The only two anime's that I know of that even come close to Blue Sub no.6 are Fullmetal Alchemist and Psycho-Pass. Makes me happy to know that a lot of people have fond memories of Blue Submarine No. 6 but habitually come back to this track like me. Long live the Toonami generation 👏🏾
20 years later, this song still hits me right in the gut. Ah, those were the days of great anime that combined action with great depth of feeling and thought. This song, and the ending of each of the OST episodes will remain locked in my memory for as long as I live.

That bongo opening is unmistakable. It can only be Toonami on right now and it's Blue Sub 6. Let's not forget the old Vegeta voice, even my parents were curious how the next show's story would go. Oh, did the planet blow up yet? Hasn't it been 5 minutes already? Well, okay so is he going to bang the mermaid or not? These were questions I didn't understand back then.
_I always wondered, why would one risk such an agonizing fate? But when I look in their eyes it's so obvious I feel foolish._ _On that sea is a horizon beyond our conception. And in its depths is a beckoning lover, more alluring than anything we could understand._
This was a time when anime was gutsy, It wasn't afraid to incorporate gaijin influences such as jazz, The Hunt For Red October, and post apocalyptic stuff. The late 2010's anime industry can learn a lot from the 90s and do something different. No more cookie cutter stuff, and just something that can rock the world such Cowboy Bebop, Blue Sub, or Macross Plus.
This show was deeper than that. It also addressed other issues like racism and genetic engineering, the plot didn't stop at just a boat full of desperate survivors. How do you live hand in hand with these new altered beings in a world where you are now a relic of a bygone age? Oh and that line from the doctor "be very careful". Still gives me chills.
I still remember the ending of the Blue Sub animation series. It left a lot of questions in my heart, with the war over, but it would take time for two species to figure out a way to learn to coexist.
"Not knowing, i am pillowed among the crags on Kamo Mountain, my wife must still be waiting for my return. 'Today, today!' each day I have waited for you, and now do they not say you are strewn with the shells of Ishi River? Love is simply a sad lament, i sing to the clouds as they pass the Ishi River."
