    My daughter who has a legitimate disability and has had DAS for many years has been denied. She was told to go sit on a bench and a cast member would come get her and reunite her with the family that has waited in line. The family has made reservations for Universal with her disability already approved.

    My issue is the inconsistency in the approvals. My son fits exactly what das would be designed for and have used without issue for years. We got rejected because the person doing interviews said since we had two adults and three kids we could just use rider swap. It sounded like this evaluator would reject any condition if there were at least two adults who could rider swap. On same trip a family member who has kid who is more functional but still deserving of das was approved and they had literally no issues and were shocked we got told no.

The problem is Disney is setting themselves up for a huge problem that’s will make them look bad in the long run. • @dancingshig

      @independentlyblind5816 absolutely true. Excluding people with physical disabilities is stupid. People that require a walker need to rest their arms, same with cane users. While not common, people with service dogs don't need to be stuck in a long queue asking people to leave their medical equipment alone for an hour. The ADA states reasonable accommodation, and the new DAS system excluding most disabled persons is not reasonable. Ban the abusers, but don't punish everyone else that need a modification to enjoy their experience. It's a good way to continue to loose ticket sales, that's for sure. Then how will they pay for the coming discrimination/ civil rights law suits?

    I will be 70 in September and became a DVC member in 2010 when I learned about DAS.
    Every trip I have taken since Lightening Lane started, our family has purchased it AND Individual LL- and I had DAS. I own my scooter and it flies with me. I cannot ride in a wheelchair because I have been “thrown” out of them multiple times by accident and therefore have actual panic attacks when forced to ride in one. Just 2 weeks ago, while visiting the White House, my family member hit a curb at an angle and it flipped the wheelchair into a busy intersection.
    Anyway- if a regular queue requires transfer to wheelchair and I cannot get DAS, then I cannot participate in that attraction.
    Also it is not fair that my family members have to push me and they then loose the ability to enjoy the attraction.
    We have never abused the DAS and I have been using it since 2010.
    I told my family our last trip is now officially MY LAST trip, without DAS in the future, I give up.

      Having said that, I'm also in need of a scooter these days, and I went recently (May) and most rides accommodated the scooter. I think you'll be fine to visit if the scooter is your only issue! No go at Universal, though. Couldn't take the scooter inside a single ride que.

    These changes may help lightning lane, but as someone with a visual disability they really concern me. Many of the line areas once you get into these rides are dark and winding. I went once without the DAS (because I didn't know it existed) and it was an absolute nightmare for me to navigate them. There were too many people for the person helping me to be at my side and guiding me. When I went with the DAS I was able to move without fear of injury in the shorter and less winding line paths, where my helper was able to be at my side. I'm really worried if and when I return to the parks I'll be forced into a situation where I could be injured because what vision I do have is dramatically impacted by lack of light.

    The shorter lines are probably because people who needed DAS (and were denied) are no longer going. Disney made a huge mistake with this choices and will end up losing money. Currently at WDW and it’s almost 4th of July which is the peak of summer season for WDW. We don’t buy Genie+ or LL because we’d rather spend the money elsewhere. Have to say, while standby lines aren’t great, they’re not intolerable either. Most of the E-ticket rides are between 30-60 minutes in the standby.
    I’ll get a lot of hate for this, but I’m personally glad they cracked down on DAS. It needed to be done. Last time we were here was during Covid before they implemented LL and Genie+ but after they did away with FP+. So essentially the only people using FP line was supposed to be DAS people. I kid you not, there was a huge steady stream of people going through that line. I counted the ratio at slinky dog. They were letting in 3:1 DAS. Meaning 30% of the people riding the ride were claiming DAS. Thats total abuse. And that’s BEFORE we had to start paying for it.

      @bloodflow82 - I believe that DAS was, and is, intended to fail, just like the selection of Chapek was intended to fail. DAS is the "fall guy". When Disney gets sued successfully, they will end DAS by saying "Well, we tried", and recommend Genie+ instead (at an extra cost). No more doctors, or cast members pretending to be doctors. Just stand in the Genie+ lane or the standby lane (if you can't afford Genie+). I'm not saying it's "fair", but this is how people like Iger think. • @survivaloptions4999

    I'm not sure how what they are claiming can be mathematically possible. If there are 50 people each in 2 lines or there are 90 people in one line and 10 in the other, there are 100 people no matter what. There should only be a significant wait time difference between the two lines if riders were immediately going back to the Lightning Lane.
    What further confounds their version of the story is that there was a nearly year long period where Fastpass/Lightning Lane was not available, but DAS was (with some months breaking attendance records under Chapek), yet somehow the wait times were shorter. The problem started when Lightning Lane started.
    So it worked during the period when DAS and Fast Pass were available, and it worked when only DAS was available, but it didn't work when both DAS and Lightning Lane were available, so obviously the problem is DAS. Also the same number of people move faster when you push them into one line. Got it.
    Disney lies. We know this. Of course they are going to say it's a success, but since they get to define "success" they will just make it mean whatever they need it to mean.

  • @Mike__B
    @Mike__B 2 месяца назад +6

    You know what would reduce "abuse" of the system? Disney not having so many LL reservations for rides in the first place. The last time I was at a Disney park was about 2 years ago, and I had seen enough of what LL did with incredibly short (physically) lines that would be 20 minute waits in the past with even with Fastpass that took two to three times longer due to the Lightning Lane. I counted how many LL people they let through versus standby at the merge points, at it was always at least 5 to 1 in some cases 10 to 1. Back in the day of FP, I never saw that many FP people be put on for every standby guest, in fact I would almost say the ratios were flipped back then. I mean the fact alone that you can have LL start to backup means they are giving out too damn many LL reservations whether through Genie+ or for individual rides.
    The unfortunate thing though, is Pandora's box is already open, Disney is making way too much money from this system, they're never going to pull back, the fact at Disneyland they added a LL to Pirates, a ride that would gobble up people and absolutely does not need a LL, because they closed Haunted Mansion down for refurb/build because it would be "unfair" to people who paid for Genie+ if they didn't have as many options. That's basically why I won't go back, has nothing to do with wokeness, or screwing up rides, it's Lightning Lane has made that park unbearable. And before people say "well other parks have it", yeah they do and it cost like $80 on a SLOW day, and on busy days it very well could cost as much as another day's ticket. Disney is, and this has probably never been uttered in history, just too damn cheap.

    • @Mike__B
      @Mike__B 2 месяца назад

      @user-li2yv5je5e There can't be more fakers than slots, because the slots are available line skips on a ride, and if those have been used up for a particular time, then there are no more available for that time and if they want to skip they have to wait to later in the day, or not at all if there are no more available line skips for the whole day. There are many more people out there than you think who have issues unseen to the eye. ASD can be only one of them (not all ppl with ASD have melt downs). Many other people have joint issues, nervous system issues, gut issues. Can you imagine now having to stand in a sometimes 2+ hours with the risk of crapping your pants. I do agree that many people have abused this disable system, because these people have now made it harder for people that truly are disability to be able to use the system. There has to be another way for people that have disability to be able to still use the system without being turned away. One way was that this person would have to provide a doctor note from a true doctor, that can be proven. It is a true legal doctor that this person does have disabilities and cannot do whatever for long period of time. This is just one idea that can still make it easier for people that truly do have the disability that truly cannot stand in a line. Long period of time to be able to bypass the system to maybe come back in an hour or whatever to get the ride. Plus in hopes that it would prevent people that are lying that they have disabilities to keep from using abusing the system. Disney has messed this big time by having to pay for these fast passes and pay for Genie plus to get them. People do not have that kind of money that they are asking upon paying to get into the park paying for the food paying to stay there, has become true greedy, and trying to make so much money in a fast way. so in my eyes, Disney has cost this to happen and should be held reliable for it too.

Since you have to have your trip booked before you can see about getting a DAS pass I want to know if I can get a full refund if I am not granted DAS. That is the only way I could go to Disneyland.

    Went November 2021 before Genie+ rolled out at Disneyland and the lines had pretty decent wait times without Lightning Lanes (except Peter Pan, which was its usual 40 minutes). I rode Big Thunder when they were using the extended rope queue but the app showed a not bad wait time and I didn’t feel like rolling up to the exit for a return time because I felt like I could handle being on my feet for it and honestly the line kept moving a decent pace. I may have only waited 20 minutes but it didn’t feel long because there no pauses for Fastpass/Lightning Lane and the ADA groups are loaded into a few specific rows on the trains that load on the right platform at an interval and not every single train

    For about 10 years or more Disneyland would let anyone use the handicap access without any question. This includes vehicles arriving at the Disneyland Park that would ask for the special up front parking that had limited disability spots when arriving at Disneyland. Annual pass holders and families with strollers were the most recognized. Once the word got around about the free for all, people were taking advantage of this no questioned asked policy. I was leaving Disneyland on the tram and the special van that is supposed to be used for the DAS had a line of seven to ten people with strollers. This was a common scene at the trams. This problem we now have with the DAS is completely Disneyland's doing.

      Of course, fast pass used to be free. Now, it's not. Disney has an incentive to turn these disabled "freeloaders" into profitable, Genie+ paying customers. DAS will get ruled against in court, then Iger will end it, saying "it's the court's fault". The disabled will have no choice but to buy Genie+ at that point. I know it's evil, but that's how Iger thinks. Disney is Iger's "Game of Thrones", and he's the scheming King.

    That's crazy. I don't understand why people even go to parks that give you times that long. My limit is probably 30 minutes. But when you can go to smaller places that are cheaper with less lines, why would you go to a place like Disney in the first place? That just seems insane to me. For me, my idea of a vacation is getting a hotel with an indoor water park. You're dealing with hundreds of dollars for that, instead of thousands! And there is no line, you don't have to leave to get food, if you get tired go to your hotel and lay down. It's nice. :)

    • @TerryKitts
      @TerryKitts 2 месяца назад +1

      If I'm spending that much money, I'd rather go on a cruise than a theme park. The experience is as lively or chill as you want it to be, the food is better than the parks. If you drink too much, your cabin is just steps away. There's gambling (except for Disney lines), and onboard shopping. Or just chill on the deck, by the pool, or in the pool - it's your choice. Disney parks are WAY too controlling today, demanding reservations for everything in advance. I'm more the spontaneous type, doing what I want, when I want. Fun !

    From interacting with other disabled people in various groups, most disabled people are choosing to no longer go to Disney since many of us who NEED DAS no longer will qualify for it. My adult son who is Autistic no longer qualifies. I with my PTSD, MCS, and other conditions, no longer qualify. Despite the fact that we SHOULD be able to qualify based on their own website.
    So, the new system has essentially eliminated not those who abused the system, but those who NEED it, instead.

      Funny thing is that is not true and you would not want to live like this. I am neurodivergent and have a cognitive disability. I am also physically disabled but with 3 (not 1 or 2) invisible disabilities. I was denied and told to do rider swap or leave line and return if I needed restroom. That would not work for me since I do solo trips. I was then told to buy Genie + for the rides to be "reserved" but don't feel the need to spend more when I already spent for add-ons for trip. So what did I do, cancel the reservations I could and adjusted my current one (2 separate trips of 5 and 7 days) so I don't loose so much money) and to include just the basics for the one I can't. Cancelled DDP, cancelled the tour I was going to do, and cancelled all the nighttime experiences - dessert party for HEA, Spice road for Luminous, and the Fantasmic meal for reservations. I know they can afford to take the hit on this, but my money will be better spent at other places that don't think I am faking. By the way, I would gladly not be in this position with all the invisible things that cause my life to already be difficult. But I also would not wish what I go through on anyone.

I have not applied to DAS yet. I have to wait till Oct. I think if they are going to deny most people now they should at least allow us to apply when we are booking our vacations so we can plan on what we are going to do and can cancel our trip and just go to Universal instead... cause by 30 days most things are locked in. I know das has helped my son soo much and I know most of us would rather we just switch to Universal system were we need to show documentation. I can happily show all the document from his Dr and his IEP.

    Wrong, DAS at Disneyland was never available for persons with mobility issues. It was only for cognitive disabilities or severe functional disabilities that made it impossible for them to wait in lines. It WAS NOT for persons who had difficulties waiting in lines due to mobility issues. I know, I am partially disabled and had applied for DAS both before and after the changes, and was denied as I was not in the intended population. For persons like me, the method of access was to go to the handicap entrance to a ride and request a return time. Then I would be provided with a time that approximated my wait time as if I had waited in stand by. This shoots down your theory that my use of handicap access was causing an increase in the stand by wait time. Im getting tired of these hack videos that are using fake instances and incorrect information to create interest in your channel, and end up vilifying the disabled. I have had a guest be physically aggressive with me for using a handicap return time, and this kind of “reporting” emboldens that kind of behavior by making it sound like we have been cheating the system. And it fails to point out areas where Disney actually fails to address the needs of the disabled guest population. This video is a HUGE disservice.

    The new system sucks my wife and I both are both disabled we have been declared that way by medical doctors we can’t wait in long lines , we can’t wait in the heat and we are both in our sixty’s and on top of that I have ptsd from military service so being stuffed in heavy crowded lines really doesn’t work for me , so I could understand if Disney said we need a medical doctor to give something saying so that would be fully understandable but for Disney to have the power to say your not disabled when everyone else says you are is wrong , they are definitely not following American Disability Act laws and I guess I’m done going

      Sorry, there is "disabled", and there is "DAS disabled". You're not "DAS disabled"... no mouse for you 🚫! Seriously, DAS is more to do with mental disability than physical disability, hence the confusion. Iger created "DAS" to fail in court, so he can eliminate DAS to comply with the court decision, without being crucified by social media "Hey, it's the court's fault". The replacement? Just buy a Genie+ to avoid the standby line (at an extra cost). Freeloading DAS guests changed into extra profits for Disney. "Mission accomplished".
