Or the games data on a second 2TB M.2 drive that is not bitlocker encrypted and not connected directly to the CPU with the lane, but via x4 to the chipset ?

    I have the 9900k with a msi z390 godlike motherboard with 4 pcie gen 3 slots and I have 3 nvme 970 evo plus 2 of them are 2tb each and one 250 gb and 2 sata ssd 1tb each 860 evo, my motherboard came with an additional expansion card for the pcie gen 3 to add 2 more nvme. I could have a total of 5 nvme as well as 2 sata ssds to go along on my motherboard if I wanted to. I might consider it if 6.25 tb is not enough storage by adding 2 more nvme 970 evo plus at 2tb each with (10.25 tb) to be determined. I thought about having two 2080 ti's for 4k but I decided to stick with one 2080 ti since I wanted to game at native 4k with rtx on but dlss off and ray tracing does not support nv link that's why I decided to stick with one 2080 ti. At one point I was considering an rtx titan or an even a 2080 ti kingpin but I don't have liquid nitrogen. My motherboard has an overclocking knob for overclocking to 5.7 ghz. I decided to get an evga 2080 ti ftw 3 instead since I'm not gonna be doing alot of benchmarking or going for breaking records. This is gonna be an extreme overkill, but I wish cpus could overclock to 10ghz, gpus at 10ghz and ram at 10ghz. I hope in the future that graphics for games would be so detailed and lifelike and advanced that it would be hard to tell a difference between a video game graphics and watching movies in 4k with lots of details, colors and hdr. Basically it would be interesting if games were made in 4k like having movies on a 4k uhd disc uncompressed. They would take tons of data and storage but the graphics would be insane and so immersive.

    Can you please explain? I’ve been told m.2’s share the gpu x16 slot & makes it a x8?
    I’m in the process of picking parts for my new pc build. I’m getting a 4090 so I don’t want the m.2s sharing that x16 gpu slot. If there is a video explaining it can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks

I'm also having issues trying to update the bios via the usb bios flashback feature. Does anyone have any tips on how to enable the m

    Please, any help is greatly appreciated as this is my personal rig and its been down for days as i was waiting for the mobo to be delivered (old mobo went bad).

  • @johndoh5182
    @johndoh5182 3 года назад +1

    For the boards where all 3 NVMe drives can run even with 10th gen, they all go through the chipset, as stated, AND because it's 10th gen they all run PCIe gen3, and I assume those boards have DMI 3.0 with 8 lanes which means you get 8GB/s between the chipset and CPU, total.
    With 11th gen, you get much better conductivity.
    Or, just buy an X570 MB with either Zen 2 or Zen 3 and you get one NVMe that runs directly to the CPU, and if you buy a board with 3 NVMe ports, you have 2 more that run through the chipset, and the connection between the chipset and CPU is PCIe gen4 X4, so you get 8GB/s for those two drives that run through the chipset, total, AND as long as you use Zen2 or Zen3 you have everything running PCIe gen4.
    With the X570 boards that have 3 NVMe ports, you typically have RAID options with the drives, and the RAID can use any of the drives, and it's not drive specific, I believe. Maybe I'm wrong on that last point.

      It's a technical limitation with the PCIE 3.0 lanes in the CPU, not the motherboard. A typical Intel processor has 16X. You use 8X for your GPU, you have 8X left. You need at least a 4X for one PCIE 3.0 NVME, which means you have 4X left. So if you use that last 4X for the remaining NVME, you're out of lanes. Thus you can't put a 3rd NVME and expect it to work. You can however run the 2nd and 3rd NVMEs at 2X each, but that seriously gimps their performance and is not worth it.
      That's why X series was introduced, and is not new. They have 24 or more PCIE lanes, thus you can run a GPU, and 3 NVME drives at full speeds without issue. But obviously you gotta pay more.

      I thought the same until I tried both back to back in the same system. I get higher boost clock speeds and lower Temps with my 11900k than I did with my 10900k with nearly identical performance. With the exception that the 10900k is a little better when all the cores and threads can be properly utilized but the single core speed of the 11900k is substantially faster than my 10900k. So things like desktop usage, opening programs and playing games that can't take full advantage of all the cores are much better on the 11900k. I ended up keeping the 11900k for my build because for me it gave the best performance for my use case and I can use Gen 4 NVMe drives also. My 10900k is still a great CPU for its use case but I personally like the 11th Gen better.

Lian Li Uni fans set to 800rpm and the system is very quiet like I wanted. My 11900k CPU temps while gaming is between 45-55c and a max of 78c with Prime95 load. I've been using EK waterblocks for years but tried the Corsair this time and I won't be going back to EK unless they up their game. Corsair provides several extra benefits over the EK. Core temp sits around 50c under load and memory temps are around 70c which I thought was insane to get a 30c drop on the memory. Air cooling is fine on the cards with only memory on the front of the pcb but for the 3090, I personally wouldn't want to run one at full load on air for very long.
