Took less than 10 minutes to replace both struts, longest part was removing the plastic grommets and one of the pins had pushed right into the housing. 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Just an update , did strutts today , finally. To remove the lower pin , if you look in the channel there is room to use a stanley knife to shuffle the pin out , worked a treat. Damo 🙂👍
Hi Nigel, thanks for your comment. I have not sourced any new caps yet to replace the damaged ones. It’s certainly worth doing is this job and will save you from a large bill at a garage.
Just done it but ordered slightly larger struts, loads better now but had to use bigger pins, not a big deal at all and should last longer than the stock ones.
Hi any tips on getting the bottom pin out it will not budge will i have to drill a small hole on the outer casing and push it in and the seal the hole i just cant get holed if the pin with any too Thank fot any help
Hi Terry If you are talking about the plastic grommet it is tricky without damaging it Try picking it with a sharp tool I damaged mine getting them out

Having ordered the 330mm struts, I think it probable that I can expect to also struggle to remove the four end caps, and will damage them. Reminds me of the Hartal door lock "red and green" covers hiding the screws. I ended up drilling a small hole, and then picking the covers out; I expect the caps to be the same. Did you find replacement caps of the same colours please?

Yes the caps are widely available. The problem I have with these “little jobs” is that the van is stored 20 miles from home. Thus in going to sort something, I need mental discipline to organise tooling and parts, else fail halfway through the task! I had to buy circlip pliers for the door lock, as hadn’t seen my old pair for some time. I don’t lube with multipurpose oil “3 in One” type for locks, and do use graphite fine powder sold by locksmiths. Wear Nitrile gloves as the powder can penetrate skin!

That is a trick that works on electric socket grommets though 👍 Just couldn't grab the pin with pliers , that's when I looked in the channel and got the knife out.👍 Did notice on another vid that someone mentioned the eye on the strut would unscrew , too late for me by then though 🙂
You had a go yourself and completed it 👍 I filled my grommets with filler just to tidy the holes up I put in. Great we can look this knowledge up online 👍😊
Sadly front screens are laminated so the don't shatter and fall to pieces. Only side windows will do that. You can see the problem in the videos. I don't think this device will help you escape through the front screen - which may be your only option.

Had problems getting plugs out, so drilled them and used a screw to get them out

I can not get the plastic bung out I've made a right mess. 😥
If your having trouble drill the bung out carefully and prise any remaining out.
