Hi Jessica, I was sewing when I was 10 till 13ish. Then stopped because I wanted to be 'serious' with school, spoiler -never got serious just moves to unhealthy internet hours, when I finished my O level Nationals I tried getting back to sewing but it was actually more frustrating than I remembered. I am now in A level and trying to be 'serious' with school, I can't tell how much I regret especially when I see others sewing, Do you have any tips that you could make a video on to someone planning to get back to sewing?
Wish you all the best on your craftsmanship☆☆☆

Hi! Thank you so much for sharing your story with me ♥️ I think it’s very natural to take time away from our hobbies and grow away from them and back together with them. I’d recommend aiming for what I like to call “small wins” and be sure to recognize and celebrate every single one. A small win could be as simple as purchasing a pattern you’re inspired by or piecing and cutting out a pattern. I’d also take on small projects so you can have a sort of quick satisfaction and rekindle your love for sewing. It can be really discouraging to take on a big project and either not have the time allotment for it or not have all the right skills for it yet. Taking on small projects will help you regain those skills while making smaller functional items. For example, making a lined tote bag is relatively simple, but you can learn a lot of great skills and customize it to your liking. Other small projects with great learning potential are scrunchies, little zipper/cosmetic pouches, etc. Not only are they small in size but they also take significantly less time than a garment, so you’ll gain lots of skills quickly and give you the confidence to take on bigger projects. Also it’s okay to not be in love with the craft anymore. If you find that sewing isn’t right for you, you can appreciate the craft through other peoples makes and find something that’s better suited to your liking. Maybe someday it will spark joy for you and maybe it won’t. But I think you should hold space for either road because you deserve to be happy whether you’re sewing or not ♥️
