- Prashant Raj and Biswa Kalyan Rath came together 2 years ago and decided to do something very special for chess - document the journey of young Indian talents - Pragg, Arjun, Nihal, Gukesh. And that is how it all began. Now two years later, the youngsters have surpassed all expectations with Gukesh becoming the World Championship Challenger. How is the documentary being created and how have Biswa and Prashant worked on this?
Prashant Raj is the co-founder and chief creative producer at Dopamine Media. He has worked on many projects, the most well-known being Alma Matters which was featured on Netflix. Biswa is a famous stand-up comedian in India and has been hooked to chess since the lockdown!

i remember listening to him speak at pragg's game against magnus and was very excited about a documentary on our potential candidates, a year later with gukesh contesting for the world championship soon this is going to be an incredible documentary, cant wait to see it.

Andhra telungana is following the model. In 10 yrs people will talk about AP telungana . One thing about Ap and telugana is if they dedicate they immerse themselves.

Such a wholesome video. It clearly depicts the love for chess in our country and it already feels how beautiful the documentary would be. And the best thing, people completely outside this chess community have contributed so much to the boon of the chess in India is so wonderful. Nobody thought an amalgam of chess and comedian will be revolution in the world of chess viewership and love for chess. We need to understand that out of 1.8 million subscribers here, about 1.5 million may not have the chess knowledge initially but Sagar and Samay proudly added 1.5 million(if not more) people to playing chess.

Biswa has made , writen Lakhon me Ek , that story is also based on JEE aspirants' life . He has directed multiple comedy specials for other comedians. And he has been a writer at AIB . So there comes his expertise with writing filming and then chess comes in his life from samay raina , sagar shah and he meets this gentleman who created Alma matters . Hence , Rise of the Planet of Apes.
I'm getting goosebumps just by looking at the glimpses of this documentary seems like they've really worked hard.

Great to note and as a sincere chess follower since the 1970s, it should be a fascinating story even as we continue to bask in the country’s glory of 2 gold medals in the 2024 Chess Olympiad. As I kept watching I could get flashbacks to so many stories that we followed in Chess with and without Chess base India and loved every bit of it. Hope this documentary inspires all those connected with Chess understand the commitment it takes to excel in Chess backed by a huge background ecosystem for each player and every help is a step an important move for taking Indian Chess higher. With all good wishes

This documentary is much more needed than that stupid Magnus Hans documentary that Netflix is apparently going to release next year...this is about the chess journey of our young talents, while that documentary of Hans and Magnus is purely being made to mint more money out of the scandal...I'm pretty certain that in secret magnus and hans are buddies

SOMEHOW SELL to Netflix AFTER Gukesh is WC yaar (SUTOVSKY ko pakdo bhai... to get the RAW footage THERE!) THEN: 1. Do on ALL Indian chess players (LOVE the angle on earlier players like Negi. ALSO do on the FIRST 5 GMs of India: DID you know Sasikiran became GM in 2000, and he was the 5th GM of India or something?!) 2. THIS will make in an ENDURING thing - and we can have 4 seasons at least! (LIKE Drive to Survive!!) @ChessBaseIndiaChannel.
Hope the audience does justice to their work becoz people are so use to consuming hypothetical, over the board action, drama in web series that they ignore series like Rocket boys just becoz it doesn't have that masala in it.

That reasoning given by Biswa as to what a victory means for each person in the ecosystem is such an interesting take on it. Each person's reason for victory is so different from one another and to capture it all and make it human will be fabulous!

This documentary is going to be so great. This is truly the golden era for Indian chess. For example, until the time they had filmed before this interview, they were thinking it was the best. But now, India has won not one gold, not two golds, but a total of six golds, including a spectacular one-sided gold medal in the open section. Just wow! Now, Gukesh is going to win the World Championship 🤞. I can't wait for this documentary to be released.
I really hope Chessbase team learns from this as to how to conduct an interview. In every single interview, they start with the question - how does it fell and it such a wrong place to start an interview to a chess player. You are asking someone to express an emotion which is so difficult to convey and that too to chess players who are generally camera shy!
Kudos to both for having a vision to shoot rising talents without knowing their future results. Eagerly waiting for the release.
