    Great video. Roberto is obviously obsessed with perfection, he’s an artist. You are right Paul printing digital images is amazing. I’ve only been photographing with a view to becoming as good as I can be for around 3 years now but the thrill of seeing my images in print is something else. I’ve made 2 books, ostensibly for myself and close family, the reaction from other people is mind blowing. Now my photography is planned around projects for books.

      I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed with perfection. I am however obsessed with getting the values right on a print. Perfection is so subjective. 😉

    Beautiful print! I’ve been printing platinum palladium using my bathroom as a darkroom after the sun goes down using mostly homemade equipment. I got a ways to go and some more experimenting to do to get close to that kind of quality.

    Good evening Paul, I wanted to chime in and add to the voices insisting on the value of printing. I still do some analog (35mm, aka small format), however I had long just scanned and got the inkjets done (and some Hartmann prints). For Digital, which is now 90% I never found a printing method (BW especially) I was satisfied with.
    I had long harboured a bizarre dream of platinum printing from 8x10 view cameras as the perfect way. In the spring one of your videos alerted me to the mix of modern (digital) and traditional (platinum/palladium). A full week-end with Roberto confirmed
    - yes rendition is not comparable to traditional silver print
    - would not put this in better / worse, it is simply different, the gradation of tones is deeply satisfying.
    - The work to put on this to get proper results is very involved and Roberto eased that
    It may not be for everything, but I have decided this will be the medium for a specific project where i put together 20ish seascapes. Back in Durham end Nov :)
    Then for a portrait project. in the spring of 2024
    the depth of tones is so profound when calibrated, that I am ready to say this method is borderline a mystic experience.
    And then yes, my children are concerned about all these files that will be irretrievabl and useless. Those prints make so much sense for the family portraits.
    Thank you for having given that impetus
    Patrick

    Great again Paul. This gives me the vibes to continue my process of printing, enlarging and developping film and digital. Beginning of august I started my little lab for developping negatifs, printing digital images on the epson SC P6000 and trying to start a very small community darkroom wich is called "L'Atelier de la pellicule à l'image". This means "the workshop from the negatif to an image". I'm the only one doing this here in our region (Le Lot, France).

    Gorgeous print! I am just starting to print platinum/palladium at home. I'm curious about the lighting at RJ print lab - it seems like the rooms are brightly lit, even while he's coating the paper. Do you know, is that some special lighting, or special filters on it, to not get fogging from UV from the bulbs? I'd sure love to not have to work in a safelight space 🙂

    • @paulreidphotography
      @paulreidphotography  10 месяцев назад +1

      Just make sure the bulbs aren’t UV. You can coat in the light as long as it’s not UV. Thanks so much for watching

    • @sweetwoodart640
      @sweetwoodart640 10 месяцев назад

      @@Swingkid14That is really not a bad price. Considering the cost of platinum and palladium. Most likely a test print or two and the time in getting the digital negative where it needs to be. Before judging if it is worth doing… try and find some pt/pd prints to see in person. There is nothing like it

    • @paulreidphotography
      @paulreidphotography  10 месяцев назад +1

      The platinum palladium process is done from digital files made into negatives. The whole thing is done in the light though. I have done printing on various digital media also
