Watch their performance of this from the Letterman show it is the greatest live performance of this song IMO of course , he hits the high notes during the chorus…
Charades, pop skill Water hyacinth, named by a poet Imitation of life Like a koi in a frozen pond Like a goldfish in a bowl I don't want to hear you cry That's sugarcane that tasted good That's cinnamon, that's Hollywood C'mon, c'mon no one can see you try You want the greatest thing The greatest thing since bread came sliced You've got it all, you've got it sized Like a Friday fashion show teenager Freezing in the corner Trying to look like you don't try That's sugarcane that tasted good That's cinnamon, that's Hollywood C'mon, c'mon no one can see you try No one can see you cry That sugar cane that tasted good That freezing rain, that's what you could C'mon, c'mon on no one can see you cry This sugarcane This lemonade This hurricane, I'm not afraid C'mon, c'mon no one can see me cry This lightning storm This tidal wave This avalanche, I'm not afraid C'mon, c'mon no one can see me cry That sugar cane that tasted good That's who you are, that's what you could C'mon, c'mon on no one can see you cry That sugar cane that tasted good That's who you are, that's what you could C'mon, c'mon on no one can see you cry
Michael Stipe is singing in the choruses differently because if he did it like the studio version it would have been overpowering. In 2005 he started to sing the some of the choruses differently because he had difficulty doing it like the studio version live as he moved around alot and to save his voice.
I try to attempt to sing 🎶 the standard notes 🎶 of each chorus whilst this song 🎶 is playing but I always end up 🆙 singing the tune he sings on the unplugged version. A failure 😨 to harmonise.
@@NickyMitchell85 Im not a singer but i guess when trying to sing the highest notes whilst moving around is difficult. You can just about hear Peter Holsappe sing the Come On, Come on no one can see you cry'' part like the studio version.
@@bradhilton2283 I know the feeling! It's listening to REM that gets me through the difficult parts of life and provide a little window through to the better ones.

Imitation of life
Like a koi in a frozen pond
Like a goldfish in a bowl
I don't want to hear you cry
That's sugarcane that tasted good
That's cinnamon, that's Hollywood
C'mon, c'mon no one can see you try
You want the greatest thing
The greatest thing since bread came sliced
You've got it all, you've got it sized
Like a Friday fashion show teenager
Freezing in the corner
Trying to look like you don't try
That's sugarcane that tasted good
That's cinnamon, that's Hollywood
C'mon, c'mon no one can see you try
No one can see you cry
That sugar cane that tasted good
That freezing rain, that's what you could
C'mon, c'mon on no one can see you cry
This sugarcane
This lemonade
This hurricane, I'm not afraid
C'mon, c'mon no one can see me cry
