What is the difference between Republic and democracy?
By definition, a republic is a representative form of government that is ruled according to a charter, or constitution, and a democracy is a government that is ruled according to the will of the majority. Although these forms of government are often confused, they are quite different and the US is a republic not a democracy. That is why we vote for representation and our representation votes on laws according to the will of the population, rather than a popular vote for every single law that comes to the table. So when politicians say "threat to our democracy" they should be happy that were not a democracy, else they wouldnt have a position in government.
Step one: call it hate speech
Step two: call you hateful when you defend speech
Step three: submit your rights so you’re not hateful
Freedom of Speech only applies to Government interference, specifically "Congress shall pass no law abridging the freedom of Speech". Social Media are private companies that are not Government entities, as such Social Media can moderate content as they like. It is not a violation of 1A for social media to censor their content.
Under Obama it became legal for the US Gov't to use propaganda on its citizens. That was the moment it clicked, "I can't trust my Gov't".
I wish it had clicked when the Patriot Act was passed under Bush, however at the time I was a young US Army officer who regrettably felt at that time that it help protect Americans without the benefit of the wisdom on my part.
By the time I was able to step back and critically analyze the time and what was happening in our country between 9/11 - Obamas years, we as a country were already eroding our rights beyond repair.
There is over 100 years of the government using propaganda on its citizens. Dates to at least WW1 and the rise of our interventionism.
The government has been paying journalists, jailing folks for thought crimes etc.
This fire in a crowded theatre case for example dates from 1918 when anti draft protestors were arrested. The government claimed that they were essentially traitors rebelling against the government. They also had paid agents in the media that reiterated this, but the ones that weren't paid were afraid to disagree, because they too could get arrested for treasonous activities.
The Creel Committe under Woodrow Wilson was the first officially sanctioned government propaganda agency. Ronald Reagan had the Office of Public Diplomacy. It didn't start with Obama

That's a civil case. Misinformation is not illegal. It is protected.

The actual statement in the Supreme Court case is 'Free speech would not protect a man FALSELY shouting fire in a theater AND CAUSING A PANIC' . In other words, the Supreme court case highlighted that 1A may not protect yelling fire IF it's done falsely (knowing that there is no fire) AND it incites violence.
And this - intentionally making false claims - isn't 'misinformation'. It's 'disinformation'.
When bringing up the Schenck case, Robbie omits the 'false' and 'causing a panic' elements and sets up a logical fallacy by claiming Walz said 1A doesn't protect MISINFORMATION. In truth, Walz said that 1A limits DISINFORMATION.

@@jessicadavid5661 Bri is a progressive, I don't know if you are aware of this, but socialists, progressives, and neoliberals are not the same. Democrats primarily neoliberal. The S&P despise the dems because while they might appear to share similar social views, the dems are economically unaligned with the S&P for the most part. Those on the left distinguish themselves from the S&P calling them “leftists” while the majority of Democrats call themselves “liberals”.
Progressives have always reluctantly supported the Democrats (neoliberals) as the “lesser of the two evils.”
Krystal Ball did an excellent radar critiquing SJWs & woke identity politics back when she was on The Hill during the 2020 election cycle. It's a must-watch for anyone who wants to understand “The Left”, IMHO.
