Ugh remember when Opie used to get mad at radio shows that followed a set schedule? Now he's stopping one of the funniest Jim/Ant bits (Pacino) to follow his stupid plan of playing a dumb Obama song that nobody cared about? This was when the show was playing ball with management tryong to rebound from tanking ratings on CBS by following regular radio's shitty formula. The desperation in their (Opie's) voices, forced laughter, and constant sound effects to make it seem like a crazy, funny show was hard to listen to.
imo that was a big part of Opie's problem.. he would refuse to openly acknowledge when they were no longer the clear cut #2 show throughout New York / Philly / Boston while they were splitting time between XM and FreeFM. Then he desperately tried to front like the freedom of satellite was so important to him but in reality he was still looking at everything through the lens of terrestrial radio. Always going on and on about how FM was a dead medium while insisting on running the show exactly the same way they always did except with swearing. That's about the extent he understood their newfound freedom, lol.. Would never shut the fuck up about the size of their audience vs other talk FM shows even though the satellite model is set up completely differently. For an idiot who prided himself so much on doing radio since he was 18, the business evolved and passed him by pretty goddamn fast..
