@Nathink they can definitely attack other things, so do the Ghost Leviathans. Both times I've gone through the lost river in my most recent playthrough the Ghost was too distracted by the fish in the area to even pay attention to me
@@poggerwhiteevery aggressive leviathan attacks other fish aswell. The only one im Not Sure aboit is the Shadow, but that could ne because there arent many fish in that cave

I've beaten the game twice and know how to deal with reapers and stuff but I'm still deeply afraid when I'm within 300m of them

Especially if you have fears that are deeply rooted to open water, deep water, marine creatures, unknown marine creatures, etc. My sister would probably shit herself. Lol. I have claustrophobia, nyctophobia and an irrational fear of being chased/followed, this game triggers them.

It kinda combines all the things humans have as a primal fear. Being underwater, darkness, creepy sounds, fear of the unknown, snake features, bug features, relentless chasing, sudden grabbing

The reaper was hands down one of the scariest video game experiences I’ve ever had. 50% of that was the sound design. My tv was up pretty high, plus it was dark in the game and in real life…I went from a cool temperate to literally dripping sweat in seconds
The sheer terror on Bricky's face and in his voice is enough to convince me this is scarier than any actual horror game that's ever been made.
Only spooky when it catches you off guard. Though with a perimeter defence system the spook factor leaves
Fear of dark + fear of death + fear of water + fear of really deep underwater + fear of unknown environment + fear of close space + fear of being alone + fear of disease + fear or failing resource management + fear of finding cute fish but having to eat it = subnautica
Not so scary either, just some weird fish with Dinosaur+Fish=Normal Leviathan. (I only hate zombies.. and ghooooossst) Do not go near ghost leviathan do not!

The brickyorchid8 one has to be the best first encounter I’ve seen yet. Thinking you’re being pestered by a little asshole only to see a goddamn reaper coming into frame…holy shit man
The reaper's are honestly so perfectly designed for a first playthrough: You've just built a seamoth and think you can go anyway or do anything, you decide to go to the ship, and then a reaper immediately comes out of nowhere, destroys your seamoth, and kills you. It humbles the player and lets them know that you can't just go anywhere, and that you still need to be careful and vigilant.
This is what happened exactly, in my first playthrough, which was 2 days ago, i know i'm late to the party, this game is perfect

9:56 Now that is a great perspective shot. The first-person camera understandably limits the scope of the creatures, but this shot makes it clear a Seamoth is basically a dog's tennis ball to the Reaper. Yikes
Gosh, Morgan's reaction is SO TRUE. XD I mean, all of them are, but I reeeeally can't blame her to be _that_ affected. Out of all of them, I _think_ she might've had the most jumpscare-worthy encounter. Bricky easily had the most cinematic one though.

I'll take a ghost over a reaper any day. Their screams aren't as terrifying and they're bioluminescent, unlike their reaper cousins who can't be seen at all in the dark.

As someone who is absolutely terrified of the ocean this thing activated something truly primal within me.
I freak out when I'm close to a very deep body of water, but still I decided to try this game now that's free for PS4.
I have to say that this was a really hard challenge...but I didn't left the game until I actually finished it and well, it kinda helped my Thalassophobia...kinda

Update: i swam around with the reaper in creative mode for a while. I let it scream in my face so that i dont shit my pants when i see it while playing the game. Today i went over to the aurora to get cyclops fragments and i was not bothered by the reaper at all. It did not scare me one bit. Somehow even left me alone. Didnt kill me. Maybe I’m lucky but people should definitely try that creative mode tip.
i'm very slightly thalassophobic and watching subnautica gameplay made me slightly less thalassophobic
Fun fact: The reaper uses the scream as a form of echolocation so if you hear it, it can see you. I say this because I thought it was funny when Ryan said it couldn't see him.
I've been playing this game for a while but 10:12 made me jump with her. I can never get over that terror of a Reaper coming from behind you even though you think it's far away... Girl, I felt your heart attack lmao. 😭 😂

He heard the scream of the leviathan and started looking around and all he saw was a normal fish which 3 seconds later was totally covered by the leviathan
He actually heard the Sand Shark and got moved by it, so he turned to look at it. The Reaper was completely silent.

Yeah I have a really hard time believing most of these people haven't seen or are aware of Reapers, especially if they have the Seamoth already.
Almost all beginners playing the game blind will go inspect the Aurora very early on, often before even having the Seaglide.
My first encounter happened at the back of the ship, I had that useless air pump and pipes because I was a noob and thought that was the way to go deeper, and I was collecting the item crates at the back of the ship grabbing batteries and waters. It was nighttime in the game and the Reaper didn't even roar, just came out of the darkness and attacked me. Biggest jump scare I've had in a game since Dead Space, nearly had a heart attack.

8:10 Creepiest clip by far. Just how the huge Reaper silently swims into view overshadowing everything, and then quickly disappears back into the dark murky water without a sound.
I'm honestly surprised the JAWS music didn't play, specifically from the part when the shark swims past the cage near the end.
It reminded me of those kind of documentaries, one animal is going nuts for food then the bigger predator comes out of the living heck nowhere.
Basically saying if: A sea-diver was being chased by a Grouper down at night, then the Shark just comes down and rips the Grouper apart and disappears back into the darkness.
It's so unsettling

I love coming back to this video. As someone who has put over 100 hours in this game, reapers scare me like no other. Ghost Leviathans' bioluminescence and Sea Dragons' size make them more predictable, and to me, less scary. Reapers really only appear in murky, open areas and I think that's what makes them so scary.

I remember watching and enjoying 8-BitRyan's Subnautica playthrough
The first time seeing the Reaper Leviathan was one of, if not the most, scariest things that I have ever encountered and experienced in any game.
When being chased by a Reaper, never flee in a straight line. Always throw a few turns in as you flee for your life. Also, throw some turds that you'll have inevitably filled your pants with as a possible decoy/deterrent.

His reaction was my favorite. He was nervous, got scared a bit by the sandshark. You can see it in his face-- he's thinking, "oh, it was only a sandshark. haha, I'm so on edge, nothing to be afraid of!" He smiles slightly to himself, going on his way. Then all of a sudden this GIANT SEA MONSTER just noms the fucking sandshark right in front of him. I have never seen someone look so shocked and horrified at the same time. It was beautiful.

I started my subnautica play through about a week ago and the ghost leviathan doesn’t even phase me anymore, it’s just a “oh that’s gonna be a headache to traverse with this guy guarding the area” but the reaper, which is much smaller I’m pretty sure, is still terrifying to me. When I’m in that area by the sea treaders path and there’s all those reapers I’m always terrified I’m gonna get tossed off the edge into the eco dead zone with my prawn and not be able to do anything about it

I remember watching this when it first came out and their reactions were here in full but I guess he was asked to remove them
I freaked when i first saw it, but i collected its scan data shortly after. Apparently, they can track you with its roar; if you can hear it, it knows where you are.
The initial shock of the reaper leviathan is scary, but the true fear is the thought of losing things like vehicles, items, etc... This is true for all scary things in subnautica.
You could save your game every 30 seconds and subnautica would still be terrifying.

I remember first hours of playing subnautica. I was frickin afraid to go 10 meters deep in the shallows. It was a very long journey to get to lava fields and I'm still pretty much scared of all the underwater noises.
This is a very humbling game.

my first attack was in the middle of the night, i was at some distance behind the aurora carefully hugging the bottom of the sea floor seeing if i could get some fragments outside of reaper territory. it was pitch black and the only visibility i had was the sandy bottom of the sea floor and the light from my seamoth i couldn't see the surface of the water at all, i went out of my seamoth to scan 1 or 2 debris after scanning my second i hopped back in to look for more, i was quite confident i was out of reaper territory since i was far back and i could hear no roars... or so i thought then suddenly i found myself losing control of my seamoth as giant claws forced me to look at the face of a giant demon in the darkness catching me completely off guard, it was my first time looking at a reaper's face, it crushed my seamoth and made me swim for dear life on a glider i remember it was so dark as i fled i thought i wasn't moving and that i was going to die for sure, then when the light streamed from the surface i finally calmed down a bit and knew i was gonna make it. no other game made me feel terror like that, i'll never forget.

I love how with the early versions, the developers were just like,

@@swoosh26 Yeah all you have to do is listen. If you can hear a cry, they are closing in and you need to head for safety. The game makes it easy to avoid the Leviathans if you are paying attention.
@@swoosh26 Only twice? I see them all the time, but I've only been grabbed and nearly killed by them once. After that you just have to keep an eye on them and as soon as they come at you, you head to other way at full speed. They never catch up.

My first encounter with the reaper leviathan was actually after I got a cyclops, I’m looking for the floating islands and I must have missed a bit but was crafting in my hall. The ship starts tilting and not thinking much of it just climb up and then it’s there just looking at me it scared the shit out of me.
