  • This section of Isaiah, like the preceding one, reflects on the Servant’s words. Here the emphasis is on the expectations of those who will listen to the Servant as well as encouragement to those followers of righteousness.
The theme of the servant is going to continue to build till chapter 53.
The prophet Isaiah sees the suffering and rejection of God’s provision of sending His son to die for the sins of mankind.
We see that Israel has a place in the past, but also in the future with God.
These prophecies in this section are such a clear description of what happened to Christ in His rejection and suffering and death, it is thought, by some late dating critics, they were written after they happened - rather than 600 years before they happened.
The Servant, the Lord Jesus Christ that we have been reading about is calling to the nation of Israel, to His people and He has told them to trust in His Name in that last chapter and He is calling them to listen.
God still has a plan for them just as much as He has a purpose for the church and for you and me. God has not set them aside permanently.
The chapter divides up like this:1. (1-3) Listen: The LORD’s past faithfulness is a promise of future blessing.
2.. (4-6) Listen: The LORD’s salvation and righteousness are forever.
    3. (7-8) Listen: Fear God, not man.
    4. (9-16) Wake up to the power and greatness of the LORD.
    5. (17-23) Wake up to the reality of God’s wrath.
