This is totally & completely FANTASTIC!!! Someone said "priceless" and that's an understatement. This unique piece of musical history is also a perfect showcase in where Rock, both modern & classical, originated - These late & great BLUES Legends, all members of the Best of Best in BLUES, though many of the Blues Artists here were way past their career's prime even here.. yet their performances are FLAWLESS - IMO I don't believe anyone can be taught the Blues because you're either born with the feeling or you're not however this gem should be used as an educational & historical piece in Music Universities and other Musical tuition institutions worldwide explaining of how the CORE of Big City Blues should be played regarding the specific type of discipline, concentration and tightness required to get it right
i agree absolutley - i'm over 50 years old but every time i hear this music i feel like twenty - i am austrian in vienna - we are used to classic (Mozart,Stauss etc.) but this is outstanding - i love this outstanding impressions in the face of lightnin hopkins - and i grab my guitar (wich one of the ten :-))

I guess everything is irony...ie there is no irony. Blues isn't music. It is coping. It is survival. And so, you wind up on the front line of a battle that is three feet in front of the stage. Don't mistake the something more for the something better. This is merely authenticity. As such, Blues is gimmick free. Thank Jim Crow for the suits. This isn't an attempt to entertain. It is survival. But, if there must be a gimmick, then on this stage, the gimmick is 100% Authenticity. 9 sting guitar! A drapery rope for a guitar strap. None of it matters. These are the forces of Nature and their effects upon ecosystems in general. Blues is instinct...the result is sincerity! Thank you for uploading this! KC

Aint it crazy that the Blues had to be introduced to America by the British groups since it wasnt being acknowledged in the States due to the color of the musicians skin ? They weren't hip to an art form born in their backyard that would sweep the world and influence generations, if that aint square, I dunno what is. It is for this reason for the sake of justice and some credit to these pioneers that I thank god for the 60s counter culture hippie generation who truly gave it its revival and carried it through its dark time through rock n' roll.
If white men hadn’t stolen black men and women’s music (Janis Joplin used Ball & Chain but she god damn asked Big Mama, not like Elvis, The Beatles and Bob Dylan ripping off Sister Rosetta and Chuck Berry licks), the sad truth is we wouldn’t have a record of it and wouldn’t have 90% or more of the music we have today. We’ve gotta be glad they had taste and glad that we have it now but it’s mad that that’s the way it worked and that these sorts of performances could’ve been lost. I wonder how many unrecorded greats there were.
In my hippie days a small group from the Chicago south side would drive to our university town and play once a month. Hound Dog Taylor and the Houserockers- I got to see a little part of history and shared a few recollections with Stephan Wade, a musicologist, at a brown bag lunch. Check out The Music All Around Us. Europe treated our black jazz musicians well, especially in Berlin and Paris.
I’m not really sure why I’ve always had a deep love and appreciation for the Blues. In most of the mainstream society I don’t see many musicians keeping the old style Chicago, Delta or even Country Blues alive. Robert Johnson,Elmore James, Muddy Waters, The Great Buddy Guy, The 3 Kings.. etc…etc… etc... What a shame! Anyway, I’ll get on with my story that I call “ One night I got lost in Mississippi”. I ended up having a shotgun pointed in my direction. The man had on an old-school Atlanta Braves cap,and was wearing a pair of worn out overalls and Rattlesnake boots … He asked me what my business was on his land ! I said “ Well sir, too be honest with you, I’m lost. I’ve been trying to find a phone. You see, my car broke down about five miles or so up the road. I headed this way because I thought I had heard music playing… The man lowered his gun, and let out the biggest deepest sounding laugh I’ve ever heard. Of course I let out a laugh too, but after a big sigh of relief.. He said “Son! Come with me and I’ll help you. I’ll get you home eventually”. It seemed as if it took forever to reach the old shed.. uh, well, i mean his homestead, his house.. I didn’t see anyone else around, and it was quiet. It was too quiet. The music I had heard, was I just imagining it? I was honestly getting nervous. That’s when he looked at me as if he could sense my fear. C’mon this way. I stood there for a few seconds. By then it was getting dark and again he said C’mon son, let’s go listen to that music you were talking about. That’s when I heard a sudden loud laughter coming from a large pavilion as we approached. Some dim lights went on and everyone said hello to me.. I felt safe again.. Then there it was… The music wasn’t just me imagining it… It was them playing .. I sat down next to some of the most talented Delta Bluesmen alive… Music and as much food as I could eat… They played, told stories and laughed until the rooster crowed… I will never forget that night! The next thing I remember is my Mom shaking my shoulder, telling me to get up for school… Best dream I’ve ever had in my life…. I just wish I could remember their names.. I only remember one guy calling his guitar Lucile and some other guy was mumbling something about Mustang Sally- True Story
I can't imagine what these men went through in life, and they express it in their music. God bless their souls!

Sonnyboy steals the show! All of these guys are sublime but he's unforgettable, there's almost an erie atmosphere about him, such presence! And what virtuosity!!!
Check out the live album that Sonny cut with the Yardbirds around this time:

Probably because he played with RJ?Well that and he's just a Far King awesome harp player.
@@darcykelly7515 There were two Sonny Boy Williamsons. The first one may have played with Robert Johnson, but this one, whose given name was Rice Miller, I don't think he played with RJ.
@@1blastman G'Day, I just rechecked on the dodgynet and found articles that say it was Sonny boy Williamson II but who knows?I know I don't know I wasn't there but I can imagine it pretty easily.I do know that I love both RJ's and SBW II's music more than most, They're right up there with Blind Willie Johnson.
@@darcykelly7515 We are in agreement about loving both RJ and SBW.
Blind Willie is in that rare air also. his call and response with his first wife, Willie B Harris in "John The Revelator" might be one of the greatest blues\gospel songs of all time.
The musicians, being so good, could tailor performance in an instant.
Lonnie Johnson always makes me think of Django because of that tone he hits with.
Amazing...These guys are off the hook...!!
This is so good it's ridiculous. Thank you so much for putting this up. Absolute masters.
This is real music 👍
This is so pure, it makes me so sad for the music of today!

This is totally & completely FANTASTIC!!! Someone said "priceless" and that's an understatement. This unique piece of musical history is also a perfect showcase in where Rock, both modern & classical, originated - These late & great BLUES Legends, all members of the Best of Best in BLUES, though many of the Blues Artists here were way past their career's prime even here.. yet their performances are FLAWLESS - IMO I don't believe anyone can be taught the Blues because you're either born with the feeling or you're not however this gem should be used as an educational & historical piece in Music Universities and other Musical tuition institutions worldwide explaining of how the CORE of Big City Blues should be played regarding the specific type of discipline, concentration and tightness required to get it right
Delta blues .

Straordinaria eccellenza 2023...
I wasn't old enough to be allowed to go to the '63 tour, but I saw the '65 and a few after, got a program for one from the DeMontfort Hall in Leicester, great memories.
Thank you, Ivan, for showcasing America's finest music.

Blues, blues, blues...so good.

What are you trying to say

This men and women talk to to the soul.
My first time seeing Sugar Pie DeSanto - wow! (wow applies to all of these artists but I was already familiar with the others)
I was about to ask who that lady was. Amazing
Sugar, pie and peewee. That was the name of her band.
The original Mick Jagger
Wonderful! I've been listening to highlights from these tours for more than 30 years, but this is the first time I have seen them. Like the two beauties in the audience at 12:08 during the Lonnie Johnson number!
Mto bom! Beautiful blues.

Una joya del blues
BRILLANTES, musica muy emocionante. MAESTROS, gran legado
I totally agree, my brother of another color.
Many people knew about blues before this. C'mon now. Brits did their thing with it. We had it for decades!
The man had on an old-school Atlanta Braves cap,and was wearing a pair of worn out overalls and Rattlesnake boots …
He asked me what my business was on his land !
