nice video. btw, can we change the location of the marine weather forecast with GPS coordinates ? i mean, can we select the navigation zone ahead when we are in high sea ?
Thank you! Very clarifying. Please tell us about iridium-go on predict wind! We are preparing to cross the pacific and have never had satellite com. We love predict wind and it seems only compatible with iridium-go.
Thanks for the insights. I *think* it is possible to connect a Garmin inreach mini 2, with a Tablet (ipad or android) and the Predict Wind app and display GRIB Files. If so, this could avoid a huge amount of faffing around, make having say two inreach mini 2's an ipad, and say a cheap android tablet for belt and braces backup at reasonable cost . The glitch in the "Cunning Plan" may be the SIM system for Predict Wind ? Any I sights on the potential in that direction greatly appreciated, as tbh, I'm trying to avoid things like Starlink and Media crap on my next boat - no videoing either as about as bad as writing software for destroying time I'd rather enjoy just Sailing. Family getting voyage tracks is OK ish. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️
Thanks for your comments, I’m afraid its not possible to use the the inreach device to download GRIB files. You can do everything you just said using an Iridium GO device. It’s not to tricky using it to get weather information or for downloading GRIB files using sail doc’s. However I personally prefer using the Predict Wind offshore app, Just because you get multiple weather models. Hope that helps. Cheers Liam
@@sailing_Aiaia Thanks Liam, much appreciated. I suppose it does make more sense to have the Iridium Go with an external Antenna, I may still pick up an Iireach mini 2 for backup. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️
Thanks for the video I m thinking to buy one, can you pls tell me if is there a difference between from inreach mini and inreach mini marine bundle? or it is the same product with accessories. Thanks
You were talking about receiving RGRIB files via the Iridium Go which you can display on your Mac. I am very interested how to test/play with these RGrib files on my Mac also. Would you be willing to provide some details to get me going also (just at home wifi).
Great video. What antenna did you end up replacing your old one with? I'm thinking about getting this AIS and would imagine I'm going to have to replace the existing antenna. Thanks
Thank you for the great vids 😉 would you know what the inreach mini marine bundle adds to the gadget? Planning to buy one to go sailing from France to Canaria. Thanks!
I was hoping for info in the title, i.e. is the marine weather useful. Not really covered. Does it show wind into the future? Can one see where storms are coming from? My guess is that it is useless.
What we really need to know is how far ahead the forecast can go and take into account that we maybe 120 nm ahead every 24 hours. Pointless knowing the weather at your location while you are in it.....
Hi there, this website www.cwtouchkeyer.com/best-personal-locator-beacons/ has the inreach mini as a plb however, I reckon its probably not quite as waterproof as a proper marine PLB so It would certainly be nice to have in a grab bag but I'd still want a buoyant unit like the ACR attached to my lifejacket for use at sea.
Hi guys! Thanks for that vid, very helpful :) You said you also have an Iridium go, right. We are currently looking for sat phones for when we plan to cross the Atlantic later this year. Would you cross with only the Garmin and without the Iridium Go? The iridiums are just so pricey ! ;) Are you guys btw also planning on crossing coming winter, since you seem to be in the Canary Islands at the moment! Cheers
Thanks for your comments! to answer your question yes crossing only with the garmin unit is ofcourse possible but if your budget allows an iridium go unit paired with a predict wind subscription for example, means your view of the weather that is likely to effect you is definitely better with an iridium unit. It just depends what your budget allows. Regarding our future travel I'm not sure, we have our boat for sale, so it just depends if we get any takers.
Sailing Yacht Blaze thanks for you quick reply! Yeah we do love the fact that you can pair it with predict wind. Absolutely awesome! We’re still on the fence about that one. Thanks! Too bad you are selling! But you probably have your reasons :) good luck with the sale then 💪 cheers
hey, thanks for the vid ! :) At the end, you didn't say how much was the overcost to get marine weather predicition.. thankks :)

Thank you for the demo.
Informative video.

If the receiver want to reply the inReach Mini message they received, how much they would be costed for sending reply message?
Sorry I'm not certain, it's been a while since I looked into it.

Hey sorry, I must have missed this message. I just bought the device only I'm afraid. I'm not sure what came in the bundle

Can this be used as a PLB replacement?

How much did the marine forecast cost?
Premium non-marine and Marine forecasts cost $1.00 per request. The charge is automatically added to your next inReach invoice. So says their website.
if you press the SOS does it activate the AIS alarm on board?
I'm afraid it doesn't, would be good if it did through!
