This presentation is probably the most frightening and complete realistic analysis deconstructing the reasoning behind Putin's thinking I have heard to date.
Putin's logic is pretty basic, he doesn't want Perishing missiles 4 minutes flight time from Moscow in Ukraine. Think Cuban missile crisis in reverse....Pooty isn't giving up!

@@StompingRabbits Baloney! What about the Iskanders in Kalinigrad? There are no nuclear-tipped US missiles in the former Soviet bloc countries, yet Russia has this dagger aimed at the heart of Europe.
@@StompingRabbits what's stopping NATO putting missiles in Lithuania if they want to hit Moscow (there is only 100km difference) which is nothing at mark 2.5. Or in Estonia or Latvia. The Nuclear threat propaganda is just pure putin fiction.
I loved his facetious comment that Russia "needs more territory." They are already the largest country in the world in terms of land mass and most of it is undeveloped and unused. We in the West need to say this more.
Most of it is underdeveloped and unused because it isn't hospitable to human life. But that's no excuse to try and annex someone else's country. They have more than enough land for their disappearing population.
@@StompingRabbits Let them move, then. And let's go ask the grocery store clerks snatched off the street at gunpoint, and sent to the front in tennis shoes, armed with a WW2 bolt-action, how in love they are with Russian governance. And while we're at it, how does Russia treat seperatists who no longer want Kremlin rule? What did Russia do to the Chechens? Why was that okay, but this not?
Many won't take seriously the main point made by Dr. Felshtynski. I don't want to do it either. Problem is he was warning about upcoming, aggressive Russian conquest for at least 15 years now.
Doesn't mean he was wrong haha, it's finally happening. It's same as people warning China was quickly building an army 20 years ago, now just wait til they flick a switch, and move much more of their massive manufacturing might from goods (junk) to armaments and become the 'god of armaments' (more than both US and USSR)
What a great and truthful analysis. While everyone else is trying to dance around the inevitable, this guys tells it like it is. I know its a hard thing to hear but facts are facts!
The very best and most accurate analysis has been by The Duran (RUclips, Rumble.) Alex Christoforou and Alexander Mercouris accurately predicted the trajectory of this military operation back in March, as well as the utter failure the US/EU sanctions would be. They provide the most intelligent, informed, and thoughtful geopolitical discussion of current events with incredible historical context.

We can now try to prevent WWIII.

I also lived there for 4 years. Moscow and Peter and nice, the rest is far less developed than Balkans after 2 wars and zero natural resources. How Russia still exists is a paradox for me. Poor, uneducated, underdeveloped, 3rd world healthcare, hundreds of Ferrari's in Moscow but 20% of population has no indoor plumbing..
Russia, no natural resources? Simply not the case, natural gas and oil in abundance along with gold, platinum, rare Earth minerals, lumber, fertilizer, food, steel, tin... Russia has a load of natural resource....
It it obvious that Russia has a lot of natural resources. Well known. That was not an important point of interview. It dealt with that power balance in Russia. I suggest to read Billingtons axes and. Icon as a reference to 1000 year of Russian government and reference to interview
By comparison, what's happening now is obvious - Russia has being signalling this development for 25 years. Everything we need to know about it is just 'hiding in plain sight'.
Everyone in the West thought WW1 was the war the end all wars. They couldn’t believe the war had already started until it was too late. Same here… we remember WW1 starting in the 30s. The scary thing is though that the rise in globalization & nukes raises a much bigger threat to humanity than ever before.
Excellent guest. Everybody in the Central and Eastern Europe with brains understand this. The naivete in the countries west of us of is just staggering. We had our experience with Soviet occupation, never again, never. The reporter is horrible. Parroting Russian propaganda. Really poor journalism.
I agree about the naivete of much of western Europe, and I would say much of the US, especially the right. They are cynical, or compare this war to Iraq, blame it on Biden, or simply repeat Russian propaganda. There is some of this on the left as well. I recall hearing French intellectual Bernard Henri Levy say more or less that Macron did not understand Putin or know anything about him. I wonder how widely his observation applies. I find it breathtaking.
@Diossvk. I agree with the general naivete, it's predictably wishy washy, and absolutely terrifying at this point in Kremlin progress. There's no time for wishy washy anymore. But, I offer a different view of the reporters' questioning, because I was put off at first too, but I think the intent was to make the interview as 'propaganda proof' as possible by asking clarification in the very areas that propagandists will try to attack Yuri's analysis. I've been reading the typical trolling comments, and it's obvious they've not had the 'hooks' needed to really bring out their standard reaction seeking points.

Mr. Presenter: Ukraine was an independent country even before 1991. It was a free state in 1918, until the Communist Bolsheviks invaded. In addition, Ukraine was struggling for its freedom for hundreds of years prior.
As the first all the countries started from the Kievan Rus. The city Kiev was the beginning of Ukraine, Russian and other nations. Then hundreds of years later, Russia came into being as a breakaway territory from Kievan Rus.
Ukraine was truly terrible. Literally one of the most corrupt countries in the world and just as shady, authoritarian and unpleasant to live in as Russia. It even had nuclear weapons of its own until 2001. There were early signs of improvement in recent years, but that's surely on ice now.

A third world war? With Russia? Is there some other, more professional, competently led, modernly equipped Russian army we don't know about? One that isn't tied to railroads for logistics? Or a daily diminishing number of military trucks to carry those supplies from the railheads to the units at the front? Because this current Russian army is struggling to supply its troops mere dozens of miles from its own territory. And it is clear to anyone that the old WW2 and Cold War era model of deep armored thrusts and encirclement battles is over. The Donbas operation was clearly meant to be a pincer movement to entrap and destroy a large part of Ukraine's best units. Instead, Russia gives the impression of an exhausted marathon runner just barely able to heave itself over the finish line.
your right, but if china and iran decide to jump in, we gotta fight them on multiple fronts, also we can"'t win a war against Russia cause they are one of the rare countrys who will actually use nukes if it doesnt go their way
About a Russian army that is so lazy and inept that rely only on artillery to obliterate to dust a city and later to claim that they have taken it over. Russian is the biggest joke ever. Thanks to putin we know how worthless the Russian army is😂🤑

Putin cannot use tactical nukes in Ukraine without the fallout polluting Russia! It's just not possible given the fact the prevailing winds blow from West to East in Europe. If Putin uses any nuclear weapon the fallout lands in Russia, China, Korea & Japan...... Not going to happen unless it's WW3.
Fascism was resurrected at euromaidan coup in 2014. Since then Ukraine wanted to become culturally and ethnically pure. 800.000 people from eastern Ukraine in 2014 fled to Russia, look up even BBC reported that.
Indeed, Putin and his banda are fascists in all respects except by name. They’ve changed the constitution to lead in perpetuity all while poisoning/murdering political opponents and dissenters. They imprison people for expressing their opinions and only allow for state-media. Added to that, they’ve doubled down on the propaganda apparatus, creating a tremendous nationalistic fervor. Putin even has “Putinjugends” going on - NASHI ironically being the name of one of these youth groups.
we are not in 1937. Germany was actually a competent country with competent industry and competent army. Russia is a rotten empire in terminal stages of its decline and collapse, it has inferior technology, inferior army, inferior economy.
Russia have gaz, oil, gold, rare material, hypersonic missiles and everything everybodies need to have their economy working correctly. Western world only have debts and fake money...that's why we need to make wars, to force these supplier countries to accept our fake money in exange of their rare materials.
@@daliborbobr6331 yeah, I saw German authorities already warned their citizens, they ask them not to take too many showers, and if possible to take these with cold water to save energy. This is what we call a modern economy I guess. It's gonna be funny
I love it when historians confuse their knowledge with an ability to predict the future. This is different in so many ways to 1939; not least because both sides, Russia and the West have roughly equivalent nuclear arsenals. The reality is that Putin has been probing and testing the attitude of the West over the past 20 years, and saw that there was an opportunity for Russia to assert itself again, thinking that Nato has lost its power (see the Trump-induced ruckus inside Nato as one example). BUT, Nato hasn't simply stood for this - (after all, we have adopted the role of the USSR in Vietnam, and more) - and if this historian thinks Putin hasn't been told DIRECTLY that any step onto Nato territory would result in war, and therefore nuclear war, he is surely mistaken. I agree that Russia has been moving towards a pure fascist state, though.
It's very early days to draw that conclusion. Wait for the Autumn / Winter when Russia have Germany over a barrel. If Germany buckles then Eastern Europe is lost.
The world is headed towards an economic depression which will be one thing held in common with WW2. They will be and have already been, warring over monetary supremacy.

The irony. We're preventing several regions from breaking away from Ukraine, and aiding Taiwan from breaking away from China. Guess what really matters is not the wishes of the inhabitants, but that it frustrates our adversaries.
They're just not good enough or large enough, simple as that. The more they occupy the more overstretched they get. They'd get blown away facing a modern military.
Very sadly, I've been saying very similar things about Putin, for approx 15 or so years. The man is a genius (borderline madman) - this is very dangerous set of personality traits. If I'm correct, Hitler too had these traits. For far too many years, the West and America placated Putin. If he thinks he's invincible, it's because we allowed it. The mothers of the "motherland" must stand up.
A former KGB agent, that organization along with the Soviet Union are defunct and have been for decades. Contemporary Russia is not communist moreover it's a Christian nation. These brother wars need to stop! Peace with Russia is ultimately in better interests of the West. Tis pitiful some won't let it happen.
Putin is winning, the sanctions have boomeranged . large swaths of Europe will have no Russian natural gas or cheap oil that their economies are predicated upon. Pooty has gas, oil, gold, rare earth metals, lumber, fertilizer... We have fiat currency..... Pooty is winning....
There are a lot of references he could have called on to illustrate the ideological underpinnings for his concerns - concerns that are perfectly warranted. I also felt he struggled to construct a plausible mechanism for engineering a show-down with NATO, and he didn't seem to have any thoughts about how Russia could realistically plot a course to a win beyond just threatening nuclear war. So I'd call it all a bit short on imagination. Personally, I believe that Putin does have a goal here and a viable path to achieving it. I also strongly suspect that the clever people at NATO have an idea of what's necessary to counter, along with being cognizant of what an immensely difficult challenge it will be. Has WW3 actually begun? That depends entirely on Putin - events to date say both no and yes, and Putin's Brain is the final arbiter of which answer is the reality we are now living.
“Has WW3 actually begun.” I would more say it depends on how the West reacts to Russia’s 🇷🇺 military operation, especially in how it now being described as a war of attrition and the negative consequences it is having on Western governments and society.
@@josb6141 It's also a bit of an unique Historic moment for Russia. She has a window of opportunity that has never been hers before and it's a case of 'use it or lose it'. She has a significant strand in her geo-political ideology from over the last 25 years that provides the rationale for hitting the West now (or now-abouts). She has being making what, from without, look like the right sort of developments over the last decade in her military capacity. She has created the right sort of crisis in the right place to set the wheels turning. If this attack on Ukraine is 'for Russia', purely about Ukraine, then how the West behaves in response is significant from an escalation perspective. If it's about more than Ukraine, then what the West does or doesn't do is immaterial - we'll be getting whatever Putin has in mind and we need to be considering the possibility (not the liklihood) of a bona fide existential threat and preparing accordingly. We don't and can't know the true Russian intent, so the magnitude of the worst-case scenario gives the West no choice but to do whatever is necessary, even if those steps appear to antagonize Russia further. in the east of Ukraine, the people speaks russian in the cities. But in the villigies people speaks ukranian. Speak russia do not means to be russian. As irish are not english.
I take issue with the idea that the Russian army is well trained , considering how many of the combat troops are either on contract or conscripts . To compare them to the SS is misguided and in not a very good comparison . Historically Russia has always used 'bluderbuss' tatics and to my mind this has always indicated a lack of training and incompetance. When comparing Russia to the rest of 1st world , they have always seemed to 'run' as second level country , with importing / stealing hi tech equiptment and 'pretending ' to function like Europe / USA/ Canada/ Japan et all in a social society and crucially wanting to be accepted by the world as a real 'Superpower' ...With a population of only 147 million living In a country that is so vast , they have always had an issue with control / management of said country . Russia is not wealthy compared to the EU/ USA and pre invasion was rated as only being 10th richest in the world . To manage / control an invaded country could be far too costly and time consuming . This war is costing Russia $300, 000, 000 per day / every day. They are fast becoming isolated, with only a few countries offering support . I don't think Russia wants to control the world , that could be 'China's' mandate but certainly not Russia. This current situation could be about not being recognised as a comparable 'superpower ' especially with the USA -This is the bully treading carefully within the confines of taking back something that was lost and also something they feel the rest of the world will not physically get involved in . Putler is playing a game of poker with the EU and the rest of the world ...Sometimes viewing a situation from a distance can give a better overview during the process. I am old enough to have lived through the cold war / Cuban missile crisis and subsequent division of Europe . I also lived in West Germany during the 1970's and served as a 'civilian' in the UK armed forces. I had unlimited entry and exit into the East and visited several times . There was always an uneasy calm and an acceptance of the situation . After watching this whole interview and taking all points as being valid and informed - I conclude that DR Felishstinksy has good many ideas and some are very valid but could be somewhat 'entrenched ' and too absorbed in his studies . There are so many 'Experts' right now expressing their own agenda's / view / studies ... and all seem to be very different in outcome !- Best to read as much as is possible about the historical / current situation and then make up your own mind . As a footnote Russia has always been weaker without controlling Ukraine . Ukraine is possibly the most important country of the two and Putler is well aware of this . Bully's need to control , without that contol they are very weak and like the bully at school they are fundementally inadequate and very lonley isolated individuals who are aways seeking some sort of attention because of their lowered self esteem - NB when I left Germany in 1978 I then spent the rest of career working in Psychiatry ( 31) years I'm certainly no expert and am still learning about the conflict of the human psychi. To finalise 'Putler' is in every way a true Psychopath, he ticks all the boxes we should consider this in every communcation . The rules as we percieve them do not apply to him , this could be a fundemental flaw in our understanding of the 'why' and 'what ..! Our inbuilt sence of right and wrong are , not very helpful when discusssing these matters , somehow we have to comprehend the way 'he' functions and base our assessents on that process ( somehow) !- 'Every KIng Must Fall ' historically that has always the case and this war will end -one day ...!

No, that isn't chess. That is common sense. Putin's overarching goal IS to topple the West. The starving of Africa isn't the way he is planning on toppling the West. His use of food is his effort to increase instability in Western Europe. The primary front in his campaign against the West is on social media. Russia has been using social media for YEARS to divide the West. Take the US and the Black Lives Matter protests. Russia would post on social media using "leftist" language to organize a protest at a certain location, say the intersection of 1st and Main. At the same time, Russia posts on social media using Conservative talking points to organize a protest for Blue Lives Matter at the same time and same location as the Black Lives Matter protest they ALSO organized. They then sit back and let us kill each other. Russia was the major driving force of the Brexit Movement. January 6th was the crowning achievement of Russia. Russia DID interfere in the US elections that led to Trump's becoming President. The Democrats in the US then did them the biggest favor ever by fixating on it as the reason Hillary Clinton lost. They impeached Trump claiming he colluded directly with Russia to win. That didn't happen though. Russia interfered because they thought Trump was easily manipulated and they knew Hillary was one of the most unpopular candidates to gain the nomination in history.

The Belarus argument holds little water, since Russia already has Kaliningrad where it has all sorts of missiles based. However, while the nuclear ultimatum is very real, a limited nuclear war is not necessarily Armageddon. Putin's bluff must be called, and if necessary, a limited nuclear war fought, particularly when the prevailing winds are usually blowing toward the East. NATO's strategy always was that any attack from the Soviet Union would be met with a nuclear rebuff, allowing NATO to spend much less on conventional forces than the Soviet Union. This may no longer be the case, but is the West now decidedly superior than Russia in conventional warfare, especially in the long run?
How does 2 nuclear armed nations, fight a limited nuclear war if one is losing? I keep hearing that and it makes no sense, I guess ppl haven't thought it all the way through
@@yvesdi Yves and Sea: I live 200 km from the Ukrainian and Belarussian borders, 250 km or so from Kaliningrad. A comprehensive defeat of Russia is needed to keep the world safe, just as Germany and Japan were defeated, and re-educated by the US after WWII. The pathologies infecting Russia and China will bring about their fall and breakup, making the 21st century the true Euro-American Century. America has its own serious pathologies, but unlike its adversaries, it has the structure allowing it to cure itself... maybe.
Would Putin advise the Russian population of a Nuclear weapon launch so that their citizens could prepare for a retaliatory Nuclear strike from the west? Would it be advantageous to publicly ask that question in order to test Russian civilian support? No answer from Putin would potentially translate to a "NO". The question of Russian citizen support was not discussed and particularly regards invasions beyond Ukraine. I think there is a good reason why Putin has not called for mass mobilisation. Most of what was discussed was based on history in particular Russian and Hitler, times have changed. The interviewer should have asked Dr Yuri Felshtinsky questions based on contemporary positions and assumptions. Cracks are appearing in both Russian support for this war and in ground force competence so far. Those of fighting age are the cause of the biggest cracks. These 2 issues alone introduce significant weaknesses in the grand plan, not to mention increasing financial pressures and the opposition forces economic and military power. I am sure Russians may shoot above their pay grade but I am sure they would consider now, as an inappropriate time for stupidity. To go from Georgia/Ukraine as opposition to NATO is a leap into the abyss. It is my impression the West is issuing weapons to Ukraine commiserate with Russia depleting its weapons stocks.
Russia is number 2 arms supplier to the world. The west donated 250k artillery rounds to Ukraine. Russia uses between 500k-600k artillery shells daily. Much os western media spouts propaganda for western public consumption.

I do think the slow supply is intentional that is 1.Not is upset Putin so US/NATO don't get dragged in and 2.Attempt to exhaust Putins weapons cache, at the expense of Ukrainians, as sanctions and declining Russian revenues for energy progressively bite. I think the West aims at Cold War 2.0 to slow Russian aggression for a similar period as 1.0. The west has been training Ukrainian servicemen for say 8 years at great expense, and assume would have taken stock of their armaments. I would believe they would have known the shortfall in weapons Ukraine would need to beat Russia way before the war started.

Poor, uneducated, underdeveloped, 3rd world healthcare, hundreds of Ferrari's in Moscow but 20% of population has no indoor plumbing..

I agree about the naivete of much of western Europe, and I would say much of the US, especially the right. They are cynical, or compare this war to Iraq, blame it on Biden, or simply repeat Russian propaganda. There is some of this on the left as well. There's no time for wishy washy anymore.
But, I offer a different view of the reporters' questioning, because I was put off at first too, but I think the intent was to make the interview as 'propaganda proof' as possible by asking clarification in the very areas that propagandists will try to attack Yuri's analysis.

I agree.

Literally seeing in the news today that Russia has outfitted Belarusian planes to carry nuclear weapons :(
They are invisible planes. They can't be shot down.
The irony. We're preventing several regions from breaking away from Ukraine, and aiding Taiwan from breaking away from China. Guess what really matters is not the wishes of the inhabitants, but that it frustrates our adversaries.
I fail to see how Russia could even dream of occupying deep into Europe, given that it's population is only around 144 million.

An American saying that foreign governments are monsters 🤡
Thanks for ypur completely unfounded phsycological analysis on a KGB agent galaxybrain.

Yes, Putin is a judoka, taking split decisions at the spur of the moment to gain advantage. Putin is not a chess player, a long term strategist.
Then why did the sanctions backfired and is hurting Europe instead, and Putin have them paying for gas in rubles?
@@gingerfox7143 They haven't back fired at all lol.
@@richay1 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAH
The sanctions backfired because Putin has large gas and oil reserves and Western Europe doesn't.
China, Iran, Syria, Russia Vs The West
We are, 100%, in a very dark place. It's a Catch-22..
Wait until Winter time and 1\3rd of Western Europe is without heat. I'm thinking Germany will be the first to jump ship and crawl back to Russia for gas and oil.

@ 30:25 .....It is Ukraine vs Russia. No one may replace Ukraine in settling the centuries old conflict.
If Putin's overarching goal is to topple the West by starving Africa thereby creating a mass migration crisis, then he really is playing chess.

NATO East MORE NATO East . Russia said NO , Not Putin . Russia told the west no more .
RuSSia has no vote in their neighbours

What a great interview.I think it's true,but same it's very scaring.
Polish-soviet war, the objetivd of marxism was always to enslave the world, pure evil
Russia is number 2 arms supplier to the world. The west donated 250k artillery rounds to Ukraine. Russia uses between 500k-600k artillery shells daily. Much os western media spouts propaganda for western public consumption.
Unfortunately, the supply of materiel from the West is not commensurate with what Ukraine needs to defeat Russia.
It will be,
@@awuma Thanks for picking me up on commensurate.
