    I am really glad Kelce said that if the roles had been reversed and the Chiefs had had the ball first and won the AFC Championship game, very few people would have complained that Brady should have touched the ball as well. We only really heard that argument twice and both times were after the Patriots won: Superbowl 51 and the latest AFC Championship game. I understand the excitement that someone like Mahomes bring to the game and enjoy watching him play. It would have been nice to see what he could have done in OT but rules are the rules and we've seen in the NFC Championship game that they work. The defense did its job and gave the ball back to the Rams' offense.

    • @tomgow5305
      @tomgow5305 5 лет назад +5

      Habiba personally I think they should of changed since I move been a fan of the nfl. Brady has won 6/9 play off overtime games and won the toss in every single one, he always has the chance. And just because 1 game doesn’t get affected by it does not mean they are fair or work. This rule and the penalties calls are something that has to change this off season

    • @HereAndNowWithHabiba
      @HereAndNowWithHabiba 5 лет назад +5

      @@tomgow5305 I hear you and there is probably a way to make things seem fairer if the league determines that the current rules are unfair. However, the numbers show that teams that win the toss win at a 50% rate or so. Also, there aren't that many playoff games that end up in OT, aren't they? Anyway, my initial point was that this particular criticism of the rule only seems to arise when the Patriots win, especially of the opposing QB plays an exciting brand of football.

    • @brandonthompson9659
      @brandonthompson9659 5 лет назад +3

      The reason it doesn't seem fair is because everyone knows the Chiefs team was built around the offense. Defense was a second thought. We all knew this going into the season, we spent all our money on Offense, did nothing to fix the defense. And that should be a viable option, if that's the way the GM wants to build the team. And it worked all season long and throughout the postseason, until it came down to a friggin coin flip in OT. The best TEAM should win the game, TEAM consists of Offense and Defense, so both sides of the TEAM should see the field in OT.

      I'm going to take Travis' side here. The "romance" of sudden death -- that the game can end on any given play -- is overblown. I still like what FIFA does in the World Cup. Play the overtime period to completion. If the first team uses seven minutes to drive to a TD, then at least the other team gets eight minutes to take its shot, and even if the second team has a three-and-out, as long as there's time on the clock, it has a chance to get the ball back.

    Personally, I think the OT rules are fine, but if they were to be changed, I would advocate for:
    1. The time period to be extended back to 15 minutes, as ties suck. Also, if one team has a run-heavy drive culminating in a field-goal, the other team is essentially penalized for no reason by a short-clock (which seems counterproductive to me, since the format was literally just changed to avoid game-winning, first-drive field goals). Believe this was shown to an extent in the 2nd cowboys-eagles game.
    2. Both teams are assured a possession, but if the first team scores a touchdown, the second HAS to go for two if they score one as well. Thus, any touchdown essentially caps the OT period at 2 possessions, since if the first team kicks a field goal or doesn't score, then the current, normal rules apply and the second team wins with a td regardless.

    If Kansas City won that coin toss and the game, no one would be complaining that Brady didn't get another shot, or that the rules are stupid and unfair. Don't act like it's not true. Eisen is also completely right. Defense should be thrown under the bus. They know what the rules are and have been for I don't know how long, and if they can't turn the ball back over to their offense that's on them. Not. The. Rules. Be like Kelce here. Accept responsibility. Don't make excuses. It makes you look bad. Also, if you adopt college OT rules, games could go on for twice as long causing players to get fatigued and would likely cause increased risk of injury. Do you really want that for your team who is one game away from possibly going to the Super Bowl? Do you really want to risk injury to your starters? I think that probably has something to with OT rules being the way they are.

      Well said

    • @vh8542
      @vh8542 5 лет назад +1

      Well you are wrong when you say no one would be complaining. I for one would because the nfl has already admitted that the rule stating that the first team who scores first wins. It use to be a field goal and they changed it, admitting that that is not fair. So how is the team scoring a td first possession any different? It's more fair yes, but not fair in a playoff game.
      Kelce is right though, the Chiefs lost the game. They had 4 quarters to win. But they did lose on a coin toss. Defenses wear out and fatigue more than offenses and when you have the Patriots or another very good offense against a bad defense that has already played 4 quarters then there's a good chance you are going to see the same thing you saw in that game.
      I do appreciate Rich's point about how if they changed it it would give the other team an unfair advantage as well. I've mentioned it before as well. But if Brady scores a TD and then the Chiefs get the ball back and know that they have 4 downs all the way instead of 3 then that is not fair either. It's a hard situation to correct, and not saying I have the answers, but it doesn't matter what team it is it is not perfect and I think they should try to change it.

    OT is an extension of the original game. You can’t change the rules. Every year the NFL gets closer to being a Powderpuff league. You’ve got 4 quarters to win the game. It’s bad enough that nearly everything gets reviewed. I’m surprised they still have Refs and not just cameras. Why not add 2-4 more referees for the “missed” calls?

      No they didn’t. Look; there’s a reason that, at each half, one offense gets the ball, then the other offense gets the ball. It is 100% fact that it’s better for your offense to have the ball than your defense. So while the Chiefs did get a “chance”, it wasn’t as good as the Patriots chance.

    • @nathans5347
      @nathans5347 5 лет назад

      @@cdallapiccola Dude, listen to yourself. You're not even disagreeing that NFL OT rules are unfair. The whole "they got 60 minutes to try and win it" thing can be applied to New England too. How come they get a pass for only drawing the first 60 minutes? If that coin had landed on the opposite side, we're probably looking at a Chiefs - Rams superbowl.
      To make it more fair, you could do what college does. If that takes too long, then you could just have each teams attempt 2 point conversion until one of them fails and the other succeeds. It's really not hard or unreasonable to ask that the outcome of the game not be based so largely on a coin toss.

    So if you change the overtime rules to where both teams get the ball where do you draw the line on when the game should end? What happens when both teams score a touchdown in the 1st overtime and we head to a second overtime, a third overtime, a fourth overtime....the rules are the rules, I for one am getting tired of the rules or some of the rules being changed every single year.

The Chiefs played the Pats twice this year. Both times the Pats just barely won those games. so If Brady is the G.O.A.T , then what is Mahomes ? I ask this because your G.O.A.T was almost beat in both of those games. If I were Pats fans I would be happy with the 6 championships because I bet you next year will be much different.
