- June 12, 2004: Eric Nguyen and I observed tornadoes from a classic supercell near Mulvane and Rock, Kansas. The Mulvane tornado is by far the most visibly stunning tornado I have ever seen. Eric's photographs from this day are arguably some of the best tornado images ever taken. Please visit www.mesoscale.ws to see his images.

NWS Wichita:
Another round of tornado producing supercells moved across areas just south of Wichita on June 12th, 2004. Five confirmed tornadoes skipped along the Sumner/Sedgwick and Butler/Cowley county lines during the early evening hours.
The supercell thunderstorms formed along a dry line in Southern Kansas in Harper County, Kansas. Radar signature shows the dry line and initial thunderstorm development.
The storms rapidly intensified once they moved into northeastern sections of Sumner County, with the first touchdown reported at aproximately 7:10 pm just southwest of Mulvane. The supercell thunderstorm continued to cycle, or strengthen and weaken, as it moved slowly east, producing and dissipating tornadoes as it went. At approximately, 7:25 pm the supercell produced a longer track tornado that produced damage at the Mulvane Saddle Club as it crossed Kansas Highway 15 near Greenwich Road.
The Damage at this location was rated F1 and F2 respectively. The tornado continued eastward causing very little damage in it's path, until it began to drift southeast. At this time the tornado produced significant damage as the white rope tornado leveled a frame house in which 2 occupants survived by taking shelter under the basement stairs. The tornado was rated as a strong F3.
Three other tornadoes in Cowley county produced little damage, however, the tornado near Rock was quite picturesque with the sun setting off on the western horizon. The other two tornadoes were just south of Atlanta and were rated an F0.
As the supercell continued on into Elk County, it produced two very weak rope tornadoes that only caused damage to a corn crop.

You're a Legend Man! Stay safe Boys!
I hope you and the people here are safe
Thank you for your information. Be Safe everyone
Wjiob mind game aaega kya hai ❤😊😊😊😮😮😮😮
this footage is honestly incredible for 2004!
I thought it was typo at first.
@@starfishpucker Right? Wild!
yeah same dude i noticed that right away... they mustve had one of the more expensive cameras and even mics from that time.
They had HD cameras since the early 90s, well in Japan though
Maybe 2024?
Thank you for taking the effort to get this uploaded in higher quality. It’s a stunning tornado and the photos you linked to are excellent as well.
You're very welcome
Can't believe that was 20 years ago, when I was a teenage weather nerd armchair chasing from afar (which was a lot less immersive then, as live streaming was not a thing). RIP Eric Nguyen, his images are iconic. For epic/photogenic tornado production by a single supercell in the Plains, I'd say this has been exceeded only a handful of times since, by Pilger, Dodge City and perhaps two or three others.
Congratulations guys, for getting this on film and documented. A black sky, a white stovepipe tornado, and a double rainbow! That was unbelievable!
😮
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
It's sad how something so photogenic is so tragic.
It’s not always tragic. Sometimes they just go through fields and hurt no one.
ur projecting
what happened to u in the past with a tornado?
its a ntural phenominon
not sad
simply nature
Joplin.
You get an ef-5 rain wrapped it’s over
We live in Ellendale ND and I have had to drive home underneath a similar sky. We are part of the alley of such. I'm not a chaser.
😢
Absolutely stunning. Tornado, rainbows, and lightning. Just amazing.
Eric Nguyen is a legend. I am sure he'd love that you are still at It. Be safe out there, Scott!
Rainbow and tornado crossing. Wow just wow. A first for me to see. ❤ This is so photogenic and would make an amazing oil painting. Thanks for uploading a video from 20 years ago!
Great idea! 🎨 🖌️
Thank you! Cheers!
Eric Nguyen (RIP) made absolutely epic photos of those tornadoes.
Awesome footage! I feel so guilty sometimes enjoying this weather and knowing that people lose their lives or homes.
Yes, but a not all tornados damage homes or hurt people.
Around the 14 minute mark is just insane.
It looks like it is sitting still for a little while there.
Scott what a tremendous experience you had with the first tornado backlit showing the white tornado having rain between the Sun and behind you giving the rainbow and then the tornado going through the area spreading the rainbow wider was something I've never seen
The second tornado at about 22 minutes into your clip with the sunset was almost as nice Great job
~15:00 That tornado is like, “F*k this spot in particular”
13:38 14:17 14:53 the legendary moments
A tornado and a rainbow in the same spot!!! That is a rare sight>
The thunder was awesome too.
Yes. That long white tornado and the rainbow was the real “photogenic” part! 👍
Yeah 👍🏼
Amazing video Scott, can you believe this was my first tornado, on my 3rd storm chase. I was so spoiled.
That is awesome!
i was 3 months old 😂
A f-3 tornado that tragically destroyed a 1967 Shelby Mustang that was found quarter of a mile from its destroyed garage. RIP
Rip
💔😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THAT! OMG! GREAT JOB!!!!! (I don't normally type in all caps - I'm pretty freaking excited by that video!)
I think you're the only storm chaser who doesn't scream through the entire video: "We've got debris!!" a la "Twister." I can't watch those. We see the debris - lol Amazing shots. And terrifying. Be safe!
My favorite footage from my "Get out and film it"! DVD Best wishes Scott!
No kidding! My mom bought that DVD for me when I was 6 years old. It seriously influenced the rest of my life for storm chasing.
No way! It's unbelievable to see more footage of the Mulvane tornado. I was so infatuated with one of the images Eric took (around 14:45 in the video) that I ended up painting it in an art class many years ago! Rest in peace, Eric. I hope you knew how loved your work is.
It's like cotton candy. Nothing sweet, but the clarity of the video. 🫴🏻 🌪️
It's amazing how the angle of the light affects how a tornado looks
Gotta love great footage that has been unedited! Along for the chase!!! BEAUTIFUL!
Amazing 😮
Really incredible
I remember when I was a kid I got a tornado calendar and had this tornado at 14:20 as one of the pics. I always wanted to see the footage of this one and finally got to (:
The Weather Guide Calendar! Eric got his Mulvane shot on the cover one year and I got this one on the cover a couple years later. ruclips.net/video/hTFfZD_hmoY/видео.htmlsi=9tEyhVn9PREAZMXV
That is amazing
Incredible!
Awesome display and great photography
I've had a photo of this tornado saved in my various pcs for probably like, I don't know, over a decade now? Probably longer? I never knew where the photo came from, I just thought it was one of the coolest tornadoes ever. And now I get to see who took the photos ha. Awesome
Wubbox
💩 poop
This tornado🌪️was rated F3.

I’ve been fascinated by Ts ever since I read the Wizard of Oz in 1943. Videos have changed my perspective of them, but I would be scared shitless if I were to see a real one. I’d like to ,but too many people have said that there is no safe place to be to watch them. Now I’m not so sure. I live near Vancouver, BC,, an EF0 arose arose from the Straight of Georgia three years ago crossed onto a golf course and then caused little dsmsga excrpt to trees until it reached a major motorway dissipating. I couldn’t see it.
That is how I got interested in them.😊❤
14:53. Gorgeous twister, lighting bolt, and rainbow all share the screen. Absolutely mind blow nature.
INCRREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!
You could chase for another 70 years and probably not hit that trifecta ever again. A obvious and clear tornado with lightening & thunder and a rainbow.....seriously......count your blessings. TY for uploading this. Happy Trails.
Your wipers were driving me nuts..😱😱😱😱😨😨😰😰😰😖😖😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫🤯🤯🤯
I can only imagine a tornado as large as El Reno tornado and being that close
Just Wow! Spectacular!
Glad you like it!
i have the fear of tornadoes, hurricanes, storms but i still watch these video lol
I thought most of it was fairly steady, minus a few spots. Going in and out of the car. Stuff like that.
wow,incredible!
They had 60 fps in 2004?
even my space key can't stop the thunder strike
Pure wow.
did this still RAW footage or you just upscaled then interpolated the video? i think if you save video(pure video without edit) since 2004 and upload again in 2024 or maybe more than that...the quality it will look way better than youtube back in 2010s i think🤔
Awesome footage!!
Omg soo cool! Love that footage for 2004!
Need some pictures with a nice camera of this thing. (Edited for spelling)
www.mesoscale.ws/04-documents/040612.htm
You do not get out of film when debris is falling from the sky.
I love those clouds and the storm
14:15 you couldn’t ask for better WOW!
beautiful rainbow with that chaotic tornado.. surprised the tornado didn't become colorful knowing this dangerous thing would be colorful if rainbows were to merge with the tornado
dudeeee that cameras aesthetic is sooo coooool, such amazing filming, do you remember what type of camera it was?
im gonna try and get one when i hopefully go see my first tornado in a year or so, that'd be so cool
Team Pecos here. Hank forgot to put a link in his Argentina video for your channel when he gave you a shoutout ;) He should add a link in his comment section.
He did link one of my videos on the end screen of the Argentina video.
Fantastico 😮
Great footage
Are you doing this on primere pro?
If so can you like- do a tut for how you do the watermark like that? My watermark sucks lol
Great camera
Wow, looks good
DUDE TORNADO IS REALLY SCARY
Ow shit! I was born 4 days after this 😂
?
13:57 The sun is shining, the birds are singing
I remember my first and only tornado I was like 8 or 10 this took place some in Georgia
Wow! Tornado with a rainbow!
what does photogenic even mean when the camera guy is unable to get a solid 2/3 sec composed shot without moving or zooming in and out. If only 95% of all users of audiovisiual gear would actually learn how to use gear...if only for that once in a lifetime moment.
All you had to do was look at the thumbnail to find out
Maybe this will be more to your liking. The first few minutes are a little shaky then it is smooth sailing after that. ruclips.net/video/QGCy-xCLsZ8/видео.html
Considering that most people are recording the video while in a moving vehicle it's hard to keep the camera perfectly still and they can't always setup a tripod outside depending upon their proximity to the storm/tornado and the weather conditions outside ie raining, hail, thunder, and wind speeds and types of wind. This was back in 2004 and the cameras digital back then were extremely expensive and the quality of the images were not at the same level of clarity as the those produced by the HD digital cameras available today.
Bitch a little more?
so get a gimbal? buy or build
This needs a whole lot of editing and less shaking done to it. Otherwise it’s pretty good filming.
I almost cried fr-
imagine if eric knew about the powers of psychedelics before he left us! Im really glad i found them. eric nguyen and matt hughes or anyone suffering from depression needs to know the exit strategy
I must be watching something different than others. I just see a sun roof, side of a truck and occasional tornado shots.
12:09 it Almost looks like a tornado that hit Elgin, Illinois on July 12, 2023, but in 2004! the 2004 tornado predicted the tornado in Elgin!🌪️😳😧
On the very first picture if you look closer there is a rainbow
WOW THAT IS A THUNDERSTORM IR WORSE
6:46 WHY THE HECK ARE YOU OUTSIDE!! TAKE COVER!!
They r a tornado chaser
Your camera is all over the place
Cool😮
Lol, what happened to the door?
Tornadoes are scary as Fuck lol 😮

It's pretty
Sim e muito.bom esas coisas que mostran no iutub

That's was twenty years ago
How da wit tornado to go🌪️
HALLO ❤
🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️
poco a poco cómo se está formando
Take a spare person to carry the camera and set up a tripod. You're losing a lot of good footage. But the inside of your vehicle's lovely.
The lightning and random softball sized hail kept me from setting up a tripod that day. I sure with I could go back in time and capture those tornadoes with 4k and a drone.
Holy crap run and hide people be safe
Es un poderoso fuerte
It's a ef4
😢
So scary and why risk your life
Ese sí es un huracán😨
