Look....... FFG, we love cool deck boxes and sleeves. Geniunely. But it's not the reason we watch presentations from game devs. Having so much time dedicated to accessories was a real bummer. New cards look great, though.
I guess I just need to come to terms with the fact that Fantasy Flight isn’t my favorite board game publisher anymore. I’ve been in denial for way too long.
Someone said FFG was going back to their origins but not even one tabletop game has been announced. 15 minutes of card games accessories and only card games expansions... I must say they haven't even dedicated a few words to say goodbye to TLOTR lcg. There´s no love in their products anymore, they just want to milk everyone's wallet with cards.
Embracer/Asmodee financial issues might be the reason behind their focus on profitability, which is sad. In the end, all the products announced are cheap to produce and belong to well-established game lines. I hope the success of Unlimited will eventually let FFG get back to creating new board/card games (would love to see a coop SW LCG, although I know that it's not going to happen any time soon). Spending half of the In-Flight Report showing again all the Gamegenic products we already know (except for a couple of new ones) has not helped either. And I like Gamegenic products a lot, don't get me wrong, but it is not what we expect from an In-Flight Report.
I would also love to see a Star Wars co-op LCG. Much as I enjoyed the Star Wars LCG, I was really gutted when they announced they'd switched it from co-op to 1v1
Oh, how the mighty have fallen... As a long-time fan of Fantasy Flight Games, it's really disheartening to see the lack of new, original products. Instead, we see only expansions on existing lines. FFG used to be the Apple of the board game industry, known for its innovation and creativity. Now, it feels like the focus is solely on Marvel, Arkham, Twilight Imperium, and Star Wars. What happened to the days of Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, and Terrinoth? Where are the unique IPs and brand-new concepts? The spirit of invention and passion seems to be missing. FFG died when Mr Petersen sold the company... He left and took the heart and sole with him.
It's deeply hilarious seeing people upset about them not having "new and innovative stuff" like "Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones" while also complaining that they're bringing out new stuff for their newer games like "Marvel and Star Wars", the latter of which isn't even a full six months old yet.
@@bluryder4186Just because i mention popular IPs doesn’t automatically mean that i want them to add expansions to existing games. Rather they have a plethora of great IPs they can create new, innovative and existing games for. Think before you post a degrading comment please.
@bluryder4186 there wasn't anything unique or new about the new products. ffg in-flight used to have a buzz around it, what "new" thing would they unveil: new IP, new board game, compelling new expansion mechanics. this just felt tired. the people posting about the sad reality are not wrong (i don't sense they are "upset"). almost 16 min of a 40 min presentation was filled by gamegenic gaming supply fluff. Marvel Champions is absolutely disappointing as a card game from FFG, that could have and should have been so much more than coop snoozefest that it is (the game needed an additional duel aspect at a minimum). Star Wars Unlimited is their big hope and even that feels tedious and boring mechanically. Regarding innovation: FFG brought dice to SW Destiny, they had a dual play format for Imperial Assault: the skirmish was actually fun coupled with the 1-5 player co-op and app support if needed. they created SW Armada for large scale ship battles as a miniature alternative to X-Wing. They had awesome competitive LCGs: Warhammer Conquest, Android:Netrunner, Game of Thrones to directly counter the uncertainty of collectible card games. Battlestar Galactica is arguably one of the greatest hidden traitor games ever. Forbidden Stars was and still is incredible strategic board game that has a very serious community keeping that uqique game alive. They figured out how to use the Star Wars IP to make a plethora of interesting minis, card, board, rpg games:xwing, armada, legion, imp assault, destiny,sw lcg, outer rim, rebellion, age of rebellion etc... I mean compared to that period, this in-flight was just embarrassing to watch. To show effort for in-house IP, they could have at least tried to make a competitive Terrinoth LCG. That would have at least sparked a little interest. Their only bright spot is SW Unlimited now for competitive games (which people do like watching and participating in competitive games) but I just can't see SW Unlimited having the same appeal for the long haul (after 6 or 7 sets) as say X-wing minis or even SW Destiny for that matter. i mean something terrible happened to their art design and direction and that is unfortunate since FFGs art was among my favorite in all games. FFG was gutted on its content and its most talented developers by outside forces, it seems like there isn't anything to get excited about anymore.
