- This video takes a quick look at recording and editing automation in NS2; the similarities and differences between track automation and instrument automation, rules of thumb... and more!

Great video - clear and concise explanations. These videos really help bring the info in the manual to life. Thanks again for the great videos!
how do you ad effects to AU instrument tracks ? the manual for nanostudio 2 seems to be lacking a lot of basic info .
redbird saraceno same way as with any other instrument. All the tracks in NS2 are treated the same.
I hate it when i ask a question and i get an answer that doesn’t help me so here is some more detail if it helps:
So you add the AU Instrument (in NS2, we are not using Audiobus or aum, etc). Then, if you’re wanting to add a send effect, do it like he’s showing on these tutorials. But if you’re talking about a insert FX, that’s even easier. Just add the AU instrument as normal in NS2, then go to the mixer. Double click on the AU track from the mixer screen (whatever track has the instrument you want to effect). You’ll see “add audio Fx” on the left side. You can then select an AU effect or an internal effect to that track.
Hope this helps!
Obo Wurx Thanks for the helpful info .
redbird saraceno you got it man! NanoStudio 2 ends up really being the most user friendly with almost any feature I can really think of on iOS once you learn a very short handful of things (just my opinion but it’s been the easiest for me to pick up and the simplest to get a song down with Gadget being kind of a tie).
Don’t get discouraged, if you are looking at doing this kind of thing in the program, you are almost there to having the vast majority of features you’ll ever need figured out! Hit me up on here if you run into issues. For whatever it’s worth, I personally found Insert FX to be way easier in the beginning ( literally just like 3 clicks and you do it 2-3 times, it will be second nature just to hit the mixer tab, double click your track to add FX)
redbird saraceno Just to clarify, you double click the mixer track at the very bottom where the name of the track shows). I couldn’t remember but I just had to do it myself and works like a charm!
Does anyone know if nanostudio 2 comes with an arpeggiator like gb? I cant find it
Its pretty lame nanostudio 2 doesn’t have such a basic feature as an arpeggiator. i guess they expect everyone to use AU arpeggiators. im not really finding nanostudio 2 intuitive or easy to understand at all really.
redbird saraceno for me thats my only gripe with it personally , i have arpeggiators in the other auv3 synths that i use but for how much it packs i cant believe they wouldnt have added that. Do you know by chance how to find the key signature button in it as well?
Scott M89 yeah i agree. i dont know where the signature button is . i like nanostudio 2 in some ways but im having a difficult time finding basic settings where as the original nanostudio was really quick and easy . i guess it just takes time as its deeper than the original version . i also which the sampler had time stretch and if each track could loop independently that would be sweet, but the only multitrack type app ive found that will loop different length loops in sync like loopy looper does is Thumbjam .
Great info but how do you automate sends? Thanks.
Can i automate information from an inter app sutch as Horizon synth?
AcMa Stone Marble have the same question.....
Great tutorial. I just got NS2 and it is amazing. My only complaint is that the automation is linear and doesn't seem to allow for Bézier curves. I was truly impress they had curves in envelopes but was hoping for curves with the automation. Maybe that will.
TheAudioDabbler ive wanted boxier curves in all of my iOS daws but NONE of them have, Auria, BeatMaker, gadget (which doesn’t even have linear autoamtion only stepped!), its very frustrating I’d like to see someone do it
Ah, I hear you. Judging by your knowledge here this probably will seem obvious but you could add more control "dots" and tease out a curve from that. The more dots, the more curved. Mind you, that could be time consuming in which case you can copy/paste that possibly until/unless we get curves.
@@DimensionFlux One way of achieving square envelopes here is to enable automation snapping (shown in the video). Or just use the quantize in the note editor on the automation envelopes. May take some editing but should also give you very nice, rigid control points.
platinumaudiolab thanks I meant Bézier curves that last one was a typo haha. I see Stagelight has adjustable curves now but nanostudio is a clearer implementation
Yeah! We really like your videos about NanoStudio 2!
I will buy some more sounds in NS2 after this... Thanks!
Will there be a Piano Roll tutorial? I really want to know how you program Drums and Bass lines in Nano studio 2
Sure, I think I could probably do that at some point. Do you mean how I personally approach drum programming and basslines or just general tips?
platinumaudiolab Thanks. Both would be good. I tend to program Drums using a Step Sequencer. I realise there is no Step Sequencer in Nano Studio so I guess if I want to program in Drums I will have to use the Piano Roll/Midi Editor in Nano Studio. I never play in Drums by finger tapping on Drum Pads.
@@Stevethesearcher I see. To me the piano roll is just a more flexible step sequencer. Same ideas. Not too difficult to get into. Right now I'm focusing on NS2 specific features but the goal is to broaden out and work my way into production techniques, more general stuff. That all depends on if these videos get viewers or not. Thanks for the feedback!
Been enjoying NS2 so far but finding this feature too fiddly. All I want to do is fade out the end of my track and it's too much hard work. It's far easier, and quicker for me to export the finished tune then add a fade at the end using Audacity. Far simpler than fiddling around trying to draw a curve. Extremely unintuitive.
Is there anyway to record MIDI Fx? I managed to figure out how to get it to work (I can hear the audio) but I’m not able to record. I’m asking about MIDI Fx AUs (like Riffer, StepPolyArp, Fugue Machine etc). I’m pretty sure there must be a way to do this since it allows you to add the MIDI Fx. Just cannot figure out how to record the actual MIDI notes in the piano roll. I can hear them and it all works great - just need to know how to record! Thanks!
Your video seems to be the only video pertaining to automation!
I have a problem that I cant get pass!
I have a track that has a EQ in its insert and I am not able to automate it ..
The only thing that shows up is Vol and Pan and nothing else and no way to add anything else!
I’m just loving the workflow and man it just sounds awesome compared to bm3 and cubasis.
