But this movie exists and the soundtrack is awesome.
I need to see it again some time.

@@Bauglir100 I'm referring to when it first aired in USA(2000). Back then, the internet wasn't necessarily the best, so it took longer and was more difficult to be exposed to every anime in the sense that we've been able to be for the last decade & a half. I 'may' have just transitioned to Broadband in 2000(pretty sure it was like 2001 or 2002), so you can only imagine how much of a pain it was in the 90s on Dial Up. Broadband prior to 2000 was absurdly costly, very localized, and unless you were rich, you didn't have it, here in USA.
I appreciate you for attempting to correct my own memories, however, pumpkin. :)

@@HeeroHimura Internet? Hell, I watched it on Toonami when it first aired. I was seven or eight years old at the time, and a lot of stuff from this anime stuck out to me. I remembered Verg and especially Mutio. It's a shame I never properly revisited the series until just a year ago. It's a really good show, though it's begging for some sort of follow-up or revival. Four episodes just aren't enough.

Wow. We were certainly spoiled in the 90s and 2000s, weren't we? I remember being about 6 or 7 when I first watched this. I had no idea what the hell I was looking at but it seemed cool and weird at the same time. Fast forward 9 years and I just so happen to be looking through old toonami commercials and bumpers. And there I hear this quote : " If this mission fails, we will have no future"
All of a sudden, those deep buried memories came trickling back. I had to know what it was.
I scoured the comments of that toonami bumpers video to find what it could possibly be. thanks to a wonderful commenter, I was able to track down this wonderful piece of art.
I rewatched it, with a more seasoned and understanding mindset, and can honestly say, whoever thinks anime is "just cartoons" and "cartoons are for little kids" needs to sit their ass down and watch this shit. I watched this as both a child and a young adult. And I am an honest witness that this anime is not for the ignorant. Not for someone who just wants to watch a cool fight scene or get a couple of laughs.
Its mature. Its riveting. It makes you question your morals and values.
and to top it all off, it comes with a beautiful soundtrack.
I dont like to be that guy. But Anime isnt like this nowadays. If you can find an anime that has the same moving plot and banging soundtrack like this bad boy, let me fucking know. But I'll tell you, its gonna be hard.
    We were pretty fucking spoiled.
thanks for coming to my TEDtalk.

The only two anime's that I know of that even come close to Blue Sub no.6 are Fullmetal Alchemist and Psycho-Pass. Both shows have strong morals such as what is the definition of being a human and is humanity worth a dime. I do agree that most anime made today is rather dull or overused (that's not to say that there aren't any good ones out there such as Tokyo ghoul or Death note) but when it comes to plot, morals, action and true storytelling, Blue Sub no. 6 will always be a masterpiece; especially since this was the show that got me into anime in the first place. Its sad that true anime fans and communities have never even heard of this show or recognized its greatness :(

Time to put on critic's hat. Reason why this show yet reach masterpiece level.
      - Plot is confusing. storyteller can certainly improve on the screenplay.
This single flaw being able to kill the series, re-emphasize on it's deceptive importance. What sets classic Pixar, Disney shows apart from rest.
+Atmosphere and mood, no issue with that.
+Mech design is awesome, still live up to today's standards.
+Animation quality: top class with consistant high standards.
      +CG qualtiy no issue.
+Sound track, well reason why we are here ;-)
The period when the anime was made:
80s was a period when imagination was left to run wild. You see lots of out-of-world positivity animes.
90s post bubble burst, when people realize they have to responsible for their actions.
Due to bubble burst, there were abundance of doomsday cult and messiahs.
This is literally song of the sirens!
Sensual taboo caress, sweet whispers, hypnotizing breath, alluring lullaby, journey to beautiful moon, ......with same intense danger, coldness, darkness, of the crushing abyssmal depth of ocean.

This was a time when anime was gutsy, It wasn't afraid to incorporate gaijin influences such as jazz, The Hunt For Red October, and post apocalyptic stuff. The late 2010's anime industry can learn a lot from the 90s and do something different. No more cookie cutter stuff, and just something that can rock the world such Cowboy Bebop, Blue Sub, or Macross Plus.
