Lovely lawn and a great mower. Not only does Allett build top-quality mowers but they’re also very nice people to deal with. I bought one of their electric cylinder mowers a few years ago and am delighted with it.
looking good at 25mm, thats the height i go at. Another tip for worm casts is give them a quick blast with the hose pipe and it just washes the cast away.
A great video, I’ve ordered an Allett Kensington. I have a few spots of weed grass in my lawn. I tried roundup gel with mixed results. This week I have used roundup again but applied with a syringe, it didn’t take long but you can really attack each plant 👍🏼
@@GardenLawncareGuy yea when I cut it for the first time I think it was too short, and then the heat came, but now we've had rain it's looking way better. Thank god for my petrol mower !
Helpful video. However I have a problem that small areas of my lawn grow at a faster rate than the rest and although I mow twice a week my cylinder mower ( Rasome Marquis) just flattens these areas, so I almost feel I need both types.
This is just the video I was looking for . I usually cut with rotary at 3 inches and have purchased a Suffolk Punch 17sk . I tried a test cut , but even at the highest setting it cuts into the crown of grass . Any ideas or advice on gradually lowering the height of cut with the rotary , in order to eventually enable me to use the cylinder mower . Just not sure as to the actual process and time scale . Thanks in advance
Nice bit of kit. Do you think you will get the scarifying cartridge for it? It's interesting that on Allett's website they recommend using it about once a month during the growing season! It definitely helps keep the poa annual down with it being relatively shallow rooting.
Yeah im hoping to get a cartridge at some point - I've also been eyeing the verticutter as that will control poa too. I have noted that the roller doesn't do as well as the rotarty for cutting the seed heads off but that could also be due to wet grass being rolled down. Need to see that long term
They say to use the verticutter about once a fortnight which is a lot more often than I thought it would be used but will keep the poa annua definitely under control. One thing I have found is just use the outside 2 or 3 tines of a spring tine rake and give it a good rake and it just comes out.
I've had the same problem. It's just a matter of keeping it under control. My Einhell scarifier will sort it out in the next few weeks (maybe this weekend?) and then it's a good overseed with my recent purchase of a1 platinum Pro with ryegrass
Fun Fact: If you wear that monocle we talked about when using your Allett mower you’ll end up having the vision of Sir Patrick Moore and be able to get straighter stripes as well as seeing new solar systems during the daytime. To infinity and beyond! 👍
Garden Lawncare Guy Ha Ha. Nothing so fancy. Mines some small twig branches bound with a metal strap to a thicker branch. Was left in the shed of the first house I bought in 1992. Still going strong although the small branches get more sparse each year
Now is September what is the best way of getting ride of ants and the soil they bring to the surface. As far I have been washing the soil and eggs away the the hose. Is the a better and more effient way?
A bit late finding your review, like yourself I have been using a rotary mower but I am considering a cylinder mower. My rear lawn is probably slightly larger than yours but not flat, not uneven but the natural slope of the land, I am not a youngster so the weight is an important consideration so do you think a mower of this size could be manageable on a lawn that in percentage wise is 70% flat and 30% slightly sloping ? I notice this review is 7 months ago, with more time using the Allett is your opinion the same ? I live in Shrewsbury and getting to see an Allett at a dealer is not easy so your opinion would be appreciated, thanks
Loving your channel thanks for all of the great tips and information. I’m thinking of getting an Allett cylinder mower myself next year, your striping looks brilliant! I have read that Allett recommend emptying the grass box at around 70% full to avoid overspill as you experienced but also to prevent unbalancing the weight distribution. Will you be doing an autumn lawn care video at all?
Yeah, im covering monthly steps in this playlist which will be month by month lawncwre calendar if thats useful Lawncare Calendar: ruclips.net/p/PLE2oZRSQ2Rcn3ehAl1msgToissO03wzfs
Nice, you won't regret getting a cylinder! Double cutting will burn the stripes in even more. I will defo be getting the comb, great idea! Are you going to be back lapping the cylinder yourself going forward? Cheers
Hi Rob, yeah I need some tlc on the blade. Getting some washboarding right now. Ive got the paste and watched the allet video just need a Sunday to have a go
I’ve found many times many times that lowering the depth of cut gives you no where near the density of stripe that you get with say a 70mm length of cut. It’s just my opinion but your Bosch gave an incredible stripe unlike this !
Initially I found i noticed the weight and the manoeuvrability which is not surprising at the bosch was very very light but ive moved a few things around in the garden and got more familiar with the controls where I dont notice it as much now. The self propelling takes all the weight really its just learning the turns and transport from a to b
Hi! I’m not sure if you’re interested in another mower but I have a Rover 45 mower (it’s what Ben uses in Australia!) if you are interested! People are going crazy about them in Australia so let me know if your interested and I can get you some photos sent over!
Have not cut with it yet, only thing left to do is set up the reel to bed knife. It is overkill for my garden size and my lawn is like a rollercoaster (new build) planning an autumn levelling and overseed. So won’t see the benefits til next year. Also it is 100kg!
Steve A thanks for your advice, I was not planning on getting this at all, but got it dirt cheap. Currently refurbishing it, needs a few new parts. Will then sell it on no doubt. Either that or keep it until I can get my lawn sorted. Never say never 🤣 you are right max HOC is about 25mm I think.
Nice one! I find the bucket starts to spill even when its only half full, ends up spewing on the lawn too. Maybe the balmoral/liberty bucket design is an improved version? Probably my only criticism about the machine, oh and the deadman switch is a little awkward 👀😂 Have you got your hands on any cassettes? Been waiting over a month for mine 👀😪
Yeah i think the handle mechanism could be improved a little, i know its a different bit of kit but the ratchet thumbscrew mechanism on my spreader is alot easier and quicker to adjust. The dead man's isn't as user friendly as the bosch one was and my petrol cap design isn't as simple as I would expect. But overall these are small points for a otherwise great machine!
@@GardenLawncareGuy I was using a Honda rotary for years, and from a user perspective - the drive and blade levers were much easier to use. But overall as I'm sure you've found out; great cut eh!
Not perfectly flat no, my lawn is not flat perfect and has peaks and troughs. They aren't perfect by a long stretch but its not terrible either. Hoping to do some measurements before levelling so will show that in a vidi
6 months late, but get some of the wife’s nail polish, and on top of the grass box, Mark where the width/edges of the rollers, then you have a visual aid and you won’t over or under stripe...
Right then, who’s the saddo who down voted? Jealousy is a terrible thing and will eat you up inside. Just appreciate another’s efforts and advice, and move on🙏🏻🙏🏻😎

Thanks
Thanks for sharing your knowledge , I’ve learned that the wee lumps of soil are worm cast so I can now find out how to treat it. Great vids 👌👍
Good job! I like that you changed the editing software, no more PowerDirector watermark on the videos! Are you using a new camera as well?
Same cam does the pic look different? I just upgraded the software too and found some new features :D
Looks VERY clean at 25mm! That Afro comb idea is absolutely amazing I’ve just ordered one!

Great overview of the Allet mower!
Thanks AZlawn
Now my petrol mower is working again, I've been cutting the front at 4 inches and it looks really green. It's also grown like 3 or 4 cm in 5 days
Didn't you have soke issues with the lawn a few weeks ago? Think I remember your post, good to see it bounced back

Nice just saw that
Retire the rotary mower and stick with the cylinder mower, go lower and core aerate and level with sand. The difference in cuts is chalk and cheese.
Yes I think the cylinder will be go to on the back and rotary on the front is ill keep it longer as a constrast

Never used a ride on does it give a similar cut?
@@GardenLawncareGuy No. It's a ride on rotary mower. I have 10,000 sq ft to mow and when its 35C walking behind a cylinder mower is a real PITA.
