I'd pay $40 more if it had SSB (on HF) and AM demodulation from 108-136 Mhz (airband). The Bluetooth app is a great feature. Sure wish they would do something similar to the CountyComm GP-7.
I'm pretty happy with my PL-368, especially since it has single side band reception. Otherwise, I'd be all over that thing. That's a really neat little radio. Price is pretty decent as well.
Yeah SSB is really helpful especially when trying to listen to an AM broadcast that has interference close to the center carrier (not exactly on the center carrier but on one of the side bands, if said interference is on the upper side band you use lower side band, and vice versa). And AM sync usually doesn't help when there's interference anywhere in the signal. I'm of the mind of a shortwave receiver doesn't have SSB it's almost useless, not only for AM, but you miss out on so many broadcasts that do use SSB (ocean air traffic, number stations, pirates, and more).
Good overview. Happen to have gotten one yesterday. Sound is definitely well above average and strong, especially considering the size (has EQ modes for music playback). App actually works well, allows you to finer tune in vhf ( rather than maybe the 5k steps). SW reception isn't too impressive here (tried several clipped antenna setups). I think I'm gonna return mine and get an ssb sw receiver, but wow, pretty nifty for how tiny the thing is.
If I'm going to be buying a shortwave receiver it has to have SSB, SSB can be used for more than receiving SSB signals (can be used for AM to get around interference if the interference falls into one of the side bands of the AM signal), plus you miss out on many of the non Ham SSB broadcasts. It has to have complete Shortwave coverage (1710-30MHz), otherwise it's pretty much worthless to me. And not really a requirement but to be able to switch to FM mode on other bands (like CB being that the FCC now allows FM on CB). Being that there are no shortwave receivers that do this it's not really mandatory if it does or not, but I'd love to see it happen.
Thank you for the review, this radio seems pretty good for a small emergency one. Do you have any recommendations for a larger one? Any experience with the Kaito Voyager series? Thanks!
Nice review. I work in a warehouse and must leave my phone in my locker adjacent to tge breakroom. There are a few walls separating the locker room from my work area. Do you think that my phone will still send a signal to the radio?
Hey I'm older but want licensed for radio. I have memory and focus issues due to lots of accidents. Advice on studying for the test and taking it in my current condition?
I got this radio. It's neat with some neat features but it is not a DX machine in any manner or form and AM reception is horrible. It also only has 9 hour power only, which makes it kind of useless unless you want to keep charging it every day. EDIT: bluetooth is the culprit for the very short battery life. Turning it off increases it greatly.
G'day mate, like the vid but what I wanted to know is about C.B. side of this Radio, how far can it go ? A vid on that would be great to see thanks mate 👍 🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘
Just an FYI, I couldn't get the discount code to work. But I ordered the radio anyhow and it arrived today. I like it! Thanks for doing the review!

Great radio. I need a good radio! Looks promising for sure. Thank you for another great video🎉

Thank you for showing us the radio. Have a good Saturday.
That radio is cool. ❤
I like the RADDY products
great addition to the comms system.

great little radio to have
to monitor communications. what would be nice if they put a jack for a external antenna instead of a alagator clip

Thanks for the video ! I've got a question... Does it record FM broadcasts in stereo ?
No
Does it receive air bands? Doesn’t really specify am air band but frequency range covers it.
It receives those frequencies but only in FM. Airplanes use AM so you won't be able to hear them.
I have one of these, good radio but when I use the QR code to download the App it asks for a credit card number. Whats up with that?
No idea I have used that QR code multiple times and it never did that to me, its in the play store as Radio C
@@Iridium242 Android doesnt have it. But if I use the QR code, once it loads it asks me for info including a cc#. It wont go any farther without it.
@@Iridium242 Try it again if you havent done it in a while. Might be something they just started.
@@RadioRich100 Tried it again no credit card info asked for then again i do have the QR code they sent me a while back
@@Iridium242 Thanks I probably have an updated one. Its in a separate booklet

I need help I can’t stop buying the stuff you show 😮

Three hours to charge a 1000 mah battery? That's pretty bad. That's 0.33a whereas a smartphone charges at least at 2.1a up to 3a.

Unfortunately it does not cover the 10-11 meter band. Seems like an oversight.
