It’s called funk. Phonk is something else entirely. Phonk is a genre derived from an old genre called Memphis rap. Phonk uses cowbell, 808 basses and trap drum kits along with Memphis rap accepellas. Funk however was a genre that surfaced around the same time as phonk and phonk artists started making funk. Unfortunately the audience of those phonk artists thought that funk and phonk were the same thing since the phonk artists started making funk. I mean no harm or disrespect and I’m not hating but people keep mixing funk up with phonk and for many people it’s frustrating.
