Brilleaux was dying. I moved to Southend. Heard it on the news. Wrote to him via the record company. Said something like...always a great fan, so sorry to hear, thanks for the great music... Got a reply in red biro thanking me. A month later he died. I couldn't have been the only one to write. Feel good were the pulse and he was the heart beat. Rip Lee
Brilliant rhythm section - Figure & Sparko. Brilleaux mean as hell and nothing short of excellent !!! Wilko's guitar playing and sound - sharp as a razor. Great performance all round. What a band they were!
+Pete Gage , Yeh, right on the nail in every way, fantastic vocal from Lee, just the business. good to see your comment Pete, last saw you at the last ever Brilleaux celebration in the Oyster Fleet, loved your set with Sparko, Fig and Gordon, really good, Punch Drunk , superb, first got into the Feelgoods in 78, at 14, hooked ever since, shaped my whole musical life, including all the bands I`ve been in, the Best.
Totally - TBF & Sparko supported the weight of Lee & Wilko on their backs. Love how much TBF does while looking like he's just standing in for the real drummer. Him & Charlie Watts are two unsung modest drum heros that made great bands the greatest bands. I would add Neil Peart to that list, but that's another story entirely.
I have McVities to Thank for giving me the chance to listen to such great music. With 5 jaffa cake wrappers and 20p I received a tape "Rock Classics"..... Dr Feelgood, Hawkwind, Deep Purple etc..... I've still got it after 40 odd years 👍☺️
Ah.. so good. I'm now 56 and was a teenager when I saw Dr Feelgood at Cheltenham, Bristol and the Reading Festival '75. And now I'm seeing Wilko again next week, with Norm of The Blockheads. Pure deeelight, but missing the great Lee Brilleaux, RIP.
I feel cheated. I was a child in the 70's and if it didn't play on the radio I didn't know about it. For many years I've been going back through 70's music to discover what I missed and it's always great to find a gem like this band. Best rock of any decade was the 70's.
Up to 1975 British Rock bands were either arty house prog-rockers playing 15 minute songs, hard rock and heavy metal acts and glam rockers, and then Dr Feelgood turned up, stripped down, normal clothing and no bullshit. They paved the way for the immediate Punk Rock explosion just around the corner.
In a word..or two. Fuck yeah!! I was born in 76 & this blows the fucking lot of it away!! Im made up that Wilko is still doing it! This line up would PISS ALL OVER HEADLINERS AT FESTIVALS ON A SATURDAY NIGHT! Shame. THE REAL FUCKING DEAL!!
WOW these guys are pure utter magic ,,,,,,i now know why i have adored them since their beginning ,,,, pure classic exceptional punk rock is given to us xx thank you xxx lol Jane
Damn thats tight. saw wilko with ian dury, and saw the 2nd incarnation of the feelgoods both in the early 80s..mid 70s was before my time as i was in grade 5 and listening to Abba :) Luckiy i woke up to myself in highschool.. Love youtube and the ability we have to watch all this fantastic footage of old bands. Oh yeah, when I did see Feelgood I was lucky enough to buy Brilleaux a beer and have a chat after the gig, he real friendly untill some girls came up and started talking to him, then he turned around and told me to beat it -i didn't mind. I remember watching this band thikning this is the real deal..older men in suits, that could really play..hard men. lol..so much better than the punk/indy bands i was into at the time.
My Dad’s friend used to hang around with these lot down a pub in canvey island. He showed me this song, it’s what inspired me to learn guitar, but I never could get it quite like Wilko though
It was this OGWT broadcast that switched me on to them. I think we can now safely announce this, and flame proof pants on, Gypie line-up = best band With best frontman, bass + drums and most intriguing guitarists to me outside Mick Green, Jeff Beck and Michael Schenker with some others on the side too. Please, it just represents my opinion, not a flame war request.
lorenz klass this band have always been huge in my life ,they still are ,,all these reviews think the same ,,,,,such utter class,,there music is such a good nutriment to my heart and soul x play on ....
This type of music does not transcend vast continental areas like , say, stadium rock does. Therefore they were never destined to be “huge”. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
@hippriest0 yeah i know his really cool and unique technique, of flamenco style percussive strumming, i went to watch him the other week at the kendal brewery arts centre i loved it :) ill have to try work it out myself haha but thanks for the advice mate :)
+clear661 you'll get there eventually, you just have to keep hitting it with your hand now and then till it no longer hurts! once you get it you've got it
He didn't hit the strings all that hard, his string attack style was more controlled than it looked and was more like a flick. All you need to to is turn the amp up loud.....bridge pickup and loud amp, no need to be heavy handed, all that does is break strings and you never used to see Wilko break many strings 👍 It still isn't an easy sound to replicate though, even if you watch how he did it all day long 😆

You were a great successor to Lee
Drums are sounding too good!

@@Roll_the_BonesCharlie isn’t ‘unsung’ at all.

Man, Wilko's right hand was a helluva timekeeper. Precise as a metronome.
The world needs Dr Feelgood..
The world had Dr Feelgood and it didn't give a fuck!
Dumb world we live it up/survive in!
One of the best UK live bands always brought the house down... Never heard anyone say a bad word about them ..much loved band.
Ah..
Don't worry Wilko, your guitar sound will always be remembered...

I feel cheated. I was a child in the 70's and if it didn't play on the radio I didn't know about it. For many years I've been going back through 70's music to discover what I missed and it's always great to find a gem like this band. Best rock of any decade was the 70's.
I WAS THERE !!!& YOU AINT WRONG NIPPER !!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍✌👊👏g
Not saying the 70's didn't have their moments but I'll take the 60's thank you. Dr Feelgood was such a great band.
Up to 1975 British Rock bands were either arty house prog-rockers playing 15 minute songs, hard rock and heavy metal acts and glam rockers, and then Dr Feelgood turned up, stripped down, normal clothing and no bullshit. Their clothes didn't, that was more down to glam.
Brill presence especially those suits...not looking like sloppy proggers or even worse foppish glammers...even Bowie had a suit by 1974!
sadly i feel like their contribution to punk rock is largely overlooked. they were truely one of the first punk bands in everything but sound
Pure "in yer face" R & B & Rock,Nobody did it better!R.I. Wiko>P
My music w.ld b punk but always loved dr feelgood .wilko is magic .
The timing of this band is exceptional, they make it look easy but they must have done a load of rehearsing to get that good.
Fantastic band, I met them in Oxford after one of their gigs, sound bunch of guys.
The Mighty Feelgoods, never disappoint, pure R&B made to look easy
Rest in peace Wilko!!!!
WOW these guys are pure utter magic ,,,,,,i now know why i have adored them since their beginning ,,,, pure classic exceptional punk rock is given to us xx thank you xxx lol Jane
Used to see them live all the time. Totally unique, charismatic band
Terrific...this is rock'n'roll at it's leanest and meanest.....
So sleazy...incredible!

Wilko is a freakin' music machine!
Just heard the news 😥😥😥 RIP Wilko. So glad I got to see you play.
Damn thats tight. saw wilko with ian dury, and saw the 2nd incarnation of the feelgoods both in the early 80s..mid 70s was before my time as i was in grade 5 and listening to Abba :) Luckiy i woke up to myself in highschool.. Much better than the Nick Lowe version. Wilko's backhand guitar and of course Lee's inimitable vocals make it A+
One of the hardest working blue's band's from Southend. ..God bless.
best pub band ever..;-D
My Dad’s friend used to hang around with these lot down a pub in canvey island. He showed me this song, it’s what inspired me to learn guitar, but I never could get it quite like Wilko though
This is best shit i've ever heard
lol
Ok.....fair enuff!
Class band. Love Wilko's tone. Simply amazing.
RIP, Wilko, one of a kind. Such OGs. That lead singer looks like such a pub crawler who would kick your ass, or be your best mate.
Fukkin' awesome!
Always love Dr Feelgood

lorenz klass this band have always been huge in my life ,they still are ,,all these reviews think the same ,,,,,such utter class,,there music is such a good nutriment to my heart and soul x play on ....

I've been learning guitar for about 8 months now, can't imagine playing guitar that way, my hands would be all cut up.

Amazing Wilko fucking Johnson!
Sheer brilliance, what a band, unfortunately I only saw them after Wilko with Gypie.
Wilco
Gypie was no slouch either.
Excellent band - and the real precursors for Punk and New Wave. The bass player - Sparko - look like a real 70's 'Essex Boy', too!
Saw Wilko in Gloucester last night he's still crazy, but without the hair.
Yep.
Adoro está banda

@D7A4N31 The simple answer is that only Wilko knows, but search here for 'Wilko Johnson guitar lesson' . It should give you an idea of his technique.
Saw them live at Gravesend
Maior som!!
O guitarrista é um Deus
I've been trying to imitate Wilko but it's so damn hard...even with an amp you have to hit the strings really hard to get a sound.
+clear661 you'll get there eventually, you just have to keep hitting it with your hand now and then till it no longer hurts! once you get it you've got it

Tight!
Wilko you genius don't die
And he didn’t!
