Your video’s are great! I bought the 70-180 Tamron for my a7iii last year, saving for the 28-75 now to complete my amateur use. This video is real helpful. The auto focus is why I’ll get the G2.
You are getting better and better, Stefan, with your content. It has been a pleasure to watch this channel grow. I think this Tamron comparison is one of your best, so far, and deserves a lot of views. I like your little model- I hope you paid her well!
Great review Stefan, thanks! I agree with HD BnB, I'd love to see a comparison with the G2 vs the Sigma 24-70. I have the G1 Tamron, and although a very useful lens, I don't use it so much as there is something I can't put my finger on that I don't like about its IQ, so I end up carrying primes instead of the zoom. I was considering moving to the Sigma 24-70 to get better controls (AF hold and AF/MF switch are useful to me,) a wider FOV, and possibly more pleasing (to me) IQ. Also hoping you are able to give us a review on the 35-150. If it's as good as the 28-75 G1 and 70-180 I might have to seriously reconsider my options!
Hey! This! I wish this running test was done more for video. You did it with a photo burst, but I wonder how it would perform with that same fast action running and tracking the eye each second in video.
I have the original Tamron 28-75, and my personal opinion is that someone would have to be crazy to pay for this upgrade. I'm not denying the slight differences in child running toward camera auto-focus performance, but how often is anyone shooting that? Anyone seriously shooting sports photography wouldn't be using this lens for that anyway.
The biggest improvement compared to the first generation should be the manufacturing. G1 is made in China, but G2 is made in Japan. That's probably why G2 has better sharpness and build quality
Thanks for the video! Here we can buy v1 for 550 EUR, v2 for 950. What do you think, is it worth to pay for the new one nearly twice? Or is the 550 an offer not to pass?
I'll safe up some money till next year (maybe black Friday) for the a7iv together with eather the G2 or the bigger brother. But probably the 28-75 because I need more of the closer range. A long range one later the following year
The G2 certainly looks better, but I don't like the external USB connector, especially not where it's located (seems like it would be on top of the lens, would be best if it were under it)... already have the original, so will skip the G2 for now and wait for Tamron to perfect their design. If not for the USB thing definitely liking where they''re going with the new design philosophy.
Does this lens focus while zooming for stills? i.e a basketball player drives in front of you and you rack zoom out, does it continue to focus during the zooming?
I’m such a moron. I own this lease but for whatever reason reason I thought the one I had was the older model. If I understand this correctly only the G2 has a usb c and custom button right?
Not worth for it. I disagree, build quality with open UBS port is huge disadvantage. The new is a bit sharper only in corners but I never shoot portraits under f5.6-f8.0. You can buy a used v1 for for only 380-400 EUR, new one is 900.
Hi! Thanks! What about chromathic aberration? The first version hasn't but I've seen a lot of samples of the G2 and I see a lot of chromatic aberration! Why? Tnak you!
Hey I just got the tamron 28-75 R2 - and it does not respect the setting I input in your camera for AF track sensitivity & AF Drive Speed in video - if i set to 'slow 'on my 24-105 it gives me a slow smooth focus pull - on the tamron 28-75 R2 - it does the same sloppy low budget video camera looking focus stutter jumping in video no matter what setting I input. Is the first generation 28-75 like this? is there a firmware update coming to fix this?- Does the sigma 2.8 24-70 respond to the values you input for track sens and Af drive speed?. Thanks!
Great review! Any chance you will also compare the new Tamron 28-75 G2 vs the Sigma 28-70 2.8?

Thanks very much 😉
Would love to see this one compared with the 24-70 sigma!

If I would have the original, I wouldn't upgrade, but if I bye a new lense in that range, I would prefer the G2
I just bought the original. The new G2 is EUR 903 here, and I bought an excellent second hand original for EUR 391. :)
have you seen any difference in AF when it comes to backlit subjects? I noticed the original is terrible when there is harsh light behind someone.
Tnx mate ill go For G2
Thanks for your video. Tamron G2 or Sigma 28-70?
It's compared at the sonyalpha blog.
Tamron G2

Yo ! I am wondering about buying the g1 or the g2, can you tell me if i really need to go for g2 ? Thxxx
In other review I saw a sharpness comparison and the G2 was clearly sharper
@@zen933
I suspect this was a pixel peeping-related sharpness demonstration.
@@brotherted9212 you can find similar results from this video

Bro do a comparison with sigma 28-70 2.8

Funny because I have the original Tamron 28-75 mm F2.8 lens for sony and it says it was designed in Vietnam
@@97nelsn My lens it was made in JAPAN
Cheers 🤙 i got the old one. If I didn't have it I would bought the G2 in a heartbeat
Thanks for the video! Here we can buy v1 for 550 EUR, v2 for 950. What do you think, is it worth to pay for the new one nearly twice? Or is the 550 an offer not to pass?
Buy the 1st version. Not more of a difference
Hey!
Thanks for your video!
Are the dimensions of the focus ring rubber the same?

do any of you get vignetting at 28 f2.8? Its not too bad i would say but definitely a noticeable gradual change
Awesome video! I just ordered my copy of the G2!
Thanks for all the info! I just got the G2 and wanted to know how it differed from the first :) You think this G2 is better than the Sigma 28-70mm??
Asides from the size & weight - yes the g2 is a much better choice :)
@@forumsnowsoldier good to know, thanks :)
I would not agree at all...
Great video as always Stefan! Keep up the good work! Love your content!
How does the G2 compare to the Sigma 28-70? It's a even more compact lens.
It's compared at the sonyalpha blog.
Check Stephan's previous upload, he's got the Sigma there. I'm sure he will compare them in the near future :)
Great video as always. You should get rid of that mold on the window :P

Not sure if the USB port is a risk to weather sealing, but you know, you could just but a patch of gorilla tape or something like that over it?
It’s under the lens. If you look at it from the front, it’s at about 5 o clock.
This is G2 very contrast. THis is normal or not. I use A7iii.
as usual you are amazing reference source thanks
Does this lens focus while zooming for stills? i.e a basketball player drives in front of you and you rack zoom out, does it continue to focus during the zooming?
If you shoot video with the original and slowly zoom in it flickers a little bit in brightness due to aperture
Does this happen on g2?
Thanks for the comparison! it's awesome! appreciated!
I’m such a moron. I own this lease but for whatever reason reason I thought the one I had was the older model.

how much stable is the G2 with vibration compensation compared to the old one??
Neither have it. You might be thinking about the 70-180 G2
@@StefanMalloch You are right, the info i read was wrong. cheers.

I didn't see anything significant to note. Better in basically every way over v1. Might be an optimal misalignment on your copy.
Sorry, i saw it in a video of youtube but it was a fake video, thanks :)

Sounds like something a firmware update would fix. Hope you got that figured out
Low light autofocus ability is determined by your camera, not your lens.
If you take 10 lenses in the same lighting with the same camera, with the same settings, they will not perform the same.
Found original for £500 on ebay so was worth it.
