Fanatics Fest show floor tour and narration by NEO is like being there, only I didn't have to drop a grand on a room and plane tickets, and my feet aren't tired. Thank you oh warrior of the hobby. We are all eternally grateful for your sacrifices. ☺
Let’s be real. Dealers are there to stay in the good graces of Fanatics. Profit/loss is secondary.
Dealers and influencers
Its a criminal enterprise, they operate exactly as one would.
Suckling that topps distribution
The crazy thing is that more people will be at the Javits center next Friday for Anime nyc, then this will have the entire weekend.
There’s no way
BTW, the cost of lodging and parking can easily be reduced, if folks from out of state would just stay at a hotel in NJ and take an Uber from there. The center is near the tunnel to NJ. Maybe Fanatics can make it easier for the Fans in the future by running shuttle buses from NJ to the convention center in the future.
Looks like a great place to pick up chicks
😂
Yes. Sports Card Radio found one of the three women attending the event yesterday.
Seems very similar to a comiccon in that about 25% is comics and 25% other merchandise and 50% super cool kid friendly events/ actual things to do.
Very accurate
So PSA retracted grades for cards that were knowingly treated with Kurt's Card Care. Now we see Mr. Minty cleaning cards next to PSA? Make that make sense.
If Kurt was a little bigger with a reputable attorney on retainer they wouldn’t have F’d with him. They sized him up and decided the risk would be worth it
Just a PR move they can't detect shit
@@PropiaPersona exactly 👍🏻
Would’ve went if the tickets were $30, I’m not paying close to $60 and then you gotta pay even more for meet and greets. Way overpriced for a inaugural show. And I live out here too.
Best line convention ever. My favorite is that really long one with all of the dudes. If this is all there is, I still would choose Comic Con over this. They have Cosplaying so at least you have something interesting to look at when some Star Wars or anime person attends. My suggestion to Rubin for future years is to sponsor or figure out a way to get Cosplayers involved. At least with the non-sports stuff like WWE and Star Wars.
Thanks for taking us around the show! Looking forward to the other videos
Was my first card show in probably 30 years. I went in looking for patch autos of basketball hall of famers. To my surprise, I barely saw any. So instead of spending money on a card, I bought a Brooklyn Nets WWE belt. I thought those belts were really cool.
9:22 love the card cleaning booth right by the PSA booth.
…… I’m sure it’s just a coincidence 🤨.
Wasted money. 😢
Its a scam they are looking for victims.
Thanks for the walk through.....I'm having FOMO for the non-card stuff. Looks like a great time. Thanks again!
Thanks Neo....today will be the busiest day for sure. Looks like a lot of fun but I don't know if you would need 3 days in order to take everything in, but I feel like Saturday is their biggest day, especially related to guest panels and things like that
💯 Mr. Hamm
Glad I didnt go. Enough said.
🙄
2:10 - the guy matching his shoes to his jersey - if you're watching this, good choice!
Seems great if you love corporations and sideshow games.
You forgot the 300-400 table card show part
I don't know what you're talking about. As a buyer, it's one of the best card shows, and some says it's even better than the Nationals, if 90s and modern cards is your thing. I have seen so many PMG, credentials, star rubies, platinums, logomans, MJ, Kobe, and Lebron autos. Tons of spaces, tons of mid to high end 90s, 00s and modern cards, without having to shift through large amount of vintage tables. The only negative point is maybe from the vendor/seller point of view.
People like you complain about everything
"There are a billion people freaking out about something I don't care about" is pretty much a guarantee at least once at every large show one goes to.
If I was doing something like this for sure with the lines I would spend one full day just getting exclusive drops and autographs. I get it a lot of older folks are cranky and don't like to stand in line for 2+ hrs but if you are there for that stuff it is what it is. Then I would take another day going through the card show section and take in the different displays they have going on almost like a museum type deal then the last day hit up the interactive stuff. So for sure there is 3 days worth of stuff to do it's just how much does each person really want to do.
Guy yawning in the Topps line sums up this show
This was really a great video and analysis of the event. I expect Saturday to have a slightly different vibe. So i can't wait to see what you post in your next video.
man all those vips were so lucky that they got to skip that line
Any leads on the Dallas card show thieves Detective Neo??? 😂
Definitely quiet for my New York show, should be packed instead
heard east coast national is this weekend about an hr away fwiw
Seems like the overpriced cash grab and VIP nonsense that the monopoly Fanatics has done to avoid dealing with the average collector is working. This is the first year ever I refused to buy Topps Chrome at inflated cost of $45 per blaster with a 300 card checklist, up 80 cards over last year. Also, MVP buyback cards are noticeably tougher to pull because of it.
Thank you for the insight! I was getting a little bit of fomo so this was awesome!
Hobby burnout?
next year they need to fix that VIP PASS it didin't make any sense.. whether you had it or not the lines are long and about the same amount of waiting time.. next year they need to fix that...
That’s the biggest issue I ran into this weekend
LMFAO people waiting in line for hobby boxes THATS ALREADY BEEN CT SCAN 2:15 LMFAO
Where's the CT machine...asking for a friend
In my hotel room
Yo Tango Foxtrot Neo. Rodger Lima Charlie!
TAG? Lmao
Love seeing all the Jalen Brunson jersey’s. Lol. Guy is going to the moon this year 🚀
What kind of inventory & dealers were in attendance? Ultra-modern? Vintage? Junk Wax? 90s Inserts?
How is the wifi / cellular signal service?
Zero issues
this what the national should have as a convention ctr!!!!
Fanatics has to be shitting themselves. Nobody is there. Combination of high entry fee and close proximity to National?
Ummm no one is here huh? Interesting take.
It looks like a huge venue.
@@NEO_Cards_Comics relative to a large card show, nobody is there. That could be different today.
AGREE fanatics is trash NEO PUMPER WILL SAY ANYTHING AS HES SHADY to stay in there grace
7:42 Had to laugh at how far time had dissipated at the show….. totally understand though. Looks like the kind of event you could lose hours at without breaking a sweat.
It looks fun for its 1st show ever, I think its just going to get bigger and better.
Should have had it way after or way before the National. Bad timing
Didn’t have a choice this is when the building was open
Thanks for sharing
Hey NEO, I was there as well on Friday, and I saw you. You were talking to someone, so I didn't want to interrupt you. The show was great, especially for the 90s and modern sports cards buyers, but as always, there were a few unrealistic sellers who wouldn't come down in prices to meet the comps. Bought a jordan refractor and a Kobe refractor from the 1996 sets, but had my eyes on a 1996 MJ rubies from Skybox series 2, but the seller wants $1,200, when similar card at the same grade was sold a month earlier for $450, and a 2000 Kobe platinum PSA 6 that the seller wants for no less than $3,800, cause he bought it for $3,500, but the only comp we can find was from a year ago for around $3,500 for a PSA 8.
That's the problem with comps. They don't represent real prices. They only represent the price for another transaction. Price is only found when a buyer and seller agree on one for a specific card. If you don't have a lot of recent comps, say a dozen in a month, you cannot really establish a market price. And that's why there is arbitrage in the hobby.
@@KK-pm7ud You'll almost never see a dozen or so sold prices within a month for most of the rarer cards, we're not talking about modern silver or holo cards. By your logic, there would be no establish price for the rarer cards.
@@mannyk1986 That was my point about a dozen sales. In order to get a market price for something you have to have multiple sales of the same thing. That's how economics works. In this situation there were two parties to a transaction. You as the potential buyer and they as the potential seller. You set your price and they set theirs. Your price is based on what you value the item at and theirs is based on what they value theirs at. And since there wasn't an overlap between the values a sales price wasn't established and a transaction consummated. Yes, the seller could be posturing. But it's just more likely you both disagree on the value of the item. Until a transaction is made on that specific card, there really won't be a real price established. And you can't really know with reliability what the market prices the card at without multiple sales within a short time period. Outside of that everything is guessed at through comparable extended in other ways like comparable players in a specific set or similar set or other sales by that same player. But those comps are just an estimate until a sale actually occurs.
@@KK-pm7ud That's baloney, if what you're saying is true, then the vast majority of cards out doesn't have a value, due to the lack sufficient quantity of comps over a short period. In my case, neither seller doubted the comps, but have only indicated that they bought them for too much to sell at the comps shown.
@@mannyk1986 What I am saying is true. Everything has a value. However that value is determined by each individual. And for a price to be determined by the market you need sales. In your example you had one value placed on the card and another person has a value they are placing on the card. However, your value and their value do not overlap and a sale wasn't made to establish a transaction price. Which is why I believe a lot of these prices at the high end in the hobby are ridiculous and many are fraudulent because of people bidding to the prices of their own stuff. Or people using a reference or transaction price to determine value. It's all fine and good while people are speculating heavily and liquidity is high. But when things become overextend and liquidity dries up, more realistic prices are established. Probably significantly lower than where people are now with their pricing. But that's all beyond the scope of your situation. Because today, before the obvious crash coming in the future, a market price for your card hasn't been established because there hasn't been enough sales to support one. As an aside because you seem very passionate, I'll give you a word of advice. Watch the price of sealed wax in the hobby and how it reacts to this CT scanning scuttlebutt. If the number of box sales and prices of box sales falls significantly over the next 12 months, seriously consider selling your high end cards. Because too many people believe that even though sealed wax will fall in price, the same cards in those boxes will not because a price has been "established." However, everyone is ignoring how the price of boxes themselves impact the values of the cards pulled from those same boxes. And even more people are ignoring the liquidity and paper wealth created from high priced sealed wax that will disappear when those prices fall. Which means that those people holding those boxes will see their wealth decrease significantly and could impact their willingness or ability to purchase expensive singles to add to their collection. Believe me or not, it doesn't impact my life. But you seem like a reasonable person and savvy buyer, so I thought I'd throw you a bone and give you some insight into what is potentially coming.
Looks like a fun show / I'm sure more people will come to buy cards when it gains steam.... this is the 1st one ever right?
The architecture of the Javits center brings the scaffolding problem of NYC into an interior space, coupled with bondo'd chipping penitentiary style grey floors that mirror the walked streets minus the history. Never seen a space give off the cold vibes that personify what Fanatics is. Possibly the emptiest sq footage of the city, literally no traffic, might wait in line longer for a coffee in soho.
It looks like Fanatics actually provided tabletop showcases for the dealers?
If so, Thats a great idea. Makes it so much easier to travel as a dealer & not have to haul your own.
They did
@@NEO_Cards_Comics thats whats up. One of the biggest hurdles I ever deal with is lugging my aluminum ones state to state. Once I even shipped them to a friend local to a convention I was doing. Ended up having to sell my cases at the end of the show because I was flying back home & didnt have time to pack & ship them home!
(I’m thinking they did that for uniformity/professionality sake too).
Awesome video. How much does a regular entry fee cost plus parking?
No idea on parking. Or single day passes
It’s NYC - you’re not driving. You use public transit.
@Alurvful I reside in Houston, didn't realize there's no parking cost. Can you confirm what entry fee is or was to get in? Lol
The 3 Mets guys were just odd.
Is 1,800 hobby boxes the total print run?
Per day so x3
@@NEO_Cards_Comics Then Topps is lying to us about the Big Apple Refractors. They claim there are 6 per hobby box, and the print run for the refractors is less than 50. With 300-players (per the checklist) the math isn't working. Even if we assume "less than 50 means 49" that only calculates to 2,450 hobby boxes. That's not even counting that blasters will have these Big Apple Refractors as well so there's probably less than 1,800 hobby boxes in total.
Unless inserts also come in the Big Apple Refractors. Checklist didn't say they did.
$3200 for a table...ouch. There didn't seem to be enough traffic to substantiate that price. I heard most people came to sit in the auditorium and watch Tom Brady and others in panel discussions. It seems everything is spaced out well. It would probably make a great venue for a national but the rent would be too high. Also nobody selling cards might be a sign that the market has finally hit bottom. I finally bought some cards on Ebay the other day but they weren't sports cards. They were political cards out of the Ginter Chrome set.
Since it's the first day and the first time this is happening, it isn't surprising that attendance is low. It's entirely possible that the next few days will be packed.
That said, it feels like seeing a young person try on their parents' clothes. We'll have to wait and see if Fanatics will need to or can grow into the space.
Thanks for the video!
One thing to say to fanatics...blow me and you ruined the hobby
What was in the VIP gift bag?
It’s on my IG reel
