The C1 has undoubtedly been a success story for Citroen in the UK. With 80,000 sales between its initial launch in 2005 and the refreshed model we look at here, which arrived in 2012, this popular city car did all that could reasonably be asked of it. Ultimately, it was overtaken by newer and smarter rivals but as a used buy, it makes a great deal of sense. Here's what to look for when tracking down a used example.

I have a 2008 c1. Great little car, brilliant on fuel, reliable and pretty good fun to drive. Just finished paying for it and intend on enjoying it for a couple more years before changing up to something newer.

Why change to something newer? If it's paid for and reliable I'd keep it.

I have a 2007 C1 no frills vibe. It's my spare car now but it's still solid and fun to drive. Water leaks are mimimal on mine.

@@kottelkannim4919 My Peugeot 107 ( same car) never experienced any leaks . I owned it for 9 years and 117,000 miles later still no new clutch or clutch issues . Car had its original clutch.

Es ist kein "City Car", es ist der zuverlässigste Freund den man haben kann und er lässt dich nie im Stich, auch nicht auf Urlaubsfahrten quer durch Europa! Und er ist ein unfassbar dankbares Auto :-)

The kref1 engine in these cars is absolutely superb, economy, speed, reliability and ease of maintenance. These make leyland minis look bad. Daughter had one 11 yrs bought at 18k now done 99k. No repairs except maintenance and back box. One negative is tappety ticking noise from cold but soon goes. It’s normal according to other sites on here. My daughters will do 60 mpg on a run. It’s a tiny and light engine but pulls well in any gear. Rev it and it sounds great and will keep up no problem. I think these are the best starter car.

I have a Peugeot 107 and I actually like the 'tappety ticking' noise. It gives the engine character which is something most cars lack these days. Yes they're good starter cars but I've been driving since the early 80s and my 107 is perhaps the best car I've owned. Absolutely love it.

Another car and driving Gold standard car review, many thanks.
These small modern cars are astonishingly competent nowadays, for example the Toyota funcargo, Toyota Ractis, and my present 2013 Nissan cube Z12, all part of the really huge number used cars from Japan on the roads here in NZ.
    Great review.

The London congestion charge is still payable on the C1, but it is ULEZ exempt.
