    Totally agree! Speed editing, the new culling tool and working on multiple images at the same time are huge time safers as well. And yes: I‘d love to see AI masking in C1 as well 👏👏

    Commercial and wedding photographer since 1976. Learned and used every version of PS and LR until last year. Went to C1 and Affinity. Bought both without subscriptions. C1 is easier for me to use. Better colors, many more options, faster Raw conversions. I now shoot with SONY a1 cameras. Very happy with my decisions.

    I have one question
    Is it possible to trasfer original raw file of c1 edits in lightroom for AI background masking and other edits? Can i use both software together with original file without any compression?

    Could you maybe let me know what your workflow is when using both LR and C1? I would love to use C1 for color finessing but as you say the masks are amazing in LR. Thanks!

    Just ditched everything Adobe a few weeks ago and switched to C1 and Affinity for my photography work. I really like C1 so far, although I've also noticed it is slower at importing or exporting photos than LR was.

    After using Capture One for a year or so I just switched back to Lightroom because of the latest selection tools. Capture One is really behind on making selections and for me I was having to edit most images with Photoshop and the ACR filter. For culling I'm now using FastStone which is really fast.

      Agreed on C1 being behind. My work is quite controlled so it doesn't necessitate it but they are falling behind vs LR - it's pretty incredible what Adobe pulled off. - YB

    New user to capture one. I am missing something in general here. I just shot a job with my Nikon set to raw/jpg (had to remove the Nikon SD card for C1 it to work) into Capture One. I assumed that Capture One would use the Nikon setting of RAW and JPG on the Capture One when it captured the images. Where do you tell C1 to save the files as RAW files....thanks

    I'm currently looking an old version of Lightroom and while I'm already quite used to it, I'm missing the new AI features. I was just about to get a subscription when I noticed that it's a 1-year contract, even though it's paid monthly. And that if I decide to stop using it, I have to pay 50% of the remaining monthly installments just to cancel it. That pissed me off.
    So that's how I found about Capture One and now I'm looking into it. It seems really good and the price with the coupon applied is almost bearable, especially with the 30-day trial that is actually enough time to make the right decision, compared to 7 days from Adobe. I just can't seem to find information on whether it has the same AI denoise capabilities of Lightroom or would I be forced to buy Topaz, in addition to C1, for that task alone.
    P.S. I've had zero of the performance issues you're having with Lightroom - everything is applied almost instantly. But then again, I'm using my custom-built high-end PC with a 12-core overclocked CPU, overclocked 6900XT 16GB GPU, 64GB of fast memory, extremely fast NVMe drive and so on. Perhaps that's the reason, perhaps my couple of years old version is more reliable, who knows.

    C1 of course added the AI selection tools not long after this video was released and they are very good - subject, background and an AI selection tool for other things too - either hover it over what you want or draw a box round it, really accurate. C1 has a number of AI tools (eg the culling tool, eye focus, dust removal, smart adjustments for example) that make the end to end workflow very fast and produces excellent results. I left Adobe several years ago and moved to C1 (Sony system). I do the vast majority of my editing in C1 and only very rarely need a pixel editor. If I do it is for larger background changes or object removal, or frequency separation. I think the big difference between LR and C1 is that C1 is a true end to end box of tools - tether to export, whereas LR not so much. (weddings, events, brand and portrait photographer).

  • @EsotericNY
    @EsotericNY Год назад +1

    I made the switch to C1 from LR years ago...mainly because of the tethering workflow and working primarily in RAW formats. Haven't looked back but I keep Adobe around ...and DxO PL. Keep up the great work. As for cost, it becomes less of an issue when your career depends on high quality and volume. Same with moving from other well known video editors... once you land on DaVinci Resolve there's no turning back.

    • @brianwitter3271
      @brianwitter3271 Год назад

      Just to point out it is not a Canon/LR thing but different tools in different hands thing. I also shoot Canon and for me color was the first thing that sent me to try Capture One. I was a LR user from the original Win beta when Adobe bought RawShooter. I learned many tricks to try and get the colors right, in the end switching to C1 was the solution for that and many other things that annoyed me in LR. Switched around five years ago, still have LR with the Photo Plan but haven't even launched it.

    • @kevinastley2562
      @kevinastley2562 Год назад

      @Brian Witter for me LR is far better for my work, I prefer the tools and layout. I've had no problem editing with it. I use a few of the Adobe apps and on the whole I am happy with them. I still have C1 installed but it would be my second choice. Both good but LR for me is edges it.

    Yes, capture one is better (other the the lack of AI) however, it also costs a lot more and Capture One even took away the upgrade pricing which was already poor to begin with. I still use it, but upgrade pricing is really out of control at this point.

    20 seconds to bring up full image in LR? Not sure what but something wrong with your PC. My RAWs are on a NAS and it is a second or two tops and that’s when I notice it. I know you still have the other points for C1 but the loading thing means something is clearly strange for your PC.

    • @YvensBPhoto
      @YvensBPhoto Год назад

      It's weird indeed. Like I said, I had similar odd behavior from C1 but resolved later so perhaps, my machine is strange or I should move to Apple.

  • @WordupG
    @WordupG 7 месяцев назад

    I’ve really tried to get into C1, but the cataloging & editing workflow is just so unintuitive and it takes many more clicks to accomplish the same thing. Sure SOME tools are better optimized in C1, but I’m much much faster in LR overall.
    I really wish I could just buy LR without a subscription. I’ll probably still switch to C1 just because I despise the fact that the moment I stop sending Adobe monthly payments, the software is disabled.

    I appreciate your opinion, but what your saying is a matter of profile adjuctments (i,e. RGB vs Srgb vs Profoto etc etc) if my Sony Cameras color profile is set to Srgb and my printer is Adobe RGB 1998 or something of course the final prints are not gonna be the same even the computers color profile must match the all around color mangagement RGB for Camera, Printer, and Computer and even your software must be set....but one thing i will say i love Capture 1's user interface everything is right their i don't have to leave my supplies(Photos) and go into another room (Development) to edit !!!

    • @robhallphoto
      @robhallphoto  Год назад

      Color space (RGB / sRGB / Profoto) is independent of how a raw processor interprets color information from a raw file.
      “Sony cameras color profile is set to sRGB”…this again has nothing to do with the color of raw processing. Raw files do not have a defined color space. The color space of a computer dictates the available color space that your raw file can be displayed in. You can have the same computer, same monitor, same color space and open up the same image file, yet experience different hue and tonality depending on the raw processor used (as well as profiles within the raw processor).
      You clearly have some understanding about color space / color management, but your points don’t relate to the color discussion made in this video whatsoever.

    100% agree - please get some good AI subject selection. Would put a nail in the coffin of LR (for most professionals, anyway). But one of the best things about C1 has to be SESSIONS!! I can't tell you how much of a game changer that's been for me. I can take my work on the go, move from one computer to another, and not have too worry about my whole catalogue crashing/corrupting and losing everything.
    Between session, layers, and the skin tone tools, it's not even a question for me - and the colours are better no matter what brand I shoot.

    • @ArminSteiner
      @ArminSteiner 11 месяцев назад

      With LR you can work on different devices as well.

    • @captureitphotography2352
      @captureitphotography2352 11 месяцев назад

      @@ArminSteiner sure, but not as seamlessly. Unless you're putting your whole catalogue file on an SSD or opening a new catalogue every session, LR will search for your files every time and try to sync up the catalogue. Sessions are SO much more optimized for it.

    Capture one needs AI masking like lightroom. Also, Capture one only provides updates for 1 year even on the 1-time license purchase.

    • @ickebins6948

      Well correct me if I'm wrong but if you buy the "unlimited" license you only get what you pay for in that moment.
      Any future updates (even 1 day later) you don't get. You might receive bugfixes and minor stuff but new features you don't.

    ASUS P8Z68 De Luxe MB with an Intel Core I7 2600K CPU.
    16GB of RAM
    No Crashes and fast enough when rendering etc.
    My feeling is that C1 is way to complicated for my workflow, and each time i give C1 a testrun, I very rapidly returns to LR, which IMO only gets better and better...
    So allow me to disagree with you....
    (But I will give C1 another test-shot .... what if! ;-) )

  • @VTGGT
    @VTGGT Год назад

    "If ain't broke don't fix it" as a Nikon Shooter and photojournalist I shoot a lot of jpg's which need minimal editing in order to get fast into the Press the moment something is happening. (Time from shooting to publishing less than 3mins) Sometime, I rented a Sony camera and the colors indeed looked terrible in LR but I created a color Calibration profile which corrects a lot of the shitty Color Science (PLEASE LEARN HOW TO USE CALLIBRATION TAB IN LR). I will also never buy a Sony camera for this reason. We shouldn't rely on a software for something that had to be done from the constuction of the camera.
    Everybody uses LR at the office so we share files and knowledge quickly and effeciently. Learning sth new is really painful and useless for the poor quality printing papers the Press uses. Also for me LR is just as good as it gets.
    A fellow photographer uses C1 on his best paid jobs and tells me there is a lot of potential that C1 unlocks to a photo but for time on I haven't needed this potential.
