    Gerry is joined by Chris from Battlefront to play through a game from the Flames of War Global D-Day Campaign.
    In the second phase of the campaign the theatre of Cherbourg opened up and the guys are playing through one of the scenarios. Chris as the American force must storm the objective and hold one uncontested at the end of his player round. Gerry as the German forces must defend or contest the objectives for 6 turns which is a tall ask given the wave of American forces rolling his way.

    The Germans started the game dug-in and gone-to-ground, you can even see the markers for both next to the units, so with them being careful they are 4+ to hit +2 for concealed and gone-to-ground and +1 for the Shermans using stabilizers, so the Shermans should have needed 7s to hit the Panzergrenadiers. Even if they weren't dug-in they were still concealed by the intervening terrain, if not out of LOS, they should still have needed 7s to be hit, if they could have even been seen. Also, the Sherman in the second turn would have needed 6s to hit for the same reason 4+ plus 2 for concealed and gone-to-ground equals 6s. The PaKs were concealed, because they are a dug-in medium gun team, so they needed 6s to be hit. Finally, with all the surviving tanks bailed or bogged, if the commander assaulted he would not have taken any defensive fire and could have captured all the tanks, because there were no active tanks in the unit.

    Nice to see a FOW bat rep but it aways surprises me how many rules the battlefront reps get wrong.

      I concur. Nice table, nice models, good attitude... many rules errors. It'll confuse the newer players in their own games, which is a shame.

      Not wrong, he didn't add 1 for his stabilizers shooting on the move. To Hit = 4, plus concealed and gone to ground +2, long range +1 and stabilizers +1 = 8+ to hit or 7+ for short range targets

      asowle I agree. It’s best to play in 6mm scale when playing a non skirmish ww2 game.

      How do you make the tanks not look like a carpark effect? Model the tanks to have dust coming out the back

    I've never played this game after watching several hundred games played on you tube it dosen't seem to matter what time period is played the players line up shoulder to shoulder from edge to edge and charge each orther like they are fighting in the horse and musket era common learn some modern combined arms tactics quit depending on the dice to bale you out for your bad tactics and see how much enjoyment you get from forceing your opponet to retreat with out rollong uandfuls of dice.

    "There's a slight problem, I've won." No you didn't. You ended it on being within 10cm, which is not enough, as you have to have started within 10cm as well. If you even get such a simple rule wrong, I don't want to know how your other games went. But there were many more mistakes made, crucial ones as well. Limited 1 for panzerfausts mean that you can use 1 panzerfaust PER PHASE. So once in shooting, AND once in defensive fire, and once EACH PHASE the close combat goes through. The German HQ was also close enough for the counter attack morale re-roll, you forgot stabilizers a few times, but even stranger is the way you handled the bocage. You know you can't look through it, right? As it is tall terrain? So unless you're within 5cm of it, LoS is blocked.

    I’ve recently got back into flames of war after waiting for the D-Day stuff, had a good game against my dad me playing my British force and him his Germans. Realised how disgusting the Daimler littlejohn is after taking out two of his 5 panthers from the side with them.

  • @petepan82

    And you have the pzfaust rules screwed up, he have 1 shot per unit per shooting opertunity, so 1 for defencive fire and 1 for an eventuall hit during assault

    Lovely terrain, pleasant people, but so many rules broken. It was a bit hard to watch in that sense. You´d think a BF rep. would know the rules a bit better.

    God i still hate how the tanks are so close to one another. Do not think i could play this game because of that

    • @NRSGuardian
      @NRSGuardian 4 года назад +1

      That's just the way a lot of people play the game, most of the people I play with try to keep their tanks and troops as spread out as possible, though it has become more prevalent in V4 with the changes to how being within command distance, and the nerfing of artillery and aircraft against tanks. It used to be if you bunched up your tanks like that you were just asking for an artillery bombardment to ruin your day.

    • @slimjim7411
      @slimjim7411 4 года назад +1

      It really depends on the player and what they are trying to achieve. At this scale however while it may look funny from a birds eye views 1" = 10' so a 2" gap between tanks is 20' and tanks in WWII didn't have GPS, the optics weren't that great, the radio's were sketchy at any distance, etc. So they kept pretty tight formations unless threatened by artillery, or aircraft. Much like the tabletop.

      Gerry mcCabe well, yes, but he have to be contesting at the start of the turn to hold an objective...

    • @onomatopoeia7505
      @onomatopoeia7505 4 года назад +3

      @Gerry mcCabe You mean outside of your panzer IVs, flak anti-tank guns and infantry? And no, to claim an objective you have to start within 10cm of an objective and end the turn within 10 without the enemy being within 10cm. Your opponent really didn't win. What a farce.

    one thing I forget I dislike rules that force you to leave 60%og your force off the battle field so your opponet can use 100% of his force to take out what ever advantage you had at the start before you get your units into the battle iys like having both arms tied behind your back you can never win like that

      With the Americans Not the Shermans have stabilizers. They can move and fire their cannon 2 times. You just get 1 + hit. Chriss had an 8 used in the first round not only 7. Grenadiers 4+ meetings, +1 long range more all 16 inches away, +2 because of cover and buried and +1 because of the stabilizers

    Clearly not using an authentic map. I used to live just up the road from Cherbourg's old railway station 8D. There was a massive fortification at the top of a nearby hill called the Fort du Roulé, which is well worth a visit and was the scene of some serious fighting.

    Nice another example of how fun flames of war is. I hope more people get involved. Just avoid the Germans, nearly every game will end like this. Play ruskies or Americans, even french and British have better records.
