A funny thing about Typhon though, in comparison to the gods that is, is that he seemed to be completely faithful in his marriage to Echidna. But then again who would try to hit that... Probably Zeus.
Jack Griffi Echidna is actually used being depicted as with the upper body of a nymph and lower body of a serpent. Sooo yeah makes sense why he kept hitting it lol
Or posiden he couldnt keep it willy dry
Yeah Poseidon fucked a horse
"Hit me harder uncle" Zeus roared in glee. Typhon licked his lips seductively. Hermes watched on from a distance alongside Athena in confusion and disgust as Typhon's dragon and snake heads curled around Zeus's body tightly. "Let's just tell the mortals they fought, even the other gods can't look at Zeus the same anymore."
And so, 10,000 years of fucking went down in infamy as an epic mythology battle, where the gods ran in fear of Typhon's "might", and Zeus was the one who stood him down and faced his greatest enemy yet.
It's also ironic since a horrific monster like him actually manages to be the better husband and father then Zeus which should tell you something.
Gaea: Listen, boy, I'm creating you for the sole purpose of killing gods.
Typhon: Okay but first I want to get married and have a bunch of kids.
Oh yeah, pure evil.
you talk as if echidna was a caring 50s housewife and his kids were nerds who got bullied at school because how innocent and kind they were 🤣😂🤣😂
@Gitesh Mehta what
Kratos: “Only I shall kill the Gods!”
@Gitesh Mehta...they where monsters. The Chimera for example
Oh and what of Cerberus his name is spot
Meanwhile Hades is smoking weed in the underworld going "that's quite unfortunate"

HopOnTheHype this was before hades ruled the underworld
@@zrosix2240 No it wasn't, the order of things goes: Titanomachy, Giants, Typhon.
Typhon was Gaia's last attempt to avenge her children, the titans. They took up lots upon defeating the titans to randomize who gets what domains.
Typhon predates the heroes of greek myth, he's the father of them, but he comes after the other big battles against the gods themselves.
HopOnTheHype so this takes place after the Greek gods already won the war against the premortals?
"Monsters aren't born, they're made..." Feel the wrath of Mother Earth!
Yesh your write
Tardises aren't made, they're born!
Gaea was the Earth. She had a son Uranus without help. Uranus and Gaea had many children together called the Titans. Cronos being one of those and the strongest was the father to the true Olympia Gods.
Mother Nature is a concept dead sound’s short film centered on. The animated film is so fcked up, but so accurate.
Lol dint work 😂 gaia is dumb as a kite
Echidna is like that classmate from high school who dated the most creepy serial killer looking dude ever but stays because he doesnt cheat and wants to have kids
Just what I look for in a man serial killer vibes is faithful and wants kids who could ask for more 😂
A serial monogamist
This is NOT relatable😭
I find odd for Typhon to be so underrepresented in fiction, I mean, he is the perfect antagonist for every movie set in greek mythology, not poor Hades. He's also intelligent enough to be a serious threat.
Hades gets a bad rep when he was arguably more chill than any of the other Olympian gods, which were off cursing people over the smallest slight, commiting rape, and genocide on a whim.
@@Passions5555 Exactly!! Why does he have to be presented as that. Modern interpretations should ACTUALLY READ mythology and take into account CANON sources, not make up shit like Hades is evil. He isn't! He merely rules a realm and is just doing his job. He isn't even ruthless, sadistic, or cold-blooded. Modern interpretations see him similar to Lucifer, or Satan.
Dang straight!!!!
Play immoral finnix rising his the main villain there
Hades gets a lot of flak from modern christians looking at him and seeing similarities to Satan and Hell rather then the actual stories in greek mythology
Imagine how annoying it would be for someone like you who is immortal and incredibly strong get hit constantly with lightning bolt
"Okay, guys. Hermes, you pull. Athena is main tank, Ptah on heals, Zeus and Artemis? Ranged dps. Ready?"

What I like about Typhon is that he is a being who towers over Gods and Titans, while being just a monster. It is very rare to see something like that in a mythology.

Zeus is probably the only god that isn’t too fond of humans beyond having children
No we obey Yahweh and let these fools fight under our peaceful feet!
If one takes Gaia's side instead of Zeus's, Typhon can be seen as a great warrior, a lord of their cause, a tragic hero. There are ALWAYS multiple ways of looking at things.
I agree. As a matter of fact, Hesiod in his Theogonia called Typhon "the mighty god". Typhon was suppose to be the final King of the Gods, but greedy Zeus mucked that up didn't he!!
@@donaldhall7411
Zeus is an arrogant asshole.
Same with the rest of the Greek gods
Bunch of self righteous pricks that lot.
A comparison between the Ragnarök and Typhon was very interesting and I agree that they share a lot of symbolic meaning, death and rebirth of cycles and ages.
I often find that Typhon gets neglected in favour of his children who appear to have become more iconic than their father, so it‘s great to see him getting into the spotlight. :)
I think one reason why Typhon is often forgotten unlike Ragnarök is because unlike Ragnarök, TYphon failed his mission
Keep Note that in orignally Ragnarök didn't have a rebirth because it's The End and it will STAY The End. Also because the idea of rebirth is more of a christian concept which is why there's rebirth story that came from later on because of Christianity.
Side Note: The Christians used the Ragnarök advantage of that adding there was a rebirth and that's why you're here and why there's a suspicous note of All-Mighty being added in the end, all of the sudden. Also more conversions I suppose and elevating the Norse (sorta though not really) equivilant of "The Devil" which is the Jotun who brought Chaos and Famine and blah blah blah.
Hi
I would argue that Typhon’s lack of popularity was because he was only in one myth but many monsters also appeared once and are still more popular (like the Gorgons and the Hydra).
You could also argue that his defeat was pretty anticlimactic, in some of them he takes Zeus’ tendons but he’s almost always defeated when Zeus chucks his lightning bolts. It’s just strength being defeated by even more strength.
I think people way back then thought that when Mt.
Aetna erupted, they saw Zeus' lightningbolts among the smoke that made them assume he was fighting a monster which they eventually named Typhon.
These are usual occurrences among several volcanoes that had produced lightningbolts with the smoke due to extreme temperatures.
Or zeus fough typhon cuz typhon's mother said so and a mothers are important to a wee little boi.
kirby march Barcena Possible, though I doubt it. Pagan religions are all conected and the battle between the Storm Father and the Chaos Serpent is one of the most common things they share, being found all the way from Scandinavia to Japan. That means that those stories share a common ancestor many tens of thousands years older than the eruption that ended the Minoans.
yes, this lightning phenomna is common in volcanos.
pyroclastic flow is highly charged and extremely conductive; perfect for lightning.
Leonardo Marques What mount Aetna, which is in Italy, has to do with the volcanic eruption that contributed to the end of the Minoans which happened by the volcano of Thera (or Santorini nowadays)?
Echidna is the name of a gentle Australian egg laying mammal -seems unfair to be named after a fierce monster from Greek mythology but perhaps the spines on its back prompted the comparison!
Kalo Arepoh
Thank you for this whole hearted not bad comment
egg laying mammal?
Bernardo Flor -yes the echidna is an egg laying mammal or monotreme found only in Australia -there are four types of echidna -plus we have the platypus which is also a mammal that lays eggs, has a duck's bill and also has a poisonous spur on its body.
Most information I ever gotten from a RUclips comment, thanks
Are you goin to do one of Echidna? you did one of the father of the monsters it's only fair that you make one of the mother of the monsters.
Yeah there will be, it will most likely be shorter but hopefully in the next few weeks.
I too would like to hear the history of Echidna.
@Ster Burk lol yea mate theres been far too much feministic preaching of late however im still happy to hear any and all sides to a good story .let feminism fizzle itself out.
IT'S only fair. Ha ha. I remember saying that when I was 12 a lot. Life ain't fair chica. Lol
🤨 is that Sombra or Laura?
HOLD UP...I thought the Goodess Athena turned Madusa into a Gorgon.
There are a few versions, that being the most common.
That's according to a late version of the myth that seems to have just been created by the Roman Ovid who kinda had this "rebel against authority figures" attitude that extended to the gods.
In all actuality, Athena turning Medusa monstrous was a retrofitting of the myth because (even if you take Ovid's word as gospel) he would have been talking about Minerva.
I thought it was Aphrodite not Athena that turned Medusa into a Gorgon?
Yes, that's the better known version of Medusa's origin, however, regardless of if she was born a gorgon, or if Athena cursed her after the incident with Poseidon in the temple, Medusa wasn't the only gorgon, Stheno and Euryale were gorgons as well, and unlike Medusa they were born that way, they also were the daughters of Typhon and Echidna according to some versions
@@theresnothinghereatall No, Aphrodite has nothing to do with Medusa's story, it was Athena who cursed Medusa according to some versions, because she and Poseidon defiled her temple by commiting sexual acts in it, even though it was rape but it was easier to punish the mortal rather than the god
The gods love to create terrifying monsters
Typhon is the son of primordial gods which makes him even more terrifying.

I would argue against the "Typhon is Evil" concept, since he was really just trying to save the Titan people from the gods.
+Alexander McGrath
Nah. The Titans lost fair and square. Gaia was just being a bitch.
Typhon is the father of monsters...yes, he is evil. Zeus is good, and gracious, and mighty for defeating the evil scourge of Olympos!
A villain is a hero to the other side.
Olympos did nothing but cause problem. They just involved normal human in their cross fire other then that they did nothing to help humans. During the rule of Titans is was know as golden age human lived for 1000s of year and kept youthful appearance. It all ended after Olympus took control. During the rule of Titans their was no god to cause disease, plages and harvest human life. It would have been better if Titans would have won the war.
@@silverfoot6079 Zeus isn't good. The Titans were far better in rule. It was called the Golden Age for humans. When Zeus came into power, he took fire from man (because Prometheus did something) and Prometheus, being Prometheus, stole it back for them.
Zeus is evil in his own right. The Titans were FAR better in rule.
Someone can look at one monster from Greek Mythology in 5 different places and each place will tell you a slightly different story
That's because the Greeks had different stories about their monsters and Gods that contradicted each other. They adapted older stories into current views and merged older gods with new and so there are differing origin tales contradictory godly powers and attributes etc
I like to imagine that Cerberus sometimes transforms to a smaller version when he's around Hades, and acts more like a normal dog instead of a guardian for the gate of the underworld.
I love your work, keep it up :D
Can you talk next about Morpheus the greek god of dreams
Typhon's story about the control and respect of nature's forces. Not evil at all.
no Its not
on the contrary It's about chaos and just how terrifying nature can be
I mean... It's Typhon. A monster. He's obviously evil
@@thomastakesatollforthedark2231 “Ooooooo, Cerberus is a monster even though he literally is a pivotal role in the Underworld as well as being the pet of the best god in Olympus aka Hades.”
I don't know if Typon was given a chance to have a redeemable quality like the Titans or Olympian gods. He was created to destroy the gods (in the end, he lost the war). And when he was in power, he was at war. If he won, he wouldn't rule.
Maybe he would have been sent to guard over hell or the fallen Olympian Gods. Or he could have went on a rampage killing everyone on Earth.
@@StarShotz-y1s to answer your question on what would happen to him if he won.....the same fate as hecatonchiroes
@@riches3581 Typhon was made for the sole purpose to free the Titans, if Kronos tries to imprison Typhon, he would be pissed, and wage war against the Titans.
Typhon reing was short. After he ripper Zeus tendons, he trow him into a cave, and decided to go after the other gods, but they all assumed form of animals in Egypt in order to flee from him, and thus Hermes and Pan (and sometimes Apollo or some other god) were able to evade a she dragon called Delphyna (probably another name of Echidna), recover Zeus and heal him. In Dionysiaca, Typhon has a whole speech before battling Zeus, and he states that he will release Atlas and make Zeus hold the sky. And them would release the other titans. So he is redemable in this aspect, if you regard the titans as the victmins. But in the same speech he stated other horrible things. Look up Nonnus Dionysiaca chapter 2, is in there.
@@amortality999 in a speech given by Typhon in Dionysiaca chapter 2, Typhon states that he will release the Titans including "canibal Cronus", to built for him a eighty Heaven, a bigger sky than the one that exists now. So is not likely that Cronus could take the kingdom from him. Also, the cyclops and hecatoncheires that Cronus opressed became the biggest foes for him, he would not commit the same mistake again to imprison a monstrous brother.
So we need to overcome our fixation on looks, what if typhon was the good guy despite his monstrous appearance?
what if order is not really a good thing, order is stagnation chaos is dynamic.
it's interesting that in some versions Hermes is the one who saves Zeus from Typhon, as Hermes in his roman form of Mercury is heavily associated with Lugus, the celtic god of light and skill, who in irish myth is described as slaying his evil giant grandfather Balor in a similar event...
i’m impressed on how creative these gods and goddesses are in creating their monsters.

I know the word "typhoon" comes from an Asian language and means "big wind" or something like that but it could just as much refer to this fierce elemental monster of Greek mythology.
a typhoon is the name of a hurricane over in Asia
Yes -so the similarity between the two words is just a co-incidence!
Actually your right about the wind part...when typhon was defeated he released the thuellai anemoi ( wind spirits) so that’s probaly why they used typhon as “big wind” it makes since
Typhon was also a strom God hurling trees up towards the sky at Zeus. Thought to rise from the depths of Tatrus beneath Hades.

I think the gods blood in God of War should have been gold instead of red. Little known fact (I mean myth, little known myth): Gods blood was called ichor and it was gold in colour and poisonous to mortals. So killing a god would be a suicide mission since you'd be poisoned if you managed to mortally wound one.
Why not a video of the mother of all monsters

Hephaestus' forge is in the underworld/Tartarus. I don't think it is at Mount Etna. Although other versions of Typhon depict him being imprisoned in Tartarus.

The Flood will drown our gods
Break down the wall
And let another kingdom rise
The castle of Olympia
Is shaking by the storm
The King lost his crown
And now the wall is tumbling down

Funny how Typhon is deemed evil or a monster for being sent to save the world from the control of “Gods” that didn’t belong here anymore, causing destruction and chaos of their OWN by ongoing wars with each other while Gaia suffered.
What gods didn't belong there anymore?
if typhon is anything like the mythos when he shows up in immortals feynx rising he is going to be a tough sob
I like how Riordan made it so that once Poseidon joined in the fight with the other gods, Typhon was overpowered, showing that as long as the Olympians remained united, even something as powerful as Typhon could be stopped. He even put in a line saying that Kronos knew Poseidon could tip the scales.
Whereas in mythology, they all ran away like cowards, and Zeus squared off against him alone, and WON. Zeus is all you need on your side, he will make ends meet with other gods and goddesses combined.

Typhon was an metaphorical representation of the catastrophe of Atlantis, it coincided with the destruction told of Atlantis and the length of time is also coincidently accurate as well. The gods represented aspects of ournststenof being and monsters were natural events such as earthquakes and floods. Look what each God represents and it'll prove it. Athena was a Goddess born from Zeus alone, so in essence it could be argued that Zeus needed his whole self to defeat Typhon. I would argue that Athena was born from Zeus, due completely out of necessity. He had so much potential he was able to spare enough of it in order to create a loyal daughter. Athena has often acted as a shield maiden to her King.
Athena did have a mother. The first wife of Zeus called Metis. Metis was pregnant with Athena as well as another god said to one day overthrow Zeus. Zeus asked her to transform into a drop of water. He then drank her. A while later Athena popped out of his head fully formed and wearing armor. The other god said to overthrow his father never appeared.
He only did his mother's will. He was more righteous than the gods

Gaea makes no sense. She helped Cronus beat Ouranos. Helped raise Zeus and told him to get help from the Hecatoncheires and Cyclops to beat the Titans. Then she created giants from Ouranos's blood to fight the Olympians, then finally she also made Typhon and the monsters to fight the Olympians for a third time.
Why is she helping and fighting the Olympians multiple times?
It's all about her kids. She turned against Ouranos because he imprisoned the kyklopes and hekatonkheires. Then she turned against Kronos because he refused to free them. Finally, she turned against Zeus because he imprisoned most of the male titanes.
@@omniavanitas7893 Gaea still helped the Olympians to beat all her children, as she also tried to get revenge for her children against her great grand children. It almost seems Gaea actually is the overlord of all the conflicts, and practically determines the outcome of them.
@@alanguages
I guess it must be hard having so many children and wanting them all to be free regardless of what side of a war they find themselves on. In any case, that's always her motivation. Whenever she acts, it's to take revenge for her children.
@@omniavanitas7893 Presumably Ouranos and Gaia were the ones who warned Zeus about his potential son (Porus) from Metis, that Zeus would be overthrown by him. That was the reason why Zeus ate Metis as a fly, effectively becoming like his father Cronus devouring his children, well the one he viewed as a potential threat. This cycle from Gaia constantly helping and going against the rulers is confusing.
My question is how he and his wife fell in love?

His mother is Gaia and father is Tartarus. He would be half-siblings with them. He was created to defeat the Olympians and restore the Titans in rule. So if he succeeded, he could have retained a place on the earth. Or, Kronos would imprison him like the Hecatoncheires and Cyclopes (for being ugly) and Typhon would be pissed, waging war against the entirety of the Titans.
That would be a move in itself.
So Typhon was the original king of the monsters.
It might very well be that this ancient stories might have more sense if interpreted from an alchemical-hermetic standpoint (occult) where every God, Goddess and Monster represent inherent traits/parts of the human psyche-energy and every Mythical event just steps towards uncovering the real potential of the human being , which logic suggest can't be only on a psychological scale...too many cultures with recurrent iconography about getting life after death or gaining immortality. it's like it must be something to it , otherwise , why so much effort to preserve those memories of "false religions" and "useless heresy"?
I always thought of the ancient gods as representations of for example the earth (gaia) or the sky (cronus), but they are made more relatable as humanoid creatures instead of natures powers themselves. They could ofcourse also representate feelings. Love, hate etc. They are man-made in order to help us navigate in life and help understand things. Anything "unexplainable" could also be attributed to some god:D
Cronus is time not sky. Sky was his father Uranus.
I think the Mythical stories, where the versions for the great mass. i thought about it a lot. It is easier to explain science to uneducated people, if you tell it metaphorical. Or another theory if you can´t understand what is happening and everyone things you have to know what is going on, you make things up to explain it to yourself or the other people, before it kills you.
It somehow resembles the Norse worlds , when we look at Tartarus and how the Monster titans rose up to fight against Chronos, it's very similar to Jotumnheim rising up to fight with Thor, and Freinr Swallowing Odin...and how in order to achieve this the monsters, this wild force must travel up the Ygdrasil to reach Valhal. This ascenscion it's a very common trait of the ancient myths, and it always has to do with fire , If my memory doesn't fail me, it was Loki that fathered both the serpent and the wolf and he is also a fire divinity. Isn't just strange how even in the christian myth there's a serpent hanging in a tree giving the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil? Obviously this is deemed as an abomination by that whatever "fate" might be thought as , but let me underline the importance of the end result , which is mainly knowledge of something beyond "mortal rights and limits".
Athenian1: "Uummm, which city just got destroyed by the battle between Zeus and Typhon?"
Athenian2: "Sparta!"
Everyone: "YAAAY!"
Listening to your explanation, he and, to a lesser extent, Gaia, seem to be quite similar to Tiamat from Sumerian/Babylonian/Akkadian mythology.
- All three came to oppose the gods after they had defeated a great foe and had established their rule over the world. (For the Sumerian gods it was after Enki had cast a spell on Abzu and slain him in his sleep).
- Both Typhon and Tiamat were the creators of many monsters/great creatures (Tiamat created dreadful serpents and other creatures; the most notable and powerful being Kingu).
- Both Typhon and Gaia made the gods tremble in fear, with most of them being too scared to so much as face them.
- Both Typhon and Tiamat were slain primarily by one extremely alpha, powerful god. (For the Sumerian version, it was Enlil; for the Babylonian version, it was Marduk).
- Tiamat declared war on the Sumerian gods for killing her boi, Abzu; just as Gaia declared war on the Olympian Gods for defeating the Titans.
- I believe Tiamat was killed (or harmed) by a lightning bolt, just as Typhon was.
All-in-all, I found the story of Typhon to be quite similar to the Sumerian epic of creation, Enuma Elish, and so I decided to highlight some similarities I detected between the primary antagonists.
I may have gotten some facts wrong in this comment, so feel free to call me out on anything you see that is incorrect.
I have never subscribed to a channel so fast. I love this kind of shit.

But there is a myth we’re Hermes and Pan do help Zeus get his (tendons or sinews) back....read the myth! Why would he put a video on RUclips giving us false info...he obviously researched the topic before putting it on RUclips!
I’m not sure about the Athena though....I’ve only read about the Pan and Hermes myth when they help Zeus....
not saying it false its just the first I've heard of it that's all

Oh ok lol I jus had to point that out tho....
Something I don't understand. First was the Titanomachy, then the gigantomachy (were Heracles helped with poisoned arrows) and then was the battle with Thypon, right? What is the chronology?
Thypon was created after the Gigantomachy defeat but Heracles killed Gaints with poisoned arrows from the hydra that is the son of Thypon that was yet to be born? or was he born and hidden as plan B? Did the trials of Hercules happened before or after Typhon? It should be before because the Hydra was later and that would include killing the lion who was its first test. Would that mean Typhon was a playboy in secret before proclaiming himself as a titan of devastation?
The Greeks have some continuity problems in their lore.
Is your perception of the Greek continuity problem because many of those Gods often referred to as Greek actually pre date Greece as we know it today or since Homeric times. IE it's not so easy for mortal people to know how the continuity worked for mileniums before the Nation which inherited them were born. IE Gaia, Helios, Cronos, Uranos, Zeus all predate Homer and the birth of post Homeric Greece after the Trojan wars. Or so I believe.
Typhon runs amok
"Greek Avengers... Assemble!"
*[insert avengers theme]*
We're the titans really wrong for wanting to overthrow the gods? I mean history shows that the kids were pretty big jerks
