Mike - thank you for all of your support to the electronics community - tools like LTspice and Qspice are an invaluable asset - sir I salute you

Really great stuff! I've struggled with simulation in PSPICE and LTSPICE in the past and it's great seeing a more modern, friendly, and powerful option. Thanks for making it free!! The EDA market is littered with incredibly expensive software with high maintenance costs, completely out of the reach of any but the richer companies, so it's very cool seeing something so powerful that's freely available.

Thank you very much! I appreciate all the effort that went into QSpice. For people in the comment section the software is free..... so if you need to fill up a form, YOU FILL UP A FORM or write your own simulator.

Nice work! Can hardly imagine the effort it takes to write one of these from scratch.
One nitpicky thing: For a ~modern~ simulator, it wouldn’t hurt to pick some more modern default colors. Looks a bit late 90s to me!

Great to hear that something new is being developed, but and its a big BUT - are we doing another unconventional bass awkward user interface?
Can we have nice buttons for everything, and instead of typing 'pulse 0 1 1u 1u .5m 1m' just open a window where I can set frequency, offset, amplitude in a few easy clicks?
Can we have easy to use things like voltage control switches that don't need numerous directives to set them up?
Can we have insert new component to library from file? Instead of yet another directive or editing .bjt files hidden who knows where.
Can we follow conventional user interface guidelines that EVERYONE uses.
Why does barrier for entry has to be this high?

    • @timeconomu7395

I'm gonna agree with the setting of sources, both voltage and current, I like the LT spice version of doing that. I do like the shortcuts for entering parts though!

  • @donepearce
    @donepearce Год назад +2

When you want to analyse RF circuits that have matched source and load, use AC 2V as the source instead of AC 1V. That will give you the proper insertion loss. As it stands your analyses all yield 6dB excess loss that should not be there.

The properties dialogs are replaced by a properties panel which is MUCH nicer. With the panel open, click something to see its properties then click something else to see its properties. No more opening & closing a modal dialog box that blocks your view.

The simulation speed of QSPICE looks **blistering**, Mike, fantastic! Regarding component menus: is there user option to enable/disable the menus that were accessed in LTspice by right-clicking? Perhpas this would make it easier for users to transition from LTspice to QSPICE.
@8:02 "Do not stuff" - just to say that in some dialects, such as Aussie, this means: "Do not damage/break/f**k it up/let the smoke out/" 🙂 Perhaps consider different wording, eg: Do not load (DNL), do not place (DNP)? Is it possible to customize the words used in the menus - different language options, perhaps?

Is there reason why qspice capitalize lettwr k in in values.
Si prefix for kilo is written with lower lettet k. Upper case letter K is reserved for Kelvin (written without degree simbol contrary to for example Celsius which required degree simbol bedore C)

This looks like a great program, but I was unable to install it. When I get to the install prompt, after accepting the license, it seems to start installing, but then goes to “not responding” mode. Strange. I haven’t had any issues installing other software on this machine, but I’ve tried several times with no success. I’ll try to research this, but I haven’t seen any installation issues described so far. Edit: Update; I was able to install the program today. I'm not 100% sure what happened, but I think it might be related to the fact that I use multiple desktops. I'm speculating that the install program was unable to close the File Explorer in one of the desktops that I had in use at the time. I rebooted and restarted a fresh install. This time I preemptively closed the File Explorer myself, and QSPICE was installed almost instantly. P.S. Than you very much for your work on this. So far, I am amazed with the program and I'm sure I'll get a lot of use out of it.

Why is there no direct download link? Some sketchy link is generated in the email and gmail complains about it and moves it to spam. "This message seems dangerous
It contains a suspicious link that was used to steal people's personal information. Avoid clicking links or replying with personal information."

free SW, I appreciate very much that still many people contribute to progress of whole mankind with no money as benefit. It helps a lot to students and engineers who have interest on HW development and application which might help further people find more interesting projects for mankind exploration of earth and other planets.
In the end, it all helps our mankind step forward to unpreditable Universe and find our meaning.

For what it's worth, the LTSpice UI convenience could have been replicated at a minimum. I understand your focus was on the speed, but the UI sucks and that's over 80 percent of what the users deal with in the beginning. You guys might have rushed it to meet some deadline, but the explanation about modern UI is b.s., and you should better acknowledge it and focus on that. Looking forward to a better UI.

The User Interface of QSpice is HORRIBLE. Just HORRIBLE. Feels like going back in time to the days of Windows 3.3 or (even worse) DOS.
QSpice feels like a rushed job to get it out by some artificial deadline imposed by a Qorvo bigwig.

Wow so you want to convince us that typing a bunch of parameters is easier than filling out a dialog window and then you miss a parameter. What's wrong with the dialog windows? It is so convenient to enter a bunch of parameters where you clearly see what they mean.

Programmer here. I completely agree. Mr Engelfart has done a great job of making the simulation fast, but it's a dog to use. At this point, he would be well advised to consult a specialist in user interface design.
No doubt he's proud of his interface and thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread; but he's wrong. It's not a "modern interface": People were using DOS and teletype terminals forty or fifty years ago; and we moved away from them for a reason!

Some very nice steps forward but ARRRGGG 5:25 a CATASTOPHIC UI blunder when it comes to facilitating use of directives like tran and voltage source. "this actually has a technique which I think is a little bit better it gives you a hint for the syntax underneath the area that you're typing and as _you type it fills out the form underneath_ ". The values you type in REPLACE the syntax guide, so you no longer know what the cryptic many-parameter strings mean, making it impossible tosuccessfully edit. It's difficult to overstate how horrible this is. LTSpice has forms for this purpose, and you can argue that they slowed down experts, but there was no mistaking which slot is which. A point PROMPTLY demonstrated by the mistake at 6:40. I so hate to look a gift horse (from an industry stalwart) in the mouth, but this failed feature has to be fixed so that the product can flourish in the manner it deserves!

Look at cross platform UI approaches like immediate mode GUI imGui, escape this hell of windows mfc controls toolbox. Time to move on.
