FILM DESCRIPTION:
Hondo Harrelson (Samuel L. Jackson) recruits Jim Street (Colin Farrell) to join an elite unit of the Los Angeles Police Department. Together they seek out more members, including tough Deke Kay (LL Cool J) and single mom Chris Sanchez (Michelle Rodriguez). The team's first big assignment is to escort crime boss Alex Montel (Olivier Martinez) to prison. It seems routine, but when Montel offers a huge reward to anyone who can break him free, criminals of various stripes step up for the prize.

I like how one guy offers $100,000,000 and suddenly a bunch of street gangs who probably hate each other decide to team up, buy a bunch of automatic long arms, at least two M72 LAWs, construct smoke grenades, steal two eighteen wheelers, and set up the whole ambush. And then it fails, probably setting back all the gangs their toughest members and hundreds of thousands of dollars.

And, in the process, they all have to do serious *hard time* in the federal pen. Maybe Montel shouldn’t have blasted his mouth off to the media about his “100 mil large” offer.
You could apply the same to Gamble and team he put together. In like two days he gets a .50 cal sniper rifle, weapons and kit for a couple friends, hires a plane and pilots, and pays off a handful of people to open or close his route.
And forget to bring a single piece of tactical gear.

Things I love about this scene:
1. Typical Hollywood non-offensive multiethnic street gangs
2. Multi-vehicle police convoy: Only three cops
3. Street gangs organized a well-planned and executed ambush with big rigs, high-capacity weapons, grenades, RPGs and LAWs; yet they’re all still just wearing their normal street clothes with no tactical gear whatsoever
4. ALL of them are dressed like a stereotypical street gang
5. Several cops died protecting a dummy
6. They even put the dummy in a little prison jump suit
What's funny is that we do see the first cop get shot, but beyond that we don't really see what the gang is shooting at or whether they actually hit anything. Yeah and it does seem like three cops stop this ambush. I guess it is a PG-13 film from 2003 so they didn't want to show too many cops getting gunned down. Though compare it to Heat where the shootout feels like a real battle that makes sense as they push to keep the cops suppressed. Heat runs into a little Hollywood territory with almost bottomless magazines and stormtrooper cops but those are minor observations for a scene that feels so real.
And a parade to top it off where the public is cheering on like if it was the 4th of July.

It's a myth that no multi-ethnic street gangs exist in America, there have been many gangs that accept members on "merit" and street credibility rather than just racial background, although it's not common and many gangs are racially exclusive.

Convoy of police cars got ambushed, yet only a team of 3 SWAT members with ARs reacted.

The dummy escort is a pretty good and genius idea. You know the high value target’s reputation and there will be plans from the enemy that will attempt to ambush the escort of the high value target. So you trick them by escorting a dummy instead of real target to foil the ambush. It’s the same as placing fake bills in an armored van to foil a heist.
The president uses this in motorcades, he has 2 dummy varients of his limo in the convoy to confuse the attackers

The Federal Bureau of Prisons used this same tactic when transporting El Chapo from the federal district he was at for his trial to the ADX in Colorado. His family and lawyer didn't know his location and there were false convoys all with BOP SORT escorts.
Despite damages and casualties, it sure brought up lackies on their knees ready for what charges are getting slapped with.

This was a super cool effect copied from "The Bourne Identity" (2002) after that, a lot of action movies use this effect to get the action going (ex. cloverfield, transformers, Paranormal Activity, etc)

I love how we are supposed to think they got fooled, but they would have been taken out even if that actually was Alec.
The one on the buildings would've been shooting the cops while they got him but once they saw the guy surrendering they made a run for it.
The whole block had the greatest plan ever, but ended up getting stung by a decoy. Major props to the LAPD for planning something like this.
