Great completion to your overview of the calf catcher! Must say that I was a bit surprised in the price of them, but guess avoiding 1 strong hit to the back shoulder or head & it paid for itself. Look forward to video's of it this spring! Thanks
Perhaps a length of that plastic spiral hose wrap that is used to protect hydraulic hoses on machinery to limit abrasion might suit your purposes for that gate spring (however it may still be some what noisy) or I think you can get a fabric sleeve but this might only last a season. Have you experienced an angry mother cow try to get to / at you when using this machine and did it work OK? - it doesn't look at all battered and neither does your quad!
No angry cow yet. Main thing is you are not pinning calf to ground so he doesnt get away in the open. He doesnt feel as threatened and therefor isnt screaming which is what rials the cows up. Ill have see what i come up with to put on spring to dampen the noise
That thing sure is nifty and cool and all those people who say you aint a real cowboy are crazy because if you get hurt it is mainly only you on your farm who would do all the work im sure your dad would get tired so they have to see that part better safe than sorry! Great series man!
Used a bungee cord used on that tarp on the one I built (different design but works great spring was way to noisy) mine also has the wheels set up like the Jones Dairy ones much smother so you can catch older calves. solid single wheel was way to bumpy
Hay ring works well, I use that a lot. Just make sure you turn the hay spear down on the tractor to trap the ring against the ground or the momma can still get you!
I think if you get the cows used to it that will help we do the same with riding horses through the herd if you only ride the horses when you need to rope a calf the whole herd runs but if you ride the pen a couple times a day and you put the sneak on the calf you need to catch it works way better. I think covering the spring will help the noise. I tag all my calves and weigh the purebreds and I try to get them under 24 hrs because I can't run fast enough anymore to catch week old calves
they are one of the best invention for doing calfs we are wanting to get one here soon for are farm. due to the fact we have some down right goofy cows that try to come after u
A suggestion to the phone issue of being broke filming might want to look into a phone case called life proof case I bought one for my iPhone and a couple years ago I accidentally ran it over with my JD 2555 rolling hay and never hurt my phone not a scratch and it come with belt clips but if you do buy one buy the real deal not the knock offs

Thank you
good to hear that it work from someone who has used it.I am looking to get one for our operation.
It does take some practice but it does seem to work really good
How good dose it go together
Seems like a good design nice that it goes on and off easy.
Yes its fast on and off once you have the front bracket on 4 wheeler
Can you give an update on this? Did you use it long term?
