@@willsimpsonphoto i mean. For video you can have Clog, that gives more latitude, more color changes potential. What about in the RAW photography files? is there anything more powerfull than the native recording process?
I use Mac so im not too familiar with PC, however, most of the time you need to run the CLOG files through an editing software first. Using Quicktime or a generic player wont be able to playback the CLOG format until it is converted into something through Premiere Pro, Final Cut or similar software.
@@mraz1017 oh for sure! LOG itself is designed to have a higher dynamic range and quality. So yes, LOG would be higher quality as picture styles have a “filter” added so to speak which reduces ranges. Like shooting a RAW photo or a Neutral Profile photo. Same concept

The sharpening does not explain difference in the picture styles, you can even set sharpness to zero on all of them and still observe the color difference. The question is what this color really depends on, and how to make pictures shot on two cameras (say, R5 and M6 mk II) have the same colors. M6II happens to have significantly different Neutral and Faithful, at list when compared on the camera internal displays.
Hello ! Thank you very much for this great video ! I have an R6 and I'm going to get into the video. If I’m using c-log 3 then I will have to install a variable nd filter. So, how many stops do you recommend for shooting in broad daylight, with average brightness (Norway in February) ? 2-5 or 6-9 stops? Thanks for your help ! Best regards ! Vanessa
its taken me a long time to come to terms with CLOG, I am definitely no expert however, the more i use it, the better I get at the color grading and I have found the grades to look way better than the profiles. But I totally agree with you, for the longest time I would shoot profiles and would have the same thought. Its only recently that I have been getting better at LOG grades to where I am happy with results.
@ oh okay thank you. that means we are facing the same problem in LOG sharpness, I like the LOG color results compared to the profile which is only 8 bit, but it really creates a dilemma because in my opinion the log sharpness results are far when compared to the profile
@@gregodwi8911 definitely is. There’s almost no sharpness. You have a to add a ton. I know davinci is a much more powerful editor with color over premiere. I have found I have to add a LUT to get it started and get the colors, white and blacks true then add color grade on top of that.

Just a tip: use the base ISO (400) or higher, if you use ISO lower than 400 when shooting Clog, your dinamic range is narrower.

Sir make a video. How to get high quality full size portrait Images with canon R5. With best colour tone.
Shoot RAW images for best color ability in editing. Editing is where you’ll need to get your colors.
Does the R5 still record in 10Bit 4.2.2 with C-Log off and picture style turned on? Or does it drop it down to 8bit 4.2.0?
I’m not 100% sure but I believe it’s still at 10bit 4.2.2. Probably an easy question to google though.
Picture styles are only for jpegs or for raw too ?
Picture styles effect the JPGs more as a raw is base info and you can change it all. A picture style will give a “preset” to your jpg photo.
Thanks, very good video!
