Thanks for joining Tom & Madge on this incredible journey through Jamaica's Bath Botanical Gardens! Did the story of the first breadfruit tree being carried to Jamaica by Captain Bligh surprise you? 🍈 If you enjoyed the video, don't forget to give it a thumbs up 👍 and consider subscribing for more adventures!
why did we give so much attention to a white man that takes credit for breadfruit in Jamaica on the land where slaves died and we passed over this mention several times with no education in that regarding slaves....... don't care about no captain Bligh sorry who wants credit for a national dish!
It's really great to see Madge's face lights up....she needs to do it more, she's beautiful. 😊❤ I thoroughly enjoyed this episode.
I totally agree! Madge really shines now that she’s feeling better and getting used to being filmed. Stay tuned. There’s more great adventures to come. 😊❤️🇯🇲
The creation of the garden resulted in the introduction of foreign plants into the island. Some of which were subsequently planted elsewhere in the country as the garden served as a nursery. These included cinnamon, jackfruit, croton, jacaranda and bougainvillea. However, the most important plant introduced was the breadfruit which has become a Jamaican staple. Some as these plants were brought to Jamaica by Captain Bligh in 1793 and the HMS Providence. In 1782, a French ship was captured by Rodney and its cargo which included many economic plants which were planted here.
The Bath Botanic Garden began to decline after repeated flooding by the Sulphur River and the creation of the Castleton Botanic Garden, St. Mary in 1860. 🎖This is a very lovely video, thank you Mazie and Tom for taking us with you I enjoyed watching up up
We hope to film at Castleton sometime. Appreciate the history. It’s so fascinating to me. Thank you for this comment! Your the best! 👍👍❤️🇯🇲🇦🇺

Bath Botanical Garden is beautiful. Thanks for the history lesson.
Glad you enjoyed it. Captain Bligh carried the breadfruit suckers in 1793 from Tahiti, but other than that we had our story correct. 😂❤️👍🇯🇲
Jamaica is just beautiful look at the beautiful landscapes it’s very sad to see the tree where the slave owners used to hang our four parents it pain my heart 💜 to see that tree with your beautiful work we are getting a history lesson thank you Mage and Tom
Thank you for sharing your feelings with us. Jamaica's beauty is indeed undeniable, with its landscapes offering a stunning backdrop to both the joys and sorrows of our shared history. The tree you mentioned serves as a somber reminder of the past, evoking deep emotions and reflections on the struggles faced by our ancestors. It's important that we remember and acknowledge these aspects of history, as they shape our understanding and appreciation of the present.
We're humbled to provide you with a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Jamaica's history through our work. Your words mean a lot to us, and we hope to continue offering insights and stories that not only celebrate the beauty of Jamaica but also honor its complex history. You guys are on a wonderful tour enjoy your tours
Thank you! ❤️❤️
Went to Bath Fountain in the early 80s . Never visited the garden. So thanks for taking us on this trip.
Its a beautiful place and holds much history. Unfortunately it seems as if not much effort has been put in preserving the history.
There seems to be no labels on the trees, Not even the entry to what the guide said was the Court House.
The guide could not be a trained guide. He doesn't even know the correct name of the trees.
Those old trees are priceless. The gov't should put more effort in treating them and presenting them as such.. I see the local folks are trying but gov't must put more money in that treasure.
I agree. This historic place is priceless and needed more attention. ❤️❤️❤️
Hey sir Tom and Miss Madge on the stroke of four I went in search of you. Nothing !!!! 😮 I panicked I was like I hope everything is ok.
Glad you are up and running. .

Glad you enjoy watching. Thanks for joining us. ❤️🇯🇲
One of the trees with white blossom is Elephant Apple, can be eaten and used in curried and chutneys
Madge is trying to figure out which tree. You definitely piqued her interest with your comment. Big up yourself! ❤️❤️❤️
The community of Bath was once the capital of St Thomas and home to the very wealthy.
In the 1990s when the government reformed the education sector and introduced the ROSE ( Reform Of Secondary Education) programme, the first Junior High School in Jamaica, Bath Primary and Junior High was opened as the pilot for the project.
Oh that’s interesting. So much wonderful history is not being taught and preserved, and could eventually just be lost. I wish it could be restored and history maintained. ❤️❤️❤️
I use to frequent this garden back in the very early 60s when I spent summer break there
The man in charge of the property was a mister Bobby
That massive tree if I recall from reading a small plaque on the trunk stating that this tree is native to Ceylon
Correction name should be mister Bibby
Police station is very close to the garden
PG river (plantain garden) is close to the southern end of the garden
Big up yourself for sharing those cherished memories! Mr. Bibby must have had quite a presence back in the day, and that Ceylon tree is truly something special 🌳. Blessings for reminiscing with us!
@@RedButtonJournal it was the summer of 1960 I spent there
The garden faces the road that leads to the Bath Fountain
Song by Brian Highland “itsy bitsy yellow polka dot bikini” was played on radio at the time
