This is a great example of Josh's super powers for breaking games. He did something kind of similar with Raft where he beats the entire game by using a specific type of plank to travel the map.

This is a variant of the classic "use a bed/chair/(anything which moves your character when you interact with it to make the animotion look right) to go through a wall" trick that many, many games with some form of building support one way or another. While it's not too hard to simply stop it from working, if you don't take the more involved approach of having to remember to prevent it for every single way it can happen you'll probably accidentally break something else and so it typically ends up being too much trouble to prevent. And while it would certainly be easy to have the game actively note that "the player is outside the area they're supposed to be stuck in at this progression stage" and do something about that, at that point the devs have to consider whether their intended progression is valuable enough to actively discourage players from breaking the game. It might be given this is multiplayer... but then again, maybe not... and the devs did have to have thought of the possibility to begin with. I'd personally have said that given this is supposed to be co-op, as long as the game is making sure the monsters can't be pulled inside the barrier early to grief the other players it's doing fine.
