Big win for Texas. Mismanagement of personnel, poor game planning, and major recruiting blunders (Bru McCoy, asking James Brockermeyer to walk on?) are all reasons Texas needed to make changes. Sarkisian is a better football mind and knows to give the five stars the ball in critical moments (Bijan and Jordan Whittington) instead of keeping them on the sideline. I imagine he isn’t afraid to “win a game 68-58” if he knows the offense can score every time with tempo. He’d probably start the only center who can reach block a DT and have the best RT play RT instead of center. I think we’ll win more games the way we beat Kansas State and Colorado with a coach who has good instincts.

As usual, I like Josh's overall take here. (this video was suggested to me a moment ago, so I found it intriguing to watch two years after the fact).
It should always be noted regarding Sark that not only was he--as you did note clearly--in a vastly different state of who he was, effectively, but he also took over a beyond horrific Washington program (0-12 the year before he got there) and brought them from the pit of college football to a very respectable 9-4/8-5 despite his major personal issues he was struggling with.
I'd like to think that after seeing him now about to begin year three at Texas that a big strength of his actually is the "peripheral" matters outside of the X's and O's.
It seems, anyway, that his experiences in life the last several seasons have made him actually an ideal guy to lead in this wild, wild west era of NIL/portal.
I think Herman would have struggled even more than he did had he remained at Texas.
You note Herman was--at the time Texas hired him--considered to be a X's and O's wizard of sorts, but one thing that wasn't taken into account (nor perhaps could have) was the way the job seemed to change him. He went from the aggressive underdog type guy to at least occasionally being referred to as "Turtle Tom" due to his hyper-conservative play calling with even just a marginal lead.
That's something, of course, that simply can't be predicted. With Sark--especially in him calling the plays, generally, we'll have to see if that same pressure changes his aggressive approach.
Thanks for your videos, as always (and enjoyed your Sark interview the other day!)

I'm glad we kept the Eyes of Texas and got ride of Tom Herman. He used up a lot of good will trying to find Racism at UT, even if it wasn't there. He could have had another year maybe two but when players don't show up for the school song after the game and then convince the band not to play it he was done in my book. He was more interested in political correctness than football.

The days of the longhorns dominating college football are over; never to return again. They should have done it right and jumped in bed with timmy tebows dad, urban meyer....he would have restored that team to greatness. We can thank the nick sabans of the world for making head coaching jobs hard to keep. Nick saban turned alabama around in 2 years so now every school think that's how it should be... If VT fired Frank Beamer early in his coaching years when he went 2-8 at VT they would be in the American athletic conference right now probably. Instead they had the longest bowl streak in college football until this year when they opted out, multi consecutive 10+ win seasons 4 acc titles in like 7 years, some big east titles. When the acc expanded VT was the Clemson of the conference until Beamer got too old to do it anymore. Patience is a good virtue to have, sometimes a coach just needs a scare to wake up like Justin Fuente this year. Last year Baylor wanted Fuente and this year VT had to have a sit-down on whether to keep him, they looked back at Beamers history, anyone else would've fired him.
