I was stationed at NAS Brunswick,ME, in P3UII. We would at the end of some of our missions work with the ships radar operators dial in the distance/altitude parameters.
As a Marine I was once aboard a fleet carrier...and at the time we were up on the Philippine Sea, and orders came down over the speaker to prepare for something, I didn't hear what exactly but it only took a few seconds to realize that every sailor on the ship was in a hurry to do something so I asked a CPO what was happening....all he said was typhoon. Shortly I was relived of duty temporarily and told to go below. Again I asked a sailor what we were going to do, he told me we were running for port. The Typhoon had evidently changed directions and I asked how far it was to land...he smiled and said just 5 miles....straight down, we were up on the deepest place in the ocean and running for our lives. My intro to Sea Duty! Before I went below I noticed one of our escort vessels, which was a DD I think, in the distance and it looked very tiny out there in the sea where it would enter a trough amidst the huge swells and seemed to have sunk, but no...it bobbed up again and I thought in my mind that this ship and any others that small were not going to make it through this, because I was on the biggest ship out there and it was like a roller coaster. It was bad, especially the first time one has ever been on blue water. I've been aboard a few ships after that but never felt like I was about to meet my maker. You would NEVER get me on something that small, especially on the Pacific Ocean. They hunt submarines for a living for crying out loud! A big thanks to all you servicemen for what you do!
@@williammcleod192 I was very luck my first time on blue water, being on a carrier, up on the Philippine Sea and had to run for port away from Typhoon. Have a good one, and keep your fingers crossed.
It was said that Bath built is best built. The Iron Works in Bath, Maine still produces high quality ships for the US Navy. The three Zumwalt class ships are also products of BIW. We folks in Bath are proud of the Navy and the excellent Bath built ships they sail.
We all share pride in our Navy and it’s Service People, but the best we build and sail comes from below the Mason Dixon line. Yankees like to cry a lot, and that’s the only reason they’re in business, that and all their money. Won’t be long before all industry moves out of the bat shit crazy North.
I was in the Navy on a WWII destroyer in 1968 in the sea of Japan in November in October with 40 degree rolls waves that hit the antennas between swells
I clicked to learn about a US Navy destroyer, not have 40% of the video be about the USAF. Much respect to both, but if I want to watch planes I’ll watch their videos - not one about the Navy.
it's marvelous open ocean destroyer guarantee throwing it into the storm & nothing going to happened to it because is extremely well build it's strong & it's very good therefore it's going to last & for that reason the U S NAVY plan to hold it that is evident because again of it's high quality even when it get old still can changed it's communication & defense systems ,armaments ,radar e t c .& still suited for service heard that the Greek navy eyed two of them however the U S NAVY department refused to released them because as I said are so good !!!

Minute 2:38, Why those Spanish flags (bull on the middle) on the caps? Do they belong to Rota Navy Base? Does anybody know? Thank you. Greetings from Spain.
Can you point out the big storm and waves. I couldn’t see them. Oh , and the Bourke class destroyer has been done to death. At least do something original.
nothing like the ship rocking and you're in your rack sleeping.. some of the best sleep of my life
Yes, I slept like a baby on a ship when I was in the Navy.

You learn to love it...I was on a FFG ... smaller than a DDG.. that and port visits are what I miss.

Mit allem Respekt, eure Überschrift Übersetzung ist grottenschlecht.
Looks pretty much like a normal size destroyer to me.

massive waves?????
A Japanese Coast Guard patrol boat also twice broke through a tsunami of about 33ft.
Very interesting video but allow me one question. Does it look more professional in USA if they act like robots synchron in the thunderbirds Squadron?
US has the best flookin navy in the world bar none, ya hear me. peace.
normal ship operation my friend. of a cruiser.
Hey, I noticed the steering wheel does not have airbags! 😂😂
Esos barco es tan diseñados para todos esos lugares de las tormentas
I was on for 10 cans 15 years and say rock ‘n’ roll
Don't see any massive waves in this video, not even close. Been in bigger seas in a 24 foot sailboat.

Si ça c'est massif ,je vous invite a regarder l'Abeille Flandre .
DD's are not gigantic. They are greyhounds. They move fast but they are quite small by any ship's standard.
except FFGs lol
Umm a destroyer is not a gigantic ship. A carrier is. And those waves ain’t that bad.
Massive waves?
warship destroyer or warship crusher which is greater

Gigantic? Arleigh Burke class destroyers have displacement from 8 to under 10 thousand tones. About the size of a rescue boat on a cruise ship...
