Getting back in- Great refresher! You made it easy
Thank you for airing this videos. I am restarting the saxophone and it is intimidating after 24 years. You have done much to ease my mind and help me feel confident.
Thanks, Johnny, for this lesson. It's really a kind of improvement to make the difference of the sound..
Thanks, Johnny, for this lesson. keep up the good work
That's great, and that's why I put em up! It really is a great one that's really simple but very effective... let us know how you're coming with it down the road.
Hi Johnny. I was just checking my email when I got your heads-up on this one. Thanks so much for this gem! It's just what a beginner like myself needs to improve his playing.
The lesson you seek has already been made, you can check it on my site...it's all about proper breathing. Playing quietly is harder to do than to play loud and it takes more air control, you need to push a lot of air from your diaphragm but hold it back at the same time... sounds weird but think of a big volume knob.
I did try playing it a long time ago and taught some kids how to play it when I was giving lessons but I don't play it anymore.
Thanks for the lesson, I've been doing these myself but this helps me focus on some of the things that make a difference. Is it possible to get a lesson about how to play tenor sax quietly/softly and still stay sharp and in-tune, like on some classic 50's rhythm'n'blues style slow songs?
Johnny should you be tonguing when you go from octave to non octave note so you don't squeak?
New to the saxophone here, love your videos. Already bought your book too. I've been practicing with the octave and I don't have any problems with the notes except for the G + octave. I've gotten better with it but I still get a weird vibration sound out of the G if I'm not careful. Could this be an issue with the sax? Reed or mouthpiece? or just me? Doesn't seem like it should be so difficult to play that one note though, but I almost have to change my airflow to play that one note right.
on the sax there are some notes that cause problems. I too had it with the G when I started and my teacher told me to play it everyday for at least 20 minutes. Just the G, different embouchure, air, try different ways until you can realize how to fix it.
Ok, glad it's not just me! I've been practicing and it's getting better, but sometimes it sounds horrendous. Thanks I'll keep at it.
Saxophone, discipline and practice. Miles Davis & Marcus Miller, is that a straight alto Saxophone, gorgeous
+Johnny Ferreira I have the same problem on the g note as well but I will do as you say i will play that note for 20minutes a say after or before I play the other notes

am Samuel from Nigeria. I am an upcoming saxophonist. I have been trying to improve on my tone for some time now. Please when is the octave key meant to to pressed while playing a song? A friend told me the octave key should be pressed along with every note on the lower register of the saxophone. I need your expert opinion. Thanks
no that's totally wrong...hit the octave key on every note higher than middle C#
Please Johnny, what your setup?
