    This week I built a couple nightstands for my Parents. I built it using red oak. I assembled it using Kreg Jig pocket holes. I did this because I wanted to show how easy it is to make a great piece of furniture with out have the skills to do mortise and tenon joinery.

    A very good choice to show a component in situ and then describe how it is made. Much better than the mystery build and reveal at the end type of video. Well a better learning experience for me anyway. Thanks

    Good call on the rounded corners 👍

      I built these for my parents. My dad wanted rounded corners because his cousin fell out of bed once and took her eye out on the corner of her nightstand. She is now blind in one eye.

    As usual, Very nice. Those would be easy to enclose with sides and a couple of doors. Make a nice little cabinet.

      It would be. Also would be easy to add drawers to it aswell.

    Wish I had a planar and a jointer but no room. Nice video

      Thanks. If you buy your lumber already dressed you don’t need a planner and jointer. Before I was on RUclips I never owned a planet or jointer. I made it work

    Looks good Wes what type of finish you using? I encourage you to try Danish oil especially on Oak makes the Grain and colors pop nicely that's just my opinion I think we had this conversation before LOL

      Joe Basement Woodworking & DIY my dad is finishing them. He is staining it to match the dresser I just built for him. I do want to try using danish oil. Sounds interesting.

    Very nice work Wes! Those nightstands turned out great! The only thing that I would have done differently would have been to add a drawer............... 👍👍

      Sapele Steve same here. They are for my parents and they didn’t want drawers.

    So Wes, did you do a standard height and what about the size of the top? Did your parents request a certain size? Just wondering, they are fantastic. Us older people have more junk on a night stand than younger folk. lol

      @WesHamstra  4 года назад

      Gerald Roth my mom gave me the dimensions they wanted. The top is 16x20 and it is 26” tall. I made it the height of their bed. That way you don’t have to roll over and look down to see the alarm clock.

    Do you have the dimension for the pieces. I’d like to build.
