    Thanks for taking the time to correspond, Thomas. You do such an outstanding job with your videos, and your style of succinct information and understatement, is truly unique. And very refreshing. So many of the "instructional" videos are loooong and disorganized.
    And I see some others are now trying to emulate you. I guess it's their way of complimenting you! Keep up your work!

    First of all: Happy New Year! One thing to make us surely happy is what I just got from Blaser some minutes ago: I had requested a clear statement about availability of 6,5-284 barrels for R93 or R8 several days ago. Today they told me that they checked and that it will be possible again to get those for the "normal" cost of a standard barrel plus the common additional cost for special order. Delivery time should be 3-4 month. So on your marks... :)

    This:low recoil, one pass in-the-sizer-die brass wildcat is the reason I am so anxious to find an alternative barrel source for our R93s. It shoots inside a long barrel full house 6.5x284 withOUT MAX loading pressures. Berger makes wonderful hunting VLDs for us in the US and your Amax sourcing will still be cheap in EU. Having a barrel like this that duplicates the 6.5x284 would allow a shooter to alternate between the two and avoid overheating the throats of either with long practice sessions.

    I wonder, Thomas, if it is rather the wind that made it difficult to repeat the hit at 1670 meters. It's a long way off, with much and varied wind interference possible between you and the target - in wide open terrain. It seems that if it hit the first time, and all things were equal, it should have hit the second or third time. I thought it was remarkable that you calculated all variables just right to have a first hit! Good doping.

      Technology and doppler radar is fantastic these days. Add an element of luck...

  • @claro9554
    @claro9554 12 лет назад

    They claimed that demand was not existing anymore and people would go for 6,5x68 or .270 instead. I asked them already if they could ream a 6,5x55 to 6,5-284. It`s technically possible but twist/rifling would not match... :(

  • @claro9554
    @claro9554 12 лет назад

    But I hope you will get your barrels anyway, a Blaser technician told me they normaly would still have pre-manufactured ("weißfertig") barrels but when I wanted to order and was connected to the sales department they said no and that it was no longer possible to order. If your order was placed earlier you should also get it, otherwise you should have been informed. So maybe I should call and tell them you want only 4... :)

  • @claro9554
    @claro9554 12 лет назад

    I have only read about the 8,5x63. They tell that it`s nearly as potential as a .338 WM but with less gas pressure and less recoil and that it`s even more accurate. 6,5-284 barrels for R93 are hardly to get and I just had an offer for a 8,5x63 barrel so I was just thinking about if that caliber would be also good for Longrange. But brass and bullets have also to be calculated so finally I will emulate your setup even more... ;)
    Do you have a tip for powder (6,5x55 and 6,5-284) for me? Thanks!

    • @THLR

      243? I've used it, really liked it and had best success with the Hornady 87gr Vmax and BTHP. Others like very much the 95gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. These 6mm bullets don't have the very best Bc numbers, but they tend to shoot very accurately.

      THLR.NO I will for sure ask you some more about it in mid Decembre when it's gonna be in my hands, i'm going to zero it at 100m, then evaluate it at 200m 300 etc and more. What would you consider as a limit in terms of range for this caliber, say for a 50/50cm target?

    • @THLR

      Philippe FRATER Extremely situation dependant. The 6mm will fly as good as anything with the right bullet.

I think only a true match chamber could improve their performance and perhaps different barrel.. my electro-polished Lothar Walther on my SAKO action is much better than I... keep up the good posts and have lots of fun doing so.

  • @pialiamail

    Hey! Quick question - how do you find the .338 LM recoil with the can you use compared to a top notch break? Do you find that the suppressor deals mainly with sound and leaves recoil mostly unchained, or are the good cans able to compete with top muzzle breaks on magnum calibers? Thanks!

    • @THLR
      @THLR  7 лет назад

      A silencer is definitively comparable to a brake in terms of recoil reduction and you don't have the invasive soundpressure. Even with eardefenders, a brake slams the noise straight through the skullbone and into the ears leaving me "boiled" after a days shooting. Using a brake is simply not an option for me, I value my hearing too much.

  • @hammerdoodle1

    Hi Thomas, I was wondering why you would zero this rifle at 960m?
    Also.. I really enjoy your video blog! very inspiring!!

    • @THLR
      @THLR  8 лет назад +1

      +Flying Anvil It was perhaps a clumsy formulation from me. In this film I had already sorted my ballistics and the rifle needed to be zeroed again. Knowing exactly what click setting 960m required (let's say X clicks), I zeroed the rifle and set the turret to X clicks. Normally I zero my rifles at about 100 meters (112-118m on my shooting range, because that's where the backstop is. Exact zero range isn't important, knowing the exact zero range is).
