It’s a very nice place to go never been there I only live 45 miles away maybe I will go sometime,it was a very interesting video, thank you Alan for shearing it with us
Hi John. It re-opens in April. You’d need to check their website for dates and times. The behind scenes tour includes a look at the theatrical side of things as well as the steam rollers and fantasy land. Cheers🥂
Hi Alan, thank you for sharing your visit with your viewers. It looks like an interesting place to visit. Some magnificent steam engines in there and nice to see the guy playing the wonderful Wurlitzer organ........they really sound so good. Thanks again and as always stay safe, healthy and fit. Barry
Thanks very much Barry, I'm glad you liked it. I have another steam video ready to publish but I've been holding on to it for now. Take care. Cheers. Alan
Exquisite machinery! Thanks for giving us folks who will probably never get across the Pond an opportunity to see such things. Next time, if you think about it, a few shots of the identifying cards would help. I recognize tractors and steel wheeled rollers, but little else.
I'm glad you liked the video. I do take shots of the identity cards but as this is basically a narrowboat channel, I'm not sure all viewers want that level of detail. Having said that, I have another video coming up, which is about a steam pumping station and that is well labelled, so hope that will be of particular interest to you. Thanks for watching.
What a fantastic place. So beautifully done and pristine. Was just rushing through last time to send greetings so popped back to watch this properly. I love the old engines and am mad on steam trains so really a pleasure to watch. Thank you for sharing Mike 😁
@@MyNarrowboatVenture Hi Allen My name is Linda. I'm so sorry I addressed you as Mike instead of Allen. Must had a senior moment ha Please accept my apologies 😁 Have a great Sunday
Hello Alan, I stumbled upon this vlog on your visit to the Thursforal Steam Collection. A most interesting place. I have always been fascinated with steam engines and what they did for both our countries and the world. Thanks.
What ana amazing place...if ever we are in that neck of the woods we’ll certainly make sure that it’s on the to do list. Hope you had a lovely Christmas and best wishes for a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year....🍷🍷
hi alan gradually going thru all your videos on you tube yes this is a fantastic place we only live around 17 miles from thursford in the seaside resort of Cromer
Hi Graham, many thanks for supporting my channel, it is much appreciated. I was very impressed by Thursford, especially their Christmas grotto and Wonderland. And what a fantastic collection of traction engines and steam rollers. Take care, all the best Alan
Enjoyed watching your trip to Thursford ( visit that's highly recommended ) brings back many happy memories of my holidays to Norfolk, as my late father was a keen organist we would visit Thursford every year for seven years, the organist Robert Wolfe has matured as we all do with age, he was always bouncing around on his stool while playing, a very talented young man, the traction engine display has definitely improved, appears to be much better layed out, many of the fairground rides that are shown were open to the public to ride on, don't know if this option is still available, also as a youngster it brought back memories of trips to the village fair when a lot of the larger ride's where still steam powered.
Thanks Robin, I’m glad it brought back fond memories for you. I’d never been previously, so couldn’t compare what it’s like now with before. The behind the scenes tour includes a look at the theatrical side as well, which I didn’t cover in the video. Cheers
Lovely Film, Cheering to watch. Well Done, and thanks for posting. An Amazing place, A lot of Kent's Invicta Horse emblem in evidence (also seen on Dad's Army Cap badges), Aveling Barford who specialised in Road Rollers and agricultural Machinery began life in Rochester Kent and borrowed Kent's emblem. Invicta is Kent's motto, meaning "undefeated". William the Conqueror asked to come into Kent and got permission to build Castles at Dover and Rochester, Kent agreed.
Thanks Dan. It’s interesting you mention Dad’s Army as that was filmed in Thetford where Charles Burrell, traction engine makers were based. Cheers. Happy New Year Alan
Wow, Alan, Where to start?! So much to see - seems one could easily spend two days in the collection. The collection of gauges and dials, alone, are fascinating. And the music. It’s clear loving hands restored these treasures, and gentle hearts designed and decorated their home. And all this, just four minutes into the video. Your close-ups on the tractors was much appreciated. What beauties! Was also impressed by such detailed gilding of the lily with the the Christmas decorations - the time it must have taken. Thank you so much for filming and sharing this lovely video.
Thank you for your lovely comment Grace and appreciation of my efforts, this is a rather special place. They actually put on theatrical shows there, especially at Christmastime. All the very best, take care.
Hello Allen. I'm new to your channel but I do enjoy other narrow-boat programs. Having been to GB a number of times the only canal I have seen was the Bude canal in Cornwall. It's some what small and not for cruising. I do enjoy British steam trains and the like. Your channel is on the low key side which I find enjoyable. Keep up the good work and enjoy your retirement.
Hi Lory and welcome aboard. Although the channel is about narrowboating I do add in other content to give it some variation. Thanks for your good wishes, I hope you enjoy forthcoming videos. All the best Alan
Hi Alan what an amazing museum of all the great history of steam thanks for that it was enjoyable all the best happy and safe boating cheers Barry Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
Amazing machines! Mount Pleasant Iowa has an annual Old Threshers Steam festival (5 days that ends around Labor Day Holiday). They feature all manner of steam driven farming machinery. We used to live close to there and attended annually. Very interesting to see. Thanks for sharing this place Alan😊
Hi Debbie. It’s important that historic agricultural and other equipment is preserved, so am pleased to hear of these annual events. I’m a trustee of a steam powered pumping station established in 1830, so I enjoy heritage. Take care. Happy New Year.
Hi Alan Thanks for showing us around the collection . Do you know if they get the engines into steam that would be nice to see or are they all [ Resting ] which would be a shame as they really need to be worked if possible anyway Happy New Year, Soon be Spring.
Hi Ramsey. Happy New Year. My impression was that they don’t steam them but perhaps in the summer, some attend local steam rallies, I really don’t know. Cheers
