Good to go back to previous installments, with further information, that builds on the vision & workings of the area from many years ago. Always a story or two to be told from the history of areas. What you are achieving here is like a living ancestry. History is always fascinating, the good & the bad. Great work there, Kev.
I can remember playing pool in the Merseyside Super League on Sundays back in the 1980's and we always played every season in the Hangman Pub which was right by Bank Hall Station
You really did a great job on this... Once I started watching I could not stop and was a bit peeved because it was over! I think you have a good angle here as no one else is doing this and it is very interesting to know all about long lost Liverpool... Great work.
Thank you for this very interesting video,I lived round there years ago and didn't know any of this history,I knew there had been a Prison there but not how big it was,👍
Interesting follow-up, have you tried the local library for more information? Maybe they can direct you to more resources like the local town hall, research societies or historians. Back in the day Town Halls and libraries kept various historical records on microfiche readers [now computer I guess], among other materials like blueprints that might be made available to researchers by invitation/request (mostly for free back then). Sometimes a library that had shut down moved their achieves to other libraries or historical preservation societies. Liverpool is proud to be rich in history I am sure if you persevere this may open another door for your channel. Perhaps a subscriber knows a librarian/researcher that could help? Great vid Kev, I am intrigued so keep digging.👍
I was born in leven St. 1961 my Mum who is 89yr. lived in the same house since she was a toddler. I'm going ask her about the prison. Great content Kev, I find this very interesting. Cheers mate 👍
As a kid and im 63 now we used to play at the back of the factory ..there was a moat which the locals called the devils dyke which run parallel with the bowling green and the back of the factory ,,the pub was called the sessions
You should have a look around Walton Park Cemetery, it's where they mostly buried people from the workhouse which was not far from there and still standing. It's flats now though, I personally wouldn't live in one.
The actual place where they used to do the public hangings in kirkdale was on the field directly facing the police station on Stanley road which is now the football fields
Cuppo if I find the books my dad had I'll let you know it was people who was hung there on record and their crimes as for the medlock we was told the same that the hangman stayed there when he was here and in the cellar there are still door numbers over the doors always scared the shit out of me going for Ice 😂😂
I've been trying to research Kirkdale Gaol for years and couldn't find anything, made up you've uploaded this. I'm really curious about the orphanage as well
My house would be displaying a for sale sign if I lived there & watched this video. As you know old Father Carney performed Mass and blessings for families around there, if only he was still here to speak to you what stories he could tell.Another Great video Kev ,so enjoyable & great to see you with Billy Moore 👏
Pierpoint was the fastest hangman he traveled all over believe he hung Ruth Ellis and a lot of others.he is from Manchester. He may have covered kirkdale there is a book written about him may have some info in it.
Really enjoyed that history of Kirkdale though I did watch them back to front. I like the city history so keep up the good work xx
Why not travel to Liverpool Central Library it has all the maps of Liverpool from early times.
That may be helpful.
