over the years the marlin is typically more accurate however I find the Marlins to get dirty and start jamming much much sooner than the 10/22 does. I've had Marlins that couldn't make it through half a bulk pack without needing cleaning. I currently have a 10/22 that I honestly don't think I've cleaned for at least 2000 rounds and it's yet to start jamming up like the marlin does after a couple 100 rounds
Marlin 882SS .22WMR with hollow points. I have a Model 60 as well. I found it did not like to cycle Rem Yellowjackets. CCI Stinger shot incredibly well out of it.
The Model 60 is a superb rifle. It's just a shame that they don't make them like they used to...with the longer tube mag that held 18 rounds. The number of those older Model 60s that my cousins and I deliberated burned up and wore out shooting thousands of rapid fire rounds a day. Would love to have half of them today in working order.
I still have mine. My Dad bought it for me. I think it was around 1974. Mine has the squirrel on it. Mine also holds 18 rounds. I won't part with it not ever. You said you use the golden bullets mine will jam up. The only ammunition it like nj
All of my .22lr I have they all like browning target bulk box ammo...which is the cheapest ammo you can buy and it is high velocity...$25 cad which is $18 usd
I have had a Marlin 60 and the Ruger 1022. They are both great rifles. Both accurate. I prefer the Ruger 1022 all day long over the Marlin. Reason being is there are 10 times more accessories for the Ruger. It can be set up to be dead on accurate. Enough to shoot a squirrels eye out at 30-50 yards depending on your capability. Nothing wrong with the Marlin it is a great rifle.
That fishing looks like some fun. The gangsters of the old days used a lot of .22's & would stick it behind someone's ear & pull the trigger. Scrambled brains for sure. It will do some damage.
Yours runs better then mine. Got rid of mine, got an old Remington that cycles shorts in semi-auto. Has a chamber sleeve that stays put with LR but boots the bolt with shorts. Never failed me once.
I will agree with Florida Raider. My preference for squirrel is the CZ455 bolt gun. Do have a vintage 1992 Marlin M2000 with the blue fiberglass stock and she is a great rifle but she's a bit heavy to tote while hunting in the mountains. I like the CZ455 and 10/22 because one can pick up a base rifle and over time build up one heck of a custom Rat Stick. There are countless Gunsmith manufacturers producing high quality aftermarket replacement parts making those platforms much more appealing... at least for me.
Thats odd, my Marlin 60 has an 18 shot tubular magazine with a longer barrell than yours. Ultra quiet and very accurate. Why does yours only have a 14 round magazine?
I hunted with a Marlin just like that back in the 1960's didn't have such a nice scope as that just a little wever 4 powder scope, but it never failed to put a round through a squirrels head.very accurate little 22 and like you said right in a poor working mans price range.
Great vid! I just brought my Marlin 60 home. It feels great in my hands, can't wait to shoot it. I'm thinking about buying the black synthetic stock 60 next. Because it's a Marlin 60!
To be honest I don’t think it’s the best squirrel rifle because you can’t be completely safe shooting squirrels in trees with it as the bullet will go straight through the squirrel and carry on whereas with a shotgun using shot or an air gun that’s not as much of a problem.

You are quite entertaining. Thanks for the great content.I love my Model 60, it was my first 22 LR rifle. Got it when I was a young teenager and now I am a middle aged man. It's still my rifle of choice for rabbit and farm pest eradication.
My dad has had one since the 70’s and It still works fine after a quick clean
My 80+ year old neighbor has a model 60 that he got as a teen. He routinely takes coyotes near his barn, with it. Good Luck, Rick
He fried/melted the plastic trigger/guard somehow years ago with the “wrong cleaning solvent”🤷♂️
So I replaced the trigger group with an aftermarket aluminum one and set it in a badger bullpup stock. I love it.
I own 2 model 60 the one I've had since the 70s shoots as good as it EVER HAS LOVE IT
Iv owned a dozen of both the model 60 marlin and the ruger 10/22 I would agree that the marlin is a more accurate rifle hands down
One of the greats!
Never a problem . Yeah the longer barrel is a little louder
Love my Marlin model 60 SS. Harvested many squirrels with it.
Yak,
Awesome video. I agree across the board.
You should do a review video of that scope!
I keep seeing them among the piles of millions of available scopes but don't know what to spend my cash on.
Does the dusk to dawn stuff work? You're the only person I know that's actually used that scope.
Let us know.
I have that same model with the medallion in the stock. Love this rifle
@@wolfmanrebel874 Interesting. Maybe I'll get a box and try it out. Maybe they got a lot of complains. Thanks for the info.
@@wolfmanrebel874 Well, I'll have to see what my local gun shops have. One f them has been getting a lot of ammo in lately. All calibers.
Jeez...how many times does this guy have to say BAD BOY?
That sounds like good advice on the trigger pull. I've always let completely out but that seems to make good sense.
Great job, much appreciated 👍✌️
Thanks for the shooting tips.
My dad gave me his, has clean it when he bought it, he gave it to me when I hit age 19, he don't trust me for some reason, I cleaned it, bought a tasco 22mag scope and the grouping impress me so much I love it, keyhole grouping at 30 yard, took so many small game from 10 to 25 yard, eats cci Stanger like breakfast, love it will never trade for any other 22
10/22 will always be my favorite
Also with the 10/22 you can't go wrong with it because if you got a jam or something very easy to clear the jam they're easier to take apart to just 10/22 all the way
Dogs and cats living together - I been using that for years! Bill Murray fan from way back!
Is that one shooting session it starts jamming or do you let the carbon just sit for days or months before cleaning it?
K have one bought in 2017, and the trigger pull is horrendous
All of my .22lr I have they all like browning target bulk box ammo...which is the cheapest ammo you can buy and it is high velocity...$25 cad which is $18 usd
I love my model 60 great fun little rifle.
Nice video and nice model 60 I own one and I love it ❤️🇺🇸❤️👍 good shoting
I generally agree with you. But give me a CZ 455 for squirrels all day long. Super accurate.
Agree....... Gambino's favorite pinkster!
An older version if this was my first rifle. As soon as I pick it up I'm immediately familiar with it. It's the gun I've shot the most rounds through.
I just put that exact scope and very similar mounts on my Glenfield Mod 60 about 20 minutes ago
I’ve got the same exact setup. It’s an absolute amazing 22! Time too get some shooting time in as squirrel season approaches here soon 😁
Thats odd, my Marlin 60 has an 18 shot tubular magazine with a longer barrell than yours. Ultra quiet and very accurate. Why does yours only have a 14 round magazine?
Yours is before government restrictions on capacity.
I wish my local cabelas had the woodstock version...but I'm still fine with the "synthetic" stock
I can't stand how light synthetic stocks make a firearm, it makes stabilizing so much more difficult.
When I hunt squirrel I do it with a mossburg model 152 circa 48 to 57.
Awesome video Thank you for sharing.
I just got my first marlin 60 and i love it
What brand and model scope rings are on this gun? I want to see my iron sights under the scope and they look like they’d do the trick!
I hunted with a Marlin just like that back in the 1960's didn't have such a nice scope as that just a little wever 4 powder scope, but it never failed to put a round through a squirrels head.very accurate little 22 and like you said right in a poor working mans price range.
50 yards for me . I liked your tight group.we shoot ground Squirrels an there out 50/100 yards. Lots of fun😃👍🏼🇺🇸
Great vid! I just brought my Marlin 60 home. It feels great in my hands, can't wait to shoot it. I'm thinking about buying the black synthetic stock 60 next. Because it's a Marlin 60!
Sgt. Cardinas!!! My hero!
I disagree about the remington thunderbolt ammo; I had nothing but great results with them; accurate and very reliable.
Damn! Sky scope! No cheek to stock weld there.
I just picked one of these up used and shoots nicely. Really liking this gun and want to take it bear hunting.
You had it right at Marlin just the wrong Model, 39A is what I have used for 40 plus years.
That's a real bad boy.
To be honest I don’t think it’s the best squirrel rifle because you can’t be completely safe shooting squirrels in trees with it as the bullet will go straight through the squirrel and carry on whereas with a shotgun using shot or an air gun that’s not as much of a problem.
